Clean, decent size, easy walk into town.
Zara the owner lives above and is very nice and helpful, but does not intrude in any way. Decent touch was wine, baguette and butter in fridge when we arrived. Bed is a pull-out sofa bed, very comfortable. It was particularly hot the week we stayed, so the absence of air conditioning made sleeping more difficult. On reflection we should have accepted the offer of a portable (though not quiet) air conditioning unit, to use in the evening, then turn off when we went to bed. The area where the studio appt is, is very quiet, so no disturbance from vehicle noise. Decent accommodation for two, at a decent price. Brief and easy walk into town. Thank you Zara!
Thank you Adrian for your kind comments, look forward to seeing you here again, let's hope it's not in the midst of a heatwave next time.
Time Flies When You're Having Fun
Spent a wonderful month here. The studio was lovely - tastefully decorated, had everything I needed and the pull out couch was very comfortable for sleeping. I spent many mornings on the terrace with my tea. The street is quiet and an easy walk into town. The owner is friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this studio for a place to stay in Port Vendres.
Thank you Karen. Hope to see you again.
Great location, great value, highly recommended
The apartment was equipped with everything you could need down to the most thoughtful details. Even milk in the fridge on arrival and fresh flowers on the table.
The bed was comfy, the shower actually worked properly and it was lots of fun to watch the comings and goings in the busy port below. We had a wonderful week.
Très agréable séjour.
Studio propre et accueillant. Terrasse très agréable. Quartier calme.
The apartment is situated just a few paces from the Fanal lighthouse at the entrance to the port.
Port Vendres is the only natural port along the Côte Vermeille. Known since the 6th century BC by the Greeks as Port Veneris, Port Vendres is rich in maritime history. Now it is not only a deep-water commercial port, with regular cargoes from North Africa, but also a fishing harbour and yachting marina working all year round.
With its pebbled and sandy beaches and creeks, it offers every seaside leisure activity. (scuba diving, canoeing, deep sea fishing, boating etc). The bay of Paulilles (at 3km in the direction of Banyuls) consists of three beaches and the exotic gardens and museum of the dynamite factory created by Nobel in the19th Century. The Côte Vermeille is the first and only exclusively maritime natural reserve of France; it covers 650 hectares of sea and stretches out along 6 km of coast. A divers and snorkellers paradise...
Set on the magnificent rocky slopes overlooking Port-Vendres are the prestigious vineyards of Banyuls, and Collioure ideal for walkers or mountain bikers.
Collioure, 2 km down the road, is famous for the numerous artists that made it their home, Matisse and Derain founders of the favourite movement, Picasso, Dufy, and Chagall, a charmingly picturesque village it is a must on any visit to the region as is Ceret another artists village in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
At less than 2 hours by car, you can also visit many major tourist sites: the “Cathar castles”, Carcassonne, Cadaquès or the Dali museum in Figueras (Spain), and even Barcelona is just over 2hrs drive. You can also take the yellow train, a 63km journey with staggering views in the heart of the Pyrenees to the highest French railway station.
And if all this sounds a bit exhausting just relax and enjoy the food and wine in Port Vendres numerous quayside restaurants, or buy your fish straight off the boat or at the fish market and ‘faites vous plaisir’
