About Hester Ross

Owner Hester Ross has built the new lodges on the family hill farm at Coillabus which is still farmed by her father Alistair.

Why Hester Ross chose Isle of Islay

Our family have farmed Coillabus for generations and the Lodges are part of this continuing legacy.

What makes this cottage unique

Coillabus on the Oa Peninsula offers guests a quite extraordinary experience. Rugged, romantic and remote - this is a place where you will connect with the land, the wildlife, friends and family and your own self.

The lodges are open all year round including the winter months. Say goodbye to the drafty holiday let experience and enjoy watching everchanging views from the wide galleried windows - while staying cosy in your warm and stylish island getaway.

Coillabus Lodges enjoy their own secluded spot on the romantic Oa Peninsula with long views over heather and sea to Glenastle Lochs, Kintyre, Ireland and other areas of Islay. Our guests can enjoy excellent low level walks and fly fishing on the nearby lochs. Coillabus borders an RSPB nature reserve and has its own resident Golden Eagles and rare chough. Red deer often visit. Islay's iconic East Coast single malt distilleries - Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg are within a 10-15 minute drive and offer tours and visitor centres. The other distilleries including Bowmore, Bruichladdich Kilchoman and Caolila are between 20 minutes and an hour away. Guests can enjoy visits to our renowned Islay Woollen Mill famous for making the tweed for films such as Braveheart. Islay boasts miles and miles of wonderful unspoilt sandy beaches.
