After retiring from business in the D.C. area, I wanted a small business that allowed me to spend time doing what I love to do most, Fish! My wife, Suzanne, and I have eight grown children, and seven grandchildren, and with this property, I have room for them to visit!
Robert Evans purchased this cabin in 2004
There is no prettier place than the Savage River, all of the seasons offer their own special brand of beauty. The fishing is so good, I have only to walk out the back door to find it!
Fishing is number one, but there are hiking trails in the adjoining Savage River Forest, kayaking on the river during special releases, but most of the time, the Savage River Lake is calm and easy for any level of boater (non-motorized only). Biking on the Savage River Road is very popular with those who enjoy hill-climbing, not for the feint of heart!
Three of us spent 4 days in Brownie Cottage. We used this as a base camp for deer hunting. The cabin is very nice and the setting against the river is extremely peaceful. The terrain is very steep though and makes for hard hunting next to the cabin. If you dont care that the hunting isn't great and want the solitude of a deep woods experience then its great. It would probably be great for a hiking base camp as you can hike on the old logging trails for many many miles. Definitely a great spot to fish! Very low key, we had a great experience even though no one got a deer.
Brownie Cottage was a quiet, secluded, peaceful and beautiful place with soothing sounds of the rushing river right outside. Just what we needed and wanted!
What a wonderful spot! Beautiful cabin by the river with lots of trails and interesting places to explore nearby. We love relaxing on the big back porch and exploring the cold clear pools of the river. The Fly Fishing Shop and Charlie the expert guide make it even more special.
Upon check in everything we exactly how we saw it in the pictures. The cottage was fantastic, it was equipped with everything we needed. The river was breathtaking, we kept the windows open every night and fell asleep to the sound of the river. Cannot wait to go back next year!!!
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. The sound of the river in our backyard was great. The firewood was on the deck waiting for us and we thoroughly enjoyed using the fire pit.
We rarely go to the same vacation house twice but I plan to return to stay at Brownie Cottage again.
Perfect location for fly fishing. Lots of great river access. River is full of fish but they are smarter than most humans. House is very nice and comfortable. Great deck and yard with fire pit. Charlie at fly shop is great.
