Jen and Iain purchased the cottage in 2008 as a peaceful and tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of London life. They both grew up in Devon and are very fond of the South Hams. Whilst Iain spent his childhood in Mid Devon, hiking on Dartmoor and becoming well acquainted with local watering holes, Jen spent many a weekend in her teenage years and early twenties surfing on the coast with friends and Charlie, the chocolate Lab. However, with careers in law and business management respectively, they do not have the time to stay at Pearl River Cottage as often as they would like, which is why they make every effort to welcome you in the hope that you derive the same amount of pleasure from your stay as they do.

Pearl River Cottage is a very cosy cottage. It originally belonged to the church in the village before becoming a privately owned property. It is located in a quiet setting yet is only minutes into Kingsbridge with access to all the local amenities, as well as a short drive to the South West coast and coastal path, which links to all the fantastic beaches in the surrounding area.
This area has many fond memories for the owners and given its location and affordability makes it an ideal holiday for couples and families or simply for those who just wants to get away from it all.
Pearl River Cottage was like a home from home., everything we needed was there and more. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped for a relaxing holiday, It is situated in quiet spot, and close to all amenities. The welcome pack was very welcome, and it was lovely to return there after a day out and light the log fire and curl up with a glass of wine. We did eat out a few nights, but I couldn't pinpoint any restaurant having wow factor, lovely area to visit however and if we visit the area again I wouldn't hesitate to book Pearl River cottage.
The property was smaller than I thought, but was manageable for us. Didn't realise pets were allowed, if I knew that I wouldn't have booked, but that was my mistake. It was clean enough, but places like on top of bed frame were dusty. Our bed was very comfy, but the kids bunk bed was terrible. There was springs poking out everywhere, even my 2 year old said it was uncomfortable. And every time my daughter moved on top bunk it squeaked loud. Maybe time to replace. There was a lovely welcome basket when we arrived which I thought was really nice. Other than the things mentioned it was a really lovely stay. And a very cosy cottage! If it wasn't for pets,I would've definitely returned.
Overal the property was nice. We didn't realise the owners allowed pets although I see it does say, I don't think we would have booked as the downstairs did smell a little of dogs? Overall the property was clean in the areas used but finer points of dusting books on stairs lights and ceiling had been missed and by the looks of it for sometime. Hoovering wasn't good. The description of the property I feel needs updating I wouldn't say it's accurate to now? For example the bathroom being recently decorated?
We did have a lovely stay though and although I have made the above points when staying in a holiday house your not there much and it was perfectly fine for our stay. Thank you for the cake very yummy.
Pearl River Cottge is a delight to stay in,and we must say very well equipped. If we have to make one comment it is a little more information on the centrel heating. A little hot at night.
We enjoyed a lovely short break in this cosy, well-equipped cottage. Fantastically located for exploring the local area including the beautiful towns of Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth. Also enjoyed taking the children to 'Woodlands' - adventure park ( nr Dartmouth) and also to The Ring O Bells (village pub) for dinner and a game of pool!
