About Clare Dudley

Originally from Portsmouth, Clare moved to the Cotswolds some 25 years ago. Clare spent over 15 years in the world of luxury hotels which stood her in good stead for running a 5 star holiday cottage. She has high standards and it shows!

Clare Dudley purchased this cottage in 1990

Why Clare Dudley chose West Oxfordshire

High Ridge has been our family home for over 20 years. My two son's grew up here enjoying the uniquely friendly village that is Milton-Under-Wychwood. Two years ago we moved to a house in the next village & completely renovated High Ridge. I feel that the Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful places in the UK & wanted to offer a beautiful house for guests to come and enjoy the area.

What makes this cottage unique

I fell in love with the Wychwoods when driving through on my way to work. A friend told me that High Ridge was for sale but it was in a very sorry state with ivy climbing through the windows and water pouring through the roof.

But the house had a wonderful feel and when we moved in and lit the fire it came alive and felt like a real home! The low beams and cotswold stone walls create a very cosy feel. More recently we replaced the old extension and I dare you not to say WOW when you see the the new spacious luxury kitchen/dining area opening out into the garden! It's the kitchen I always dreamt of with an island and breakfast bar and bi-fold doors opening into the pretty garden!

Beautiful cottage in great location

  • 5 of 5

High Ridge was an excellent stay for our group of 7 (5 adults, 2 children with age range of 2 to 90!). A beautifully renovated historic cottage - our children were fascinated by the exposed beams and steep staircases - providing very comfortable accommodation of 3 generous bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 3 living areas and large modern kitchen/meals area opening onto patio and garden. All as advertised and pictured on your site. The house was very clean and well-maintained. It felt more like living in the owner's own house rather than a rental let. The owner left detailed information - copious notes on all appliances, as well as detailed recommendations for the local area which proved very useful. Swinbrook (lunch at The Swan is a must!), Blenheim Palace, Burford, Bibury, Hidcote Garden, etc. Milton-under-Wychwood, though not quite as picturesque as some Cotswold villages, is pretty and very central, with a great children's playground 5 minutes walk away and a fantastic Co-op that had everything! We had an excellent stay of 5 nights and would not hesitate to recommend High Ridge to friends or family.

Fantastic house, great stay.

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean, tidy and very well organised. The owner left a 'welcome book' with information about the house and surrounding area, which was very helpful. Everything in the house was easy to find and operate, and the information provided in the info pack would solve any issues. The rooms were very luxurious and far beyond what we were expecting. The living room had a lovely cosy atmosphere, and we enjoyed playing the board games provided in the house.

The surrounding area is lovely and Burford and Bibury are not too far away so countryside days out are easy to do. We went to eat at The Lamb in Shipton (next door village) which was also good, and would recommend as a pub to go to for a filling meal.

Overall, a great stay, don't have anything negative to say.

Christmas in the Cotswolds

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time in our house in the Cotswolds. We brought the American side and the English side of my daughters new family together for Christmas. The kitchen was so large and inviting we all sat around the table chatting and bonding. Played games and more chatting in the living room with a fire in the fireplace.

It was very comfortable and the small things like fresh soap in the bathrooms and kitchen made it easy to settle in for our short stay. Easy walk to the co-op for groceries and a short drive to lots of charming villages and a great walk in the countryside. Can't wait for our next opportunity to return.

It has been a great week in The Cotwolds

  • 4 of 5

Last october we've been with our family, my wife, our two daughters and husband, our son and grandson to the Cotswolds. Main purpuse was to visit an old WWII veteran, aged 97, who lives in Higham Ferrars. We haven had a wonderful week, in a great cottage, with everything we needed, and more... We've been to several places like the Cotswold Wildlife Park, to Burford, to Oxford, to Bourton and of course to Spike, the WWII veteran. Thanks to the beautiful weather we've had a wonderful week. Thanks!! Hans Romeyn, Holland

Beautiful cottage where old meets new

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time in the cottage and weren't lucky with the weather so it was great to be able to enjoy the indoors with an open fire and such a large kitchen dining room for family meals. A beautiful place to stay.

High Ridge is located in the unspoilt and thriving village of Milton-under-Wychwood. The village is one of the best served in the Cotswolds with a small Co-op, delicatessen, post office, library and dentist. The large village green is an excellent area to play ball games, fly a kite or play in the children’s playground. All weather tennis courts also available.

The village pub, The Lamb Inn is less than 2 miles away and is a lovely walk across the fields. With a delightful patio for enjoying a summer's evening dinner al fresco or a roaring log fire for winter evenings. That's if you want to leave the cosy lounge at High Ridge with its own roaring log fire!

Burford, The gateway to the Cotswolds, is set on a hill just 5 minutes by car. A stunning village, it's High Street sloping from the high Wolds, where you have beautiful views over the open countryside, down to the willow fringed River Windrush in the pretty Windrush valley. A fine three arched medieval bridge crosses the river at the foot of the hill. A perfect place for afternoon tea and a spot of shopping.

TV's Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park is a favourite with our younger guests as is The Cotswold Wildlife Park & its ariel walkway to get eye to eye with the giraffes.

Walking is one of the most popular activities in this area. High Ridge has maps of popular walk available to guests.

The popular Golf courses of Burford or Lyneham are also just 5 minutes away. Lyneham welcomes non-members.
