Joy's studio space

  • 5 of 5

Joy's place is lovely, both in its spaciousness and sense of peace. The host thought of everything to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. We especially enjoyed watching (and feeding) the birds outside the windows. And there was a beautiful trail to hike in nearby Seal Cove.

Quiet and Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

You will not be disappointed. Lots of light and cozy. Clean with all the kitchen supplies to make it a home away from home. Minutes from plenty of hiking trails. Having access to art makes this the perfect retreat.

Uniquely beautiful, comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

My wife, Joann, and I stayed in Joy's fantastic studio. It was a special treat to be in such a unique space. This was a special treat for Joann since she is a pastel artist and this was her first time in Maine. We literally wanted for nothing. Joy made the garage available for us which helped us avoid the rain on a couple of days. The Kitchen has every thing one needs. The art section of the studio is a wonderful carefree work space. The bed was comfortable and the light during the day is a real treat. Every morning we spent time watching the birds at the 3 feeders suspended from the front porch railing while enjoying breakfast. It was a bit chilly while we were there, but the studio apartment was perfectly warm and comfortable. The location is also fantastic for sightseeing along the mid-coast and beyond if you desire. We easily visited a number of the towns along the coast and enjoyed daily lunch in a different place and restaurant each day of our stay. There is plenty of shops nearby for books, food, baked goods, seafood, etc. You will want for nothing! We very much enjoyed our autumn outing and I would recommend Joy's studio for a wonderful get away any time of the year. We hope to be back soon!

Fabulous space in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Joy's studio was perfect for our short Maine vacation. Next time, we hope to stay for a week, at least! When we arrived and walked up the stairs to the studio, my daughter exclaimed, "Wow! Can I live here?!" The space is bright and open with a high ceiling. It is literally an art studio/studio apartment with everything in one large room, but so cleverly arranged that as you move from cooking to eating to lounging to sleeping, it feels like several rooms. The studio is fully equipped with all those things that I often wish other places had thought to provide. We loved watching the birds coming to the feeders on the balcony. The grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed the fresh cut flowers from Joy's garden. The location is quiet enough to be a "get-away", but Damariscotta, South Bristol, Christmas Cove, and Boothbay Harbor are easy to get to. The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a must-do trip. Joy was a gracious host and very accommodating. She has lots of information available and suggestions about area attractions, if you need them. The arrangements for our rental, arrival, and departure were smooth and easy. We look forward to returning next year!

It doesn't get any better

  • 5 of 5

We stayed two weeks at Joy's Artist Studio, and it was perfect! A great location that's isolated enough for complete privacy, yet close to shopping, dining, and local attractions. We have never stayed in a place that was as light, bright, clean, and well-equipped.

It proved the perfect place from which to launch interesting day trips on mid-coastal Maine. Speaking of launching, paddling one of her kayaks in the river is a must-do, and she's happy to help you out with that. It's just a few short steps down to the water. Seals abound in this area of the river, and it's a real treat to sit and watch them at Very close range.

Joy's a wonderful hostess, and we couldn't recommend her studio apartment more highly.
