There is a boulangerie for your morning croissants and baguettes, with a lovely little deli next door just a short 3 minute stroll away from the house.

You can visit the colorful Farmers Market and food hall, or indulge in French Cafe Culture and watch the world pass by. Sarlat has many free attractions throughout the year around including a Christmas market and outdoor ice rink for the festive period, art exhibitions and during the summer months especially, there are constant evening street performers, open air theatre, music festiva, fireworks, acrobats, musicians, clowns providing nightly shows for your entertainment. After a day spent messing about on the river, visiting caves or chateaux, why not sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and watch the locals play Petanque, or even have a go yourself, there are a set of Boules in the house for your use.
There really is something for everyone here in Sarlat, right on your doorstep............
We visited the Dordogne originally around 20 years ago, coming back year after year with our children and fell in love with the area, especially Sarlat and all it has to offer. We finally moved here permanently three years ago and are therefore your first point of contact if you need help or advice. You will be able to draw on our vast local knowledge, which has been acquired over many years, to make the most of your stay in this wonderful area.
Pippa purchased this house in 2013
Stunning period property with may original features, private pool, mature private garden and Sarlat on foot......... what more could you ask for.
This is a wonderful turn of the century period stone town house with good size mature private garden set within an easy 5 minute stroll of Sarlat. La Maison Breuil is situated in a fantastic, residential central location. With only a 3 minute walk to the wonderful boulangeries for your morning croissants and freshly baked baguettes. CENTRAL SARLAT, 3 Bed, Pool, Parking, Free WIFI
We stayed in 'La Maison Breuil' for a week at the end of July. We had never been to the region before and the location of the house gave us the perfect combination of quiet accommodation but with the option to walk into nearby Sarlat for dinner when we wanted. The house itself is gorgeous, the renovations that have gone into the property have been carefully thought through resulting in a property that has kept it's character but that still manages to include everything you need for modern life (dishwasher/washing machine, tv/dvd and of course wifi which it seems impossible to live without now!). We all really loved our stay here the rooms were all beautifully clean with freshly laundered, comfortable cotton sheets and we all slept very well. The large, sheltered, outside table meant that we were able to eat every meal outside and the kitchen was perfectly equipped. We also had a couple of barbecues. The layout of the outside area is also well done - the garden slopes up to the pool which is surrounded by decking which is lovely for lounging around in the sun. We all had a fabulous time splashing around in the pool. The table on the front terrace is also perfect to sit at on warm summer's evening looking out onto the petanque court. The owner is lovely and very pleasant to deal with - which I know should be a given but oftentimes it is not! For example within the house manual doesn't just provide basic info on how to make sure you don't break anything it also contains information on the local area, where to find doctors, pharmacies etc, restaurant recommendation which shows that they are keen to go the extra mile to ensure their guests enjoy their stay and feel welcome. We would all recommend Maison Breuil, in fact we are thinking of going back ourselves! The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area and having Sarlat on the doorstep is great when you cannot be bothered cooking but also do not want to drive for miles. We felt like we were in a home from home for the week, where we could truly relax, and that for me was the best thing about our stay.
My family of 4 with two children under 10 stayed here for a one-week trip in and around Sarlat. It was was a wonderful place to stay and we looked forward to returning every evening after spending the days out and about. We were here in November so didn't use any of the outdoor amenities, but the inside was warm, welcoming, clean and comfortable. Communication with the owner, Pippa, was always pleasant and timely. A bottle of wine was provided as a welcome which was a nice touch. Pippa also provides a binder full of useful information on the house itself - everything you need to know for your stay, as well as useful information about the town such as restaurants, grocery stores, etc. and also nearby sites. The home is very convenient to the central area of Sarlat. The old winding stone streets and historic buildings as well as restaurants, bakeries, shops, etc. are less than 10 minutes away. I strongly recommend this home and would certainly stay here again should I be lucky enough to return to this wonderful region of France.
La Maison Breuil is everything the photos reveal and more. All the excellent reviews are spot on and justified, so you can be assured that what you see is what you get. We had 4 adults, a 6 month old baby and stayed for 2 weeks in early May, thoroughly enjoying life in the house and nearby in Sarlat plus the Dordogne region. The house is ideally located in Sarlat, being a short walking distance to a good boulangerie, delicatessen and the medieval town centre, plus short drives to beautiful villages along the Dordogne river. Finally you will be extremely well looked after by the owners Pippa and Steve, both leading up to your stay and during it. We asked a lot of questions in the lead up, and sort their help for medical contacts during our stay on a weekend when there were public holidays. Pippa went out of her way to help on both occasions. In summary you can rent this beautiful house with a peace of mind, and be assured of a holiday to cherish and remember for a long time.
This owner managed property was ideally located. We were able to stroll to the medieval part of town for sightseeing and dinner as well as be in close proximity to beautiful châteaus, castels and adventures. The personal and friendly out reach of Pippa and Steve was caring but with boundaries. We had an unusual situation arise and when we called them for advise they both dropped what they were doing and arrived at the house to help us.
We had a wonderful 3 week stay and would love to return sgain.
Everything good written about this property is true. One thing that stood out to us was that the owners were on call when we could not understand some appliance or any other matter. That is very important in renting a house in a foreign country. This is particularly important that they are English and we could converse with them easily. The garden and pool provided a wonderful repose when we were tired from traveling. We used Sarlat as a hub in a hub and spoke vacation of outstanding sights.
We had a truly perfect stay at La Maison Breuil. Pippa and her husband were fantastic to deal with before, during and after our stay. The house and pool were fantastic and well equipped. Most importantly for the teenage the girls the Wi-Fi was excellent! The local amenities are ideal - bakery 5 minutes walk and Sarlat centre only 10 minutes walk. We could not have picked a better place for our holiday! We very much hope to return soon!
This was one of the best holidays we have had in 30 years. The house was elegant, comfortable and very conveniently situated in Sarlat. It was so relaxing to be able to wander into the town, visit a few places, buy a few things to eat and return and sit in the garden. We had a Dordogne golf pass which gave us discount on any rounds after the first. We were sorry to leave and hope to return to this ideal holiday house.
Why not enjoy a morning drifting down the Dordogne river in your own canoe, passing Chateaux, Bastides and medieval villages as you go, this is something not to be missed. Take your own picnic and stop off at one of the many beaches along the river, or pull in for a gourmet meal at a riverside restaurant. For those of you feeling a bit more energetic, join one of the many bike tours and see the leafy lanes and valleys. Hot air ballooning and microlight flights can be organised locally for the more adventurous amongst you. There is a 'Tree Adventure Park' near by, which is a great place to go in a group for kids and adults alike. There are also the many local caves including Lascaux and the not to be missed Font de Gaume at les Eyzies with their Prehistoric paintings for you to visit. Sarlat itself offers many free attractions, especially during the summer months, including open air street theatre, acrobats, musicians, art exhibitions, concerts and firework displays.
There are many festivals, fetes and markets throughout the year. From mid July and throughout August there is a Music and Drama Festival in Sarlat, with open air concerts, plays, street entertainers and busking musicians, who will amuse and delight you all for free. Try the summer Night Markets and Gourmet Feast Days where it is possible to sample the food from the region, watch it being cooked before you then sit and enjoy with a glass of local wine in the open air dining areas. During the autumn and winter months you can visit the Truffle markets and search for the famous Cepe mushrooms which grow in abundance in the fertile Dordogne region. Sample the regional delicacy of Foie Gras from the many outlets.
It is all here for you to do whatever your prefer, whether its drifting down the river on a passenger boat or canoe, enjoying a picnic by the river or eating at a Michelin starred restaurant......
