This is an Architect designed house. The house is finished to a high contemporary standard throughout.
The house is located in a quiet area of Mas Ambros which is 2km from the village of Calonge. The house faces south and looks out over Mas Ambros towards the bay of Palamos and Sant Antoni de Calonge.
The house is laid out on sloping site over 3 levels. The living/dining kitchen is on the ground floor. 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom are at mezzanine level to the rear of the house, and the main bedroom/wet room and panoramic balcony and TV room are at the first floor level.
The contemporary open plan kitchen/living/dining leads through folding sliding windows onto the hardwood decked terrace and the infinity pool. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and opens out onto the first floor balcony with panoramic sea views over Mas Ambros to Palamos Harbour and Sant Antoni in the distance. Of the further 2 bedrooms at mezzanine level one has 2 single beds and the other a double bed, both adjacent to the bathroom. There is a separate TV room with access to a wide selection of European channels, and DVD player, the TV room also opens onto the first floor balcony. There is WiFi available throughout the house, and the open plan living/kitchen has an integral stereo system, just bring your ipod!
Tierra de la Selva is a recently completed project for the owner a British Architect who works in both Spain and the UK.
Andrew purchased this villa in 2010
we really had a great time in your beautyful villa!!!! The weather was perfect- sunshine all day long and a little bit of wind against the heat in-and outdoor- and the region around Calonge is really nice- a lot of green and trees and not too much tourism.
The house has a phantastic architecture, we liked especially the large livingroom with its bright floor and the gorgeous wooden stairs ( what kind of wood is it?, I love walking on it barfeet) and the design of the bathrooms (By the way, 2 or 3 hoocks at eyelevel for hanging up the towels wood be good in the upper bathroom). The terrasse is also great, on one side a beautyful view in the surroundings, in the meantime enough protection by the low walls for privacy and the simple but modern and light furniture, which is easily carried in sun or shadow, whatever we wanted.
Imma and Frank are very kind, they offered their help and arranged all little things we missed like dishtowels and a choppingboard.
Your hint with the oven for toasting the bread was helpful, a toaster is not necessary. Moreover, the kitchen offers all we need: enough dishes, a great coffeemachine, and a huuuuuuge fridge for making icecubes.
To cut a long story short, it was a perfect time and we would like to come back once !!!!
As a family of 4 (2 teenage sons) we booked this villa for a 2 week holiday in the Costa Brava. We chose this particular house as we like contemporary designs and were not disappointed. It was spacious light and airy and enough room so we didn't get under each other's feet. We had everything we needed for our stay apart from food and personal items and the owner gave good customer service, before during and after our stay.
The location was great. The many beaches were only a short drive away and there seemed to be no hassle parking whatever time of the day.
The old town of Calonge was a 15 minute walk where there was a good choice of bars and restaurants. Although it was a slight hill climb back it burnt a few calories! The view from the villa was superb both during the day and at night.
It was exceptional hot during our stay so the pool was a godsend. Not huge but certainly adequate for our needs.
Girona was about a 40 minute drive and in my opinion a must to visit. Also the botanical gardens at Palafrugell were stunning and a nice shady few hours were spent there.
I would certainly consider staying here again and have recommened this property to friends.
We had booked this holiday last year but did have concerns after reading one of the recent reviews on this site, however, we have just returned from our second visit to Tierra de la Selva and we are very pleased, and relieved, to say the place is even more fabulous than it was during our visit in 2012.
The owner has carried out further improvements since our last visit, to what was already a really nice and interesting property including new bedroom furniture, a built in BBQ and beautiful landscaped gardens but the best development has to be the newly grassed (artificial) deck area with its purpose built seating along with a comfortable dining area which is shaded with a contemporary sun sail. We spent every day out on the deck with the odd dip in a rather chilly (well it was only the beginning of April) pool and enjoyed cooking in the very well equipped kitchen, the built in coffee maker was a real treat with fresh coffee every morning. During our stay, the decalcification warning light came on, so we had some fun following the instructions on how to carry that out !
The furniture at the house is a real mix of contemporary and antique (it's old and beautiful) and we didn't find any of the furniture to be dirty at all, in fact the whole house was spotless and Imma who met us at the house on arrival ensured we had everything we needed. As was the case on our last visit. My only gripe is that once again, I found the larger folding doors hard to manage although my husband got the hang of it pretty quickly.
Tierra de la Selva is a very light, contemporary, architect designed, open plan house. We don't live in a contemporary house ourselves, but we love the design and it was a treat to be able to spend another 2 weeks here. I do agree that if you like to sleep in a darkened room with complete blackout conditions, this may cause a few problems as the windows are dressed with blinds that are NOT blackout, however, this house markets itself as 'contemporary and light' and with the vast windows I can imagine it would really spoil the house if it was draped in heavy curtains, I also cannot imagine anyone wanting to cover up the vistas of the surrounding mountains and the sea which are spectacular.
Tierra de la Selva is perfect for a couple, a family or group of friends who want a high quality, comfortable, contemporary villa with all the amenities you would expect in this price range, we think it's great value for money and have already re booked ! Thank you.
We stayed in Tierra de la Selva in September, a family of 5. 2 adults and 3 young adults. The house is very well-appointed and comfortable, with plenty of space indoors and out.
We had a wonderful time from start to finish. Andrew was very helpful during the booking process and answered a lot of queries we had about the area, which we hadn’t previously visited. On arrival we met up with Imma, the local agent who showed us around the house, and was very helpful and welcoming.
The house is spacious and open plan, with lots of terraced areas from which to enjoy the fantastic views. A bonus was the newly landscaped gardens , which hadn’t featured on the website !
Calonge, Sant Antoni de Calonge, Palamos, and Platja D’Aro, the main local towns and villages, were all great fun and very interesting, but all very different in their own ways. There really is something for everybody in this part of the Costa Brava, and we had more than enough to keep us busy. And at the end of every day we returned to our lovely house and enjoyed the panoramic views with a glass of chilled local Cava.
Highly recommended !
We had been very much looking forward to our holidays at this house but staying at the place led to a very disappointing summer holidays for our family. To name a few:
no water for days (which meant camping in a “villa”)
a very, very dirty house (we spent more than 3 hours of cleaning with the 4 of us when we first came into the house - a gruesome sticky kitchen and everything in it, cobwebs everywhere, hair in shower, the whole place needed to be vacuumed
old, dirty and poor furniture (part of furniture covered with blankets to hide the filth)
in “master” bedroom no curtains for all windows (which meant bedroom was far too light to sleep in), lousy beds
plinths falling off the wall
millions of ants in and around the house
We have paid a decent amount of money for a 2-weeks stay at this house.
This was our well deserved summer holidays and the idea of it was to relax.
Not to sit behind a computer every day again trying to get things fixed.
Frank by the way being an amiable man.
The homeowner not showing any responsibility/empathy at all and not willing to understand that renting out a house (and receiving a lot of money for that) means a responsibility for people’s holiday/welfare as well.
We left the place before the rental period was ended.
We had an October half term break in this house. The weather was still warm enough for swimming-the beaches nearby are great- and perfect for hiking in the nearby Parc Natural Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxaas. The beaches around Palamos promenade have great play areas -with nice restaurants by the beach- so you can enjoy a a glass while the kids play.
The kitchen/ dining /living area of the house have a great open plan layout -so cooking is fun! and the views are great over the village to the sea. When you open up all the glass doors the pool and terraces are a very natural extension to the house, so eating and drinking outside is very convenient. The house and pool were in immaculate order when we arrived and we found both the owner and the caretaker very direct and helpful.
We had a wonderful January break at this spectacular house near Calonge. If anything, the house is even more stylish and attractive than it's description. Although the design is contemporary, clean and sleek it is also a very comfortable house. You can truly relax and feel at home with big comfy settees and solid wooden furniture. And it certainly lives up to it's Grand Designs' credentials.
The house was perfect for our winter break with plenty of space for six. The master bedroom is particularly attractive with fantastic views over to the Bay of Palamos. The same views can be enjoyed from the kitchen, living and dining area and, of course, when lounging by the pool.
It's just a short walk to the traditional village of Calonge, and very close to the chic resort of Palamos, yet the neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful. We were also lucky with amazingly mild weather and lots of sunshine all week long. We will certainly be back and would recommend this property for an unforgetable break at any time of year.
