Lorenzo’s apartment was just perfect! He was a great host and very helpful. The location of the Medieval Tower was close to all the sights and markets. I will definitely stay there again if I go to Florence.
A Great Place to Stay In While Visiting Florence
“Medival Tower, Medival Tower” is what we would chant to ourselves, quietly, with every step we took to get to this magical place. The view from the top floor is incredible! In fact, every window, on each floor has a delightful view of Florence. We brought our two tween/teen kids to Italy and stayed 5 nights in Torre Donati. The apartment was clean, looked like the pictures, and comfortable. The appliances worked well and the air conditioning was perfect on the hot June nights. Our hosts were welcoming and responsive.
The location is on a lively piazza and is in the Santa Croce district. Being in the historic city center, you are close to all the major sites. Especially close is Santa Croce and the Bargello. Be prepared to walk a lot.
Amazing stay in tower apartment!
We had an amazing time in this apartment! The steps are not for the faint of heart, you will definitely get your cardio workout getting to the apartment and then getting to the bedrooms and living room. It was worth EVERY STEP! We had a mixed group of ages, teenager, 21, 40's and 50's. Lorenzo was a pleasure to deal with before and during our stay. He answered every question we had quickly and politely. Lorenzo even gave my daughter, who lives in Florence, a tour of the apartment before we booked it to make sure it was as described. The apartment was clean and well-maintained. The description of the apartment is completely accurate, the location was perfect to access everything in Florence. We stayed here for four nights and then went to Rome for five nights and every one of us wished we were back in the Tower instead of our apartment in Rome. Would definitely recommend this apartment and looking forward to coming back to Florence and staying here again.
Unfortunately for the steps I cannot do anything, I can only support my guests (women) to help to take their baggage. For the other your comments I thank you very much for your appreciation, is a stimulus for me to getting better.
Amazing views and fabulous location!
We spent 4 nights in this apartment. The photos are quite accurate. The apartment is in a medieval tower in the heart of Florence and is walking distance to pretty much everything in Florence. The owner was cordial and spoke good English. The apartment was clean and in excellent condition. There were a few basics provided such as laundry soap, salt, dish washing soap etc, and I assume these were leftovers from previous guests. There is a supermarket about 2 blocks away where we bought basics such as yogurt, milk, coffee, beer, wine, toilet paper.
Be clear about it- the apartment truly is in a TOWER. My husband counted 96 steps from the street to the lowest level of the apartment (give or take a couple) and then there are still another 35 or so steps up a steep circular staircase to that living room with the amazing views.
Also, be aware that the bathrooms are not en-suite. Both bathrooms are adjacent to each other on the lowest level. The lowest level has the kitchen, small sitting area with a love seat, both bathrooms and a laundry room with washing machine. Typical to most of Europe there is no dryer. There is a clothes line out the sitting room window. We did not use the AC so cannot comment about it. There is a fireplace in the living room but didn't use that either. Small, very basic stereo is in living room (no iPod connector) played CDs but only 2 CDs were provided. We enjoyed wine up there at sunset very much!
From the entry (kitchen) level there are a couple steps up to the first bedroom. Then about 22 steps up a circular staircase take you to the second bedroom. Another 13 steps on the same circular staircase take you up to the living room with views all across Florence. However, to use the bathroom (especially at night) the upper bedroom occupants will need to go DOWN that circular staircase as well. I say this just to be clear about the layout. It might not be for some people. The "handrail" on this staircase was made out of thick rope. While attractive in a medieval sort of way, it did not inspire confidence as a means of support, and we are in our 50's and still in good shape.
That said, there were amazing views, great location, excellent restaurants nearby. The Sant'Ambrogio market is only a few blocks away. We walked all over Florence and ate out every night, so only used the kitchen for breakfast and snacks/wine/cheese in the evening. I would stay here again and I can highly recommend the property with the few caveats above
A Truly Special Place
We had a magical time in the tower apartment. The huge windows and great views in the kitchen created a wonderful way to start each day. And, finishing the day in the fantastic living room was a perfect end. The apartment is lovely and well-equipped with everything you might need. A great grocery nearby and great restaurants on every corner. Also, Lorenzo is a fantastic host.
Looking out over Florence
Our Florence stay in this amazing medieval tower was wonderful....we only wish we had stayed longer. The apartment far exceeded our expectations. The views were stunning day or night...rain or shine. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was perfect. It is hard to describe living in a tower like this...it definitely added to our Italian adventure. Note to travelers though, it is not for the handicapped...you will get your cardio on the stairs.
