About S. Rabbit Goody
My name is Susan Rabbit Goody. My husband John Oakley and I live on a 100 acre farm 17 miles from the lake. Camp Pioneer is our summer cottage located on the same property as Flapping Bass. We spend time at the lake with our grandchildren kayaking, canoeing, fishing and boating. Flapping Bass is our guest cottage and we are happy that we can share it during the summer with folks who enjoy a beautiful lake and everything that Cooperstown has to offer. I run a small weaving mill, Thistle Hill Weavers, located on our farm where we create fabrics for museums, the film industry, and private clients around the world. We actively farm our land and I also have a dressage barn with 18 horses. The lake property was bought 40 years ago by my parents, Helen and Robert Goody so that they could spend the summers on the lake and close to our farm. Flapping Bass was the name my dad gave to this wonderful cottage. Pioneer Point has been the name of the strip of land for more than a century. We love to give tours of our mill and share produce from our farm especially fresh eggs when my hens oblige.

Why S. Rabbit Goody chose Cooperstown
What is very special about Flapping Bass and Pioneer Point is the quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Our end of Otsego Lake is directly across from Hyde Bay and Glimmerglass State Park. We have kayaks and a canoe for your use and its a quiet beautiful setting rain or shine. Cooperstown offers so much for everyone - not just baseball- but opera, concerts, The Farmers' Museum and the Fennimore Art Museum are wonderful. There are farmers' markets and Sharon Springs, a neighboring town has restaurants and shops that are very special.
What makes this Cottage unique
We love the lake for its beauty, its quiet and unspoiled vintage setting. Our end of the lake isnt over crowded and we have a large front lawn. Our neighbors are friendly and we all enjoy sitting and watching the moon rise over the lake on a summer's evening. Its easy to spend the day on the water or sitting by it and recharge but Cooperstown and the neighboring villages have lots of cultural events and great places to eat. If you like Baseball, there's the Hall of Fame, If you like history there's the Farmers' Museum, If you like music there is world class Opera and concerts. It really has it all. Once you've stayed in our cottage you'll want to come back every summer to enjoy it!

Not as advertised and very dirty.
I would give this zero stars if I could. We planned on renting this home while our boys were playing at Cooperstown Dreams Park - week 2. It looked like a nice cabin and we were fully prepared for rustic charm. What we were not expecting was that is was filthy. There was probably a years worth of cobwebs, live and dead bugs and spiders and tons of dust. The bedrooms were also misrepresented. Once you get upstairs, there is a bed in the landing area and then another bed through a doorway. You have to walk by the first bed everytime you want to access the rest of the house. Absolutely NO privacy. Forget about taking your luggage upstairs either - the stairway is super narrow and you can not carry a standard size suitcase or rolling bag up there. I don't think this home would even pass safe standards, I am sure it is not up to code. The windows are painted shut and there is no way to exit the second floor if there was a fire. It also seems structurally unsound. Nothing is square and all the floors are slanted. We arrived late at night (11:30 pm) and left by 1:00am to find the nearest hotel. The TV did not work and there is absolutely no overhead lighting in the entire house except for the pull string fixture in the kitchen - which is nearly impossible to find in the pitch dark. If I could atach pictures, I would, as we took many in order to make a claim to get all our money refunded. Still waiting on a portion of that to be issued.
I was very disappointed in this couple showing up at 11:30 at night when we had expected them at 3 in the afternoon and were waiting for them to show them around. I myself cleaned the cottage and we have NEVER HAD COMPLAINTS. It is advertised as a rustic cottage. The floors are not straight its is vintage with an eating porch, lake access, full kitchen and bath. To get a call at midnight because they couldn't figure out how to operate the cable remote and then claim that we had misrepresented the cottage was extremely disheartening. I immediately told them they would get a full refund as I don't like having people who don't understand descriptions. The money was refunded the next day with the exception of the fees which were minimal. I was under no obligation to refund the money.
We love the lake, we love our cottage and we are sorry that these folks feel the way they do. They obviously prefer cities and hotels. That's fine but others have enjoyed being here for what it has to offer.
Property has amazing views and is cozy. It is by the lake and very nice.
We had an amazing time at this property. We used the kayaks everyday and we had a blast.
Great spot for lake fun!
We stayed here while our son had a week at Cooperstown camp and it was a perfect spot to enjoy the town and the lake! Our hosts were so nice and left us fresh eggs and coffee which we truly appreciated with our late arrival. Make sure you have time to enjoy the lake...We enjoyed the kayaks, canoe and fishing and swimming in the lake...and a lot of baseball. :) Drinking coffee & reading in the morning overlooking the lake was a nice way to start the day. A fun & rustic cabin in a beautiful spot. Cell reception wasn't the best but we managed just fine with finding it in spots or while in town.
And it was a pleasure having you at the lake! You left Flapping Bass as clean as when you found it. I hope you and your family can come again sometime and enjoy the area.
Thank you again for being part of our vacation home!
Beautiful lake and very peaceful and quiet, especially in the evening. Enjoyed using the kayaks and canoe when we were there. Reminded me of my grandparents cottage. Comfortable place to unplug and relax. Hosts are quick to respond to calls/texts.
And you were wonderful guests!
