“Il Gatto Nero” (The Black Cat) is an apartment on the ground floor of a house built in 1993, and has ground-level access.
This beautiful two-room apartment is generously proportioned, with a living area of approximately 50 sq. m. It comprises a large living room with a complete range of kitchen units, a fireplace and a sofa bed, as well as a bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a bathroom with shower.
The apartment has two large patio doors, leading to seating areas of widely differing character. There is an alternative to suit every taste and every occasion: sit under a roof or in the open air, or under pine trees and cypresses, surrounded by little rosemary bushes. Here you can let your gaze wander over Podere Vallari’s gentle slopes and its vineyards and olive groves.
All our holiday properties have been furnished with great care. The apartment is equipped with central heating as well for the colder season.
This apartment is suitable for 2 to 3 guests.
Podere Vallari lies amongst gentle hills below the village of Ripabella, some 8 km from the Mediterranean coast. Guests enjoy its idyllic position set amongst olive groves, with distant views over valleys and hills and westwards towards the sea. In good visibility the view ranges across the countryside and over the sea to the island of Elba and even the craggy silhouette of Corsica! The coastal scenery is varied, with steep cliffs to the north (Castiglioncello-Quercianella) and sandy beaches to the west and south (Cecina, Bibbona, Gulf of Baratti), offering something to appeal to every taste.
The properties are part of Podere Vallari, a small olive-growing estate which has been run organically as a family business by Sigismund and Ursula Hadelich since 1981.
There is a house with two apartments ("Rose" and "Gatto Nero"), and an old farmhouse on a separate property (Casa Grande) with several bedrooms for up to 6 people.
Ursula Hadelich purchased this apartment in 1981
At a reasonable price, you can spend your holiday surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, and relax while looking at the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Close to the idyllic village of Riparbella, the area is not overrun by tourists in the summer, but is within driving distance of the major tourist destinations: 65 km to Pisa, 35 km to Volterra, 85 to Lucca, 85 to Siena, 68 to San Gimignano, 115 to Florence - perfect for sightseeing excursions.
A guest recently remarked that staying at Podere Vallari felt like walking 'in a postcard', because the vineyards, olive groves and view of the sea were so beautiful. If you want a holiday away from tourist traps and commercial pricey holiday retreats, and instead get a real taste of the Tuscan countryside, you've come to the right place!
My wife and I found out about this place through friends who recommended it so highly that we couldn't resist. We were not in the slightest disappointed! It ended up being the most perfect honeymoon location imaginable.
We stayed in the 'Casa grande', with an idyllic view of olive groves and the Ligurian sea on the horizon. The location and ambiance make this an ideal 'home base' for a stay of any duration. We made several day trips to some of the beautiful landmarks of Tuscany, getting to places like Volterra and San Gimignano in under an hour, Lucca and Pisa in just over an hour (via the autostrada), or even the Val D'Orcia within a very reasonable drive. You can also just relax 'at home', enjoy the view from the breakfast table in front of the house, or take a quick excursion to one of the close-by beach towns (e.g. Cecina).
For food, if you want a night out but not go too far, try the pizzeria just a few minutes up the winding road in Riparbella. Want to stay in and cook? Get basic groceries at a little shop in Riparbella, or drive to Cecina for the full grocery experience. Very convenient!
The house itself is very simple, and tasteful, with all the amenities you need (running water, electricity, refrigerator, gas stove, oven). Ursula and Sigismund even left us two bottles of their own wine and some home-made fig jam as well as coffee! There is no internet at the house (which is a pleasant relief!) but if you do need to look something up you can easily get a quick fix at the main house just across the field.
Overall, this was everything we could have wished for. You don't need to be newly-weds to enjoy this place, and we are definitely considering going back here for a relaxing getaway in the future!
