Podere Vallari lies amongst gentle hills below the village of Ripabella, some 8 km from the Mediterranean coast. Guests enjoy its idyllic position set amongst olive groves, with distant views over valleys and hills and westwards towards the sea. In good visibility the view ranges across the countryside and over the sea to the island of Elba and even the craggy silhouette of Corsica! The coastal scenery is varied, with steep cliffs to the north (Castiglioncello-Quercianella) and sandy beaches to the west and south (Cecina, Bibbona, Gulf of Baratti), offering something to appeal to every taste.
The properties are part of Podere Vallari, a small olive-growing estate which has been run organically as a family business by Sigismund and Ursula Hadelich since 1981.
There is a house with two apartments ("Rose" and "Gatto Nero"), and an old farmhouse on a separate property (Casa Grande) with several bedrooms for up to 6 people.
Ursula Hadelich purchased this apartment in 1981
At a reasonable price, you can spend your holiday surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, and relax while looking at the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Close to the idyllic village of Riparbella, the area is not overrun by tourists in the summer, but is within driving distance of the major tourist destinations: 65 km to Pisa, 35 km to Volterra, 85 to Lucca, 85 to Siena, 68 to San Gimignano, 115 to Florence - perfect for sightseeing excursions.
A guest recently remarked that staying at Podere Vallari felt like walking 'in a postcard', because the vineyards, olive groves and view of the sea were so beautiful. If you want a holiday away from tourist traps and commercial pricey holiday retreats, and instead get a real taste of the Tuscan countryside, you've come to the right place!
Guests who have been with us before get 10% off!
We had the good fortune to visit Podere Vallari when we visited my niece who was wwoofing at the property. We were a group of 6 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The property owners are delightful people and gave us many tips about places to go and see in the area. The property is well situated to go on easy day visits to many of the surrounding towns. We visited Florence, Siena and many other small towns in the area. I would not hesitate to book this property and hopefully sometime in the not too distant future, I will have the opportunity to return to this lovely place.
Fantastic location very peaceful and quiet. Made to feel at home and it was great for our dog Jack. Stayed in the house which was basic but fun. It had great views and we had lost of BBQ'S. Lovely village Riparbella. Car is a must. Are hosts could not have been more helpful and we had a lovely evening entertained by them.
In the summer of 2014 I stayed with my teenage daughter in the Rose appartment. It was of perfect size for the two of us, a nice bathroom with a tub (my daughter very happy!). It was all clean and neat.
I liked the arboretum-like garden, there were so many different types of trees. From Podere Vallari we could easely go (by car) to the little lovely village Riparbella on top of the hills and to the sea coast.
Ursula and Sigismund let us feel very welcome and completed our stay with their kindness and helpfulness.
What fond memories we have of our visit. Ursula and Sigismund were wonderful hosts. We were part of a large party. My girlfriend and I stayed in the upper apartment while the rest of the party were in the cottage. The apartment was fantastic, it has all the amenities we needed. It was so inspiring we ended up having the best meals home cooked from the fresh ingredients we got from town. The apartment was clean and very comfortable. Balcony breakfasts and hosting dinners for friends were a pleasure.
Riparbella is centrally located for us that allowed us a day's drive to many beautiful cities such as San Giminano, Pisa, and Volterra to name a few. There were plenty of trails for hikes through the hills. I ran a few times and I have fond memories of a horse that saw me and ran along with me when I passed his farm.
I would highly recommend this place. It was a great opportunity to disconnect from the world and recharge. When I come back to Tuscany this is the place I would stay out without a second thought. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
A few years ago, I stayed in Podere Vallari for 3 weeks, fell completely in love, came back the following year for another 5 weeks. It is the most charming farm of olives and grapes situated in the gentle rolling hills of Tuscany. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the warm hospitality of Ursula and Sigismund, the gracious hosts who will guide you in every step exploring the region. My apartment was spacious, tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. The great location allowed me to visit nearby towns like Pisa, Lucca, San Gimiano, Volterra, and Bolgheri for day trips. When I was not visiting these well known sites, I walked through a wooded path to the peaceful little town of Riparbella, took a local bus to the market in Cecina and went to some nearby beaches on a warm sunny day and collected beautiful stones for souvenirs. What I loved the most though is the beauty and the tranquilty of Podere Vallari itself. I enjoyed strolling down the country lanes watching the sunset on the silhouette of the hills dotted by cypress trees. I loved walking among the beautiful olive trees and vineyards, smelling the rosemary bushes and touching the rich soil. I hope I will be lucky to revisit this very special place many times and greet my wonderful hosts again and again.
I first came to Podere Vallari with a group of women as a surprise birthday gift for a good friend. We rented the farmhouse, and cooked every day, walked into Riparbella, toured the hill towns of Tuscany, and had such a good time that two years later I came back. This time was with my boyfriend and we rented the top floor apartment. Talk about romantic! We had views over the olive groves, a balcony where we enjoyed leisurely breakfasts in the sun, and a kitchen where I tried a couple of Ursula's own recipes. (I still carry her recipe for Tuscan Bread Salad around in my wallet.)
This is a peaceful, country get-away in a great location for visiting some of the gems of Tuscany. Plus, wonderful hosts that I count as friends now, after spending two wonderful weeks with them in Riparbella.
