About Julian Carr
I am Australian and my husband is from the UK. Travel and holidays are a big part of our lives and we also own a villa in Greece. We love skiing and also the mountains in the summer and try to get out to the chalet as often as we can as it is our home.
Julian Carr purchased this Chalet in 2010
Why Julian Carr chose Nendaz
We own the chalet with another family. Between us we have 5 children aged 3 to14 and wanted to be able to accommodate ourselves plus another family on occasion in comfort after numerous ski holidays with poor beds, no hot water, let alone atrocious quality accommodation, so since we couldn't find one, we built one right ourselves !
What makes this Chalet unique
We chose Nendaz because it is high up in Four Valleys which is one of the best ski areas in the world and offers reliable snow through into April as Easter is our favourite time to go with our young children. There is good skiing for all levels and we love to come home to relax with our friends and enjoy the hot tub and log fire and park the children in the other sitting room ! The chalet really does feel special and the views are amazing - I prefer it in the summer as I always feel that I don't get the full benefit in the winter as I am out skiing all day. We are lucky with our chalet service company that provides a dinner service which is brought to the door and I just have to heat up which is no problem and means that I can have a real holiday. Beautiful and comfortable home from home
We were 13 people, 6 children and 7 grown ups and fitted easily and comfortably into this beautiful place! The open kitchen and huge dining table made breakfasts and dinners social and fun. The kids got home on skis and loved it although it is more of an adventure through gardens than skiing. Do bring snow chains for your car(s). We had three four wheel driven cars with winter tires but only one managed the steep street leading towards the main street after it has snowed during the night.
Haute Nendaz itself is not really very pretty and the restaurants are mediocre so cook yourselves in this wonderful home!
Thank you to the Carr family.
Amazing Chalet. Picturesque view. Lovely ski area.
In week 5 we had the opportunity to book and stay at the beautiful Chalet Wildhorn. Everything was perfect. From the booking and initial contact with Pippa to the chalet service during our stay with Nicole. The Chalet is located on a picturesque location overlooking the city and mountains. Being a group of 12 + one baby enough space is required - and you get plenty of space at Chalet Wildhorn! 6 rooms having their own separate bathrooms. We enjoyed making dinner in the big kitchen and to sip an after dinner drink in the living room while looking at the stunning nature. A car is required to visit the Chalet but it only takes 3 minutes by car to reach the cable car skilift in Nendaz. We can highly recommend the Chalet and we will for sure come back to this winter wonderland. /Nicoline Durup (Denmark)
Beautiful, spacious chalet, awesome view!
Beautiful and spacious chalet, perfect for up to 3 families. Reasonable price.
What else do you want?
We (three families with kids, in total 14 persons) had a great time in Chalet Wildhorn. The chalet is very comfortable and the interior is really high end. It was very clean and well maintained. We really appreciated the service that Nicole (the local manager provided). From the start (showing the way to the chalet) until departure she took good care of us. Thank you Nicole!
The jacuzzi was used on a daily basis, beautiful view and always hot.
Don't forget to bring your snow chains, because you need them when snow is falling, however the location of the chalet and the views are worth the drive.
All in all I definitely would recommend the place, as long as we can have a slot for next year.....:-)
Amazing Chalet for a Ski trip
We spent a wonderful week in Chalet Wildhorn (11 people and a child of 1 year), skiing, playing games, relaxing and having lots of fun overall.
The Chalet is very comfortable, offers plenty of room for 11 people, all was beautifully prepared for us and Nicole offered quick help whenever we asked anything. We especially enjoyed the kitchen, spaceous living room, double bedrooms with bathrooms for every couple and of course the jacuzzi.
Ski-in and -out was not really an option, so we stored skiing equipment at the tracouet base station and went there on foot (10min walk).
Getting to the chalet in icy road conditions can be difficult. One of our cars was unable to make the climb after a heavy snow fall, so we left it in the town centre.
Overall it was an amazing week, thanks so much to the Carr family! We will recommend you!
George and friends
George thank you for the kind review - we are glad that you liked the chalet and that you all had a good time despite the icy snow conditions in your week.
Great position, stunning views, a luxury chalet
despite another non-white Christmas we all had a fantastic time, especially over New Year when the fireworks from the valley and the village combine into a spectacular show. 14 people, including 4 marauding 20 year olds, fitted comfortably into the chalet; the combination of the modern interior, en suite bathrooms, entertainment systems, high ceilings and hot tub making the chalet very special. Whilst the area has better snow than nearly anywhere else be aware that this means that all of the surrounding resorts visit the 4 Vallees when the snow is poor. On these days the lift queues make commuting in London look like a picnic.
Haute Nendaz is at the centre of 'The Four Valleys', one of only 7 ski areas in the world awarded 5 stars and there are 412 km of pistes. It is high and the snow is therefore reliable through April.
The resort has a Swiss Tourism 'Families Welcome' logo by virtue of its facilites and is perfect for anyone looking to ski the delights of the Four Valleys but stay away from the crazy prices and raucous party scene on the other side of the hill in Verbier. All levels of skier are well catered for. At the top of the Nendaz cable at Tracouet there is a childrens snow play area on a frozen lake and a restaurant. There are lots of runs for the intermediate skier among the trees and higher up the mountain, with many characterful restaurants to visit. For boarders there are 2 snow parks and for the hardened skier there is no shortage of challenge off piste with the run down the glacier at the back of Mont Fort. The chalet offers ski- in access.
The original mountain town was built around a baroque church dating back to 1499 around which a modern ski resort has been built around the traditional timber houses and grain stores with over 30 restaurants ranging from traditional Swiss at Le Mont Rouge which offers a 13* Gault and Millau rating (similar to Michelin),to Mexican at The Cactus Saloon, or even Moroccan at Le Malabar. Apres ski may start at the terrace of Les Etagnes and carry on to cocktails at the piano bar, Tchin Tchin or the Canadian Pub (cum disco) or L'Oxygene Nightclub ( free entry)
The area is not just about skiing and is fabulous throughout all seaons. The area benefits from 300 days sunshine per year and there are a multitude of activities throughout the year (see www.nendaz.ch) with 98 km walking trails along the famous bisses waterways in the area; mountain biking (250km marked trails); recreation and fitness centre, outdoor pool, tennis in Nendaz; for the children there are organised activities and treasure hunts(see the helpful www.nendaz.ch website). Further afield, Lake Geneva is 45 minutes drive away. For the cultured, Martigny is an interesting visit with the Pierre Giada Foundation and its Roman ruins. Switzerland‘s laregst theme park, Happyland is 35 minutes away as is Waterworld and there are golf courses at Sion (20 minutes) and Crans Montana (35 minutes but worth the extra drive).
