About The Hagen Family

Trying to get away from the long winters of Innsbruck, Austria, we decided to seek out the sun and sand of the Caribbean. In 2009 we discovered Grenada, and never looked back. We are an Austrian/American family who love to cook, entertain, and meet new people. John is Tirolean, has lived and worked all over the world in the hospitality industry, and was the inspiration for this property. Christine, his wife, is American (from Atlanta, GA.) who has a passion for cooking, and also a hospitality background. We currently live in Austria and travel to Grenada whenever we get the chance.

The Hagen Family purchased this villa in 2012

Why The Hagen Family chose Saint George

When we started looking for a place in the sun, we researched all kinds of locations. Then we remembered a small island in the south-eastern Caribbean - Grenada. John visited here in the 70's and could still remember the smell of spices in the air. We decided to vacation there with the idea of possibly buying some property. As soon as we landed we fell in love. Grenada is simply beautiful, and the people are extremely friendly and helpful. The beaches are just lovely with no mass tourism - basically the Caribbean as it once was. Then we got lucky. We found a piece of property in one of the most beautiful bays in the Caribbean - Morne Rouge Bay. We designed the villa ourselves, and have created a place where we can live our Caribbean dream in comfortable luxury. Our villa is located in a quiet residential area, but yet close to all the island has to offer.

What makes this villa unique

We built Villa Belle Morne Rouge with our guests in mind. What would we want if we rented a Caribbean villa - access to the beach with beach chairs reserved just for us, a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room with flat screen TV, stereo system/ipod docking station & DVD player, a covered verandah with bar to watch the sunset, an infinity pool to stay cool, a lift to make it easier for seniors or guests with lots of luggage, comfortable well appointed bedrooms & bathrooms, locally handcrafted furnishings, and above all a magnificent view over the bay. Villa Belle Morne Rouge has all this and more.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have just returned from what can only be described as a holiday of a lifetime.

Having travelled the Caribbean extensively over the years and stayed in some beautiful villas, however, nothing compares to what awaits you at Villa Belle Morne Rouge.

The pure ambience and tranquility of its location is quite simply breathtaking and the view is without doubt, one of the best on the Island.

Being the 1st to rent this villa, I felt like the cat that got the cream every day!

Everything about the villa is pure luxury, the linens, towels, decor, furnishings are all beautiful and superior quality. The kitchen is exceptional and has everything imaginable for those who prefer to cook at home.

The pool is amazing (and warm!) and we spent many hours floating around on our inflatables (don't forget to take yours) whilst watching the activities from the beach below.

During our stay, we had the pleasure of experiencing the in-house chef service which is available at the villa. Bernard the villa manager arranged everything to perfection and we had the most wonderful evening dinning under the stars with our guests. Highly recommended.

Bernard is a diamond and one of life's true gentlemen. He took great pride in every aspect of making our stay as care free as possible - thank you Bernard. Earlin, the housekeeper was lovely, cheerful and discreet. It was always a pleasure to return after one of her visits to a sparkling and immaculate home.

We hired a car and travelled around the Island extensively. Such a beautiful Island to explore with numerous waterfalls, rain forest, small quaint villages and of course, the beaches. The people of Grenada are simply the best and so welcoming and friendly.

In a nutshell, if you are looking for paradise, tranquility, luxury with all the trappings.....This is without doubt the villa for you.

Christine, thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We truly had the most wonderful and relaxing holiday. I will be singing the praises to anyone who cares to listen for a long time to come.

We stayed at Villa Belle for two weeks with our family. The villa is in a beautiful position - not far from Supermarket, beaches, town centre. Very well equipped and comfortable. Staff looked after us throughout our holiday. Managed to fight off mosquitoes by keeping fans on and spraying Deet on us. Great Island - great villa - look forward to visiting again.

The experience is as wonderful as the pictures!

  • 5 of 5

Not every place is as great as the pictures make it look but this home certainly is! If you are looking for a first class experience in a beautiful home on the Island of Grenada, look no further. You can vacation here at any speed, relaxing at the beach or pool or run around the island seeing the sights.

The dogs on site are very friendly to the people staying at the house and somehow they know who belongs and who does not. If you are afraid of or do not like dogs you may want to consider another place, but they will leave you alone if you do not want to interact with them.

The owners of this home are easy to work with and the property manager is quick to respond to any questions or issues. You can chose how often you have the house cleaned so if you want a relaxing day at home without anyone coming by you can arrange that.

The kitchen is fully stocked with the tools you need to cook a nice dinner or you can head out to any of the local restaurants for a great meal.

The pool, yes the pool really is this wonderful, either during the day watching the bay, at sunset when the sky lights up or at night when there are more stars in the sky than back at home. As a bonus, we even got to see rainbows over the rain forest nearly every day and some shooting stars in the evening.

I am already planning my next trip back and will probably stay longer next time.

Great location and very comfortable residence, truly felt like home away from home. Amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

The property is well kept and very private. It was the perfect accommodation for us as a family of six.

Well designed home with careful thought to details and amenities of North American living. There wasn't anything we needed that the property did not have. It even came with the dogs that knew the guests and who were strangers that they alerted you when strangers were around. Would highly recommend this property for a truly relaxing and enjoyable stay on the island. My only comment would be, that if you are travelling with small children, that you should consider the extra watchful care around the pool area that will be required. The owner however, has very strong and strict instructions that relates to the pool. My family and I highly recommend this property and we look forward to staying there again in the very near future.

We are a family of five (three teens and two adults) and we stayed at this lovely home in late July for a week. The home is very open and bright and looks exactly as the photographs represent. The two full bathrooms are a nice size as are the two rooms with queen beds. The third bedroom is a little smaller but still a good size. The home is very well kept, organized and clean. Christine arranged for our transportation from the airport (which was so appreciated) and Gina, the property manager was waiting for us at the home upon our arrival. Gina is lovely and showed us around the home and answered all of our questions. We needed to call Gina a couple of times during our stay to ask questions and she was prompt and extremely pleasant to deal with.

I cannot say enough about the outdoor deck/pool area. We sat out there for hours, taking in the view. The kids loved the pool. A portion of the deck is covered so that you can sit out in the sun or take cover in the shade. We made use of the BBQ and ate dinner on the deck, enjoying the sunsets.

The walk to the beach is about 5 minutes down a path but it is a steep walk. We had no issues with the walk up and down but if you had some physical limitations, it might be something to consider. We also walked along Morne Rouge beach and then took a shortcut over to Grand Anse Beach. That is a longer walk (about 20/25 minutes) but something our family liked doing. Many locals told us they prefer Morne Rouge beach to Grand Anse. The water is so incredibly calm at Morne Rouge and the beach is kept very clean -- great for kids.

I emailed Christine several times before committing to her home and she was so prompt in responding to my emails and answering my questions. Even once I had booked the house I emailed her to ask her questions about such things as tours, restaurants, groceries, etc. and she always provided prompt and helpful responses. She was a pleasure to deal with. She even arranged for Gina to bring groceries into our home prior to our arrival so that we were set up with some food to start.

We loved our stay and would highly recommend this home to others. We would definitely return to this property in the future.

I feel that I should also make mention of the two dogs that reside on the property. They were absolute sweethearts. They were so friendly and I often couldn't find my kids because they were outside playing with the dogs. I had no concerns about the dogs at all.

Awesome Villa in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I have been going to Grenada for the past 6 years and this is my first time staying at Villa Belle Morne Rouge and loved it! Its not that easy finding a villa, with an amazing ocean view on the beach, with the amenities such as Villa Belle. The booking was very easy and the owners are very responsive and accommodating.

I was sailing for 8 nights prior to my arrival in Grenada and had a long day flying on LIAT airlines. Gina, the property manager, greeted us at the villa with the A/C on in our bedrooms and the fridge stocked with items we requested, which was such a relief after a long day of travel. Gina was very responsive and attentive....great property manager!

I highly recommend this villa for the amazing views, easy beach access, close proximity to Grand Anse and surrounding restaurants and bars. In addition to the well appointed villa, which was very comfortable, well furnished and very clean!

Finally, the dogs at the property are very friendly and lazy! Every time we came home they were sleeping and greeted us with wagging tails!

A must place to rent if you are going to Grenada!

Appearances can be misleading!!!

  • 1 of 5

I recently returned from an extended stay in Grenada, which in part included a stay at Belle Morne Rouge Villa. From the previous reviews I’d seen, I was very much looking forward to my stay.

Unfortunately, on arrival (I agreed to a 4:00pm check out to help the existing guests) – I was greeted by two large dogs, which turned out to be rescue dogs. Additionally, I was advised by Gina (the check in host) they also came with the Villa! This information was never provided to the company I booked through and having checked again, wasn’t mentioned on the actual Villa owners advertisement or any third party sites. I am not a great fan of dogs having been badly bitten by a rescue dog some years ago, so didn’t welcome this news with enthusiasm. Gina was quite flippant about me not being told about the dogs, adding that previous guests hadn’t objected to this, bar one guest who used the lift as a result of.

Additionally, the Villa was not ready for my arrival. The previous guests were walking out as I arrived, so clearly the cleaner hadn’t had time to make the Villa ready. She advised me to come back between 4:30pm and 5:00pm, which I did. Seeing as I already agreed to a late check in time (despite already being on Grenada) I thought this was disappointing as well. The elevator wasn’t working either, so all luggage had to be taken down stairs. Subsequently, the elevator was repaired four days later, though the key to lock the elevator wasn’t available – thus making it not much use! The elevator goes directly in to the Villa, so the key to lock it is needed for security.

The two rescue dogs were not allowed in the Villa, so merely ‘roam’ around the outside garden / patio area, but it is necessary to pass them when entering / leaving the Villa through the outdoor patio area and stairs. There is a gate to open / shut to keep the dogs in. Though the dogs seemed friendly enough, they were both quite large dogs and formerly rescue dogs. As I had found out to my cost years ago, rescue dogs aren’t always friendly and can turn quickly. The dogs were essentially a cheap security measure from what I could make out. However, with that in mind, guests should be aware that they bark essentially on occasion (regular occasions) whenever folk are walking by the Villa, down the beach path (which runs parallel to the Villa) and also in tune with the many other property owners dogs which also ‘yap’ relentlessly through the day / night.
