Come relax in our cozy 2 bedroom, fully furnished guest house located on 10 acres at the Head of the Sequatchie Valley, halfway between Crossville and Pikeville. We are tucked in by the beautiful hills of God's Country. There is something very special in this space between the mountains. Walk down to the Sequatchie river which runs through our homestead and enjoy what nature provides each season. In hot weather, dip your feet in the cool water or sit in a chair and read a book while listening to the relaxing sound of the river. If you are looking to escape city life, have a personal retreat, or a quiet getaway, we offer a peaceful respite for rest and relaxation. We are next to the soon-to-be-opened Cumberland Trail State Park and located in Cumberland County, the golf capital of Tennessee which has ten championship golf courses. We are 20 minutes South of Crossville, TN, on the Cumberland Plateau which is home to the Cumberland County Playhouse, the historic homestead area, and Cumberland Mountain State Park. We are also one hour from the beautiful Fall Creek Falls State park. Other nearby waterfalls include Burgess Falls, Cummins Falls, Ozone Falls, and Rock Island State Park, among others. We are conveniently located 1 1/2 hours from Chattanooga and Knoxville. We are also 2 hours from the Great Smoky Mountains and Nashville. Our guest cottage is remote, quiet, and peaceful. Depending on the season and weather, we can offer a campfire down by the river, horse shoe pit, barbecue grill, and supervised use of the wood stove. About Larry and Beverly Maxwell
The Maxwell family has lived on this property for the last 30+ years, taking it from a wild, thorn-covered property to a park-like setting. Its original owner, Larry's father, Rupert Maxwell, was a WWII P47 Thunderbolt fighter pilot and was shot down over Germany and held in a prisoner of war camp for one year. Rupert passed down many lessons including his love for the Lord, this property, and the hard work it takes to maintain it. Larry and Rupert built both houses, including the barn. Larry and Beverly are avid outdoorsman. We love to hunt and fish, hike, garden, cook, read, sit down by the river and swing on the porch. God has blessed us with this homestead and we would love to share this special place with you. Coming from a military family, Larry has lived in several places, while Beverly grew up and lived in Michigan. Together, we share 4 grown children and 5 grandchildren. We are laid back folks who love our quiet piece of the world.
Why Larry and Beverly Maxwell chose Pikeville
This property, our little piece of the world, is secluded enough to be a peaceful haven and yet not too far from amenities. We love it!
What makes this Cabin unique
What people say when they come here is that it is so beautiful and peaceful and that we are so blessed to be able to live here. The Valley is a historic place where Cherokee Indians once made their home until they were moved out on the Trail of Tears. The first Sheriff of Cumberland County is buried on the State property next door. The Sequatchie river originates out of the hillside nearby and runs through our property and makes a great place to cool ones feet on a hot day! Wildlife pays us frequent visits that include deer, turkeys, fox, coyote, bobcat, and many species of birds, etc. Beauty abounds in this space between the mountains and if you sit long enough or wander with a keen eye, you, too, can take in its wonders and escape the real world for a while.

Peaceful, Safe Scenic Getaway
This cottage is a beautiful hideaway for anyone wanting some R & R. The owners make you feel at home and Beverly surprised us with homemade pumpkin muffins. We had all the comforts of home and more. The cottage is so spacious and comfortable for a family. We felt safe and wished we could stay longer. We will definitely come back here in the warmer months to enjoy the outdoors and relax on the inviting front porch. Thank you Beverly and Steve for opening your lovely cottage to us.
I only wish I could have stayed longer. Very quiet and peaceful cottage was very clean and charming. Larry and Beverly couldn't have been any nicer and Beverly's pumpkin muffins are to die for. Hope to come back in the future.
Tranquil and Picturesque
Larry and Beverly were gracious hosts; available, friendly, and helpful, but not intrusive. The cottage surpassed our expectations and fit our needs perfectly. It was clean, tidy and had all the necessary amenities and comforts. The property is a pristinely manicured, tranquil retreat, with a quietly burbling stream and lush mountain views. Homemade apple pie greeted us on our arrival, and we left with a beautiful bar of Beverly's handmade soap. We spent two fun-filled days golfing at Bear Trace, just a hop and a skip from the cabin. Our focus was golf and our time was limited, so we look forward to returning next year to Tranquil Cottage and exploring more of what the area has to offer.
A true wonderland
My husband and I loved this property. It has such an idyllic setting --- feels almost dreamlike. There is a beautiful clean, clear river that runs along the property., nice mountain view. Total quiet and privacy. Owners' cabin is next door but that is a plus since they are only a help (if asked) --- otherwise never seen/heard from. Cottage is spic and span clean and very well equipped. Perfect getaway place. God surely smiled when he created this property!
We are so grateful that you both enjoyed our peaceful setting in the Valley. It is definitely a place that inspires and provides rest for the weary soul. We do hope you'll come again.
Great cabin nestled in a beautiful mountain valley.
Enjoy relaxing in the lovely cabin or enjoying lots to do in the area.
My Dad and I stayed here for several days. The location was perfect - my Dad enjoyed the mountain view from the comfort of the recliner. We visited several places nearby and this cozy retreat was wonderful to come home to each day. Very clean and the owners were very hospitable and on hand should you need anything. Hope to stay again in the near future! Would definitely recommend.
We thank you very much for your kind review! We love meeting wonderful people such as yourselves and the best part is feeling like we've made new friends. We are so glad you enjoyed the mountain view. We never tire of it ourselves. We look forward to your next return visit.
