Larry and Beverly Maxwell
About Larry and Beverly Maxwell
The Maxwell family has lived on this property for the last 30+ years, taking it from a wild, thorn-covered property to a park-like setting. Its original owner, Larry's father, Rupert Maxwell, was a WWII P47 Thunderbolt fighter pilot and was shot down over Germany and held in a prisoner of war camp for one year. Rupert passed down many lessons including his love for the Lord, this property, and the hard work it takes to maintain it. Larry and Rupert built both houses, including the barn. Larry and Beverly are avid outdoorsman. We love to hunt and fish, hike, garden, cook, make soap, read, sit down by the river and swing on the porch. God has blessed us with this homestead and we would love to share this special place with you. Coming from a military family, Larry has lived in several places, while Beverly grew up and lived in Michigan. Together, we share 4 grown children and 6 grandchildren. We are laid back folks who love our quiet piece of the world.
Why Larry and Beverly Maxwell chose Pikeville
This property, our little piece of the world, is secluded enough to be a peaceful haven and yet not too far from amenities. We love it!
What makes this Cabin unique
What people say when they come here is that it is so beautiful and peaceful and that we are so blessed to be able to live here. The Valley is a historic place where Cherokee Indians once made their home until they were moved out on the Trail of Tears. The first Sheriff of Cumberland County is buried on the State property next door. The Sequatchie river originates out of the hillside nearby and runs through our property and makes a great place to cool ones feet on a hot day! Wildlife pays us frequent visits that include deer, turkeys, fox, coyote, bobcat, and many species of birds, etc. Beauty abounds in this space between the mountains and if you sit long enough or wander with a keen eye, you, too, can take in its wonders and escape the real world for a while.

A Slice of Heaven on Earth
Gorgeous cottage with a sunrise coming over the mountain, the sound of rushing water from the creek, and the kindness from the most generous hosts, made for the most relaxing and restorative weekend we've had in recent memory. Larry led us on a private hike, Beverly graced us with garden vegetables, and we even shared a delicious meal with them on our last night. The cottage had every amenity one could want, including a homemade dessert, which my husband soon devoured upon our arrival. We experienced southern hospitality by orders of magnitude. In a world fraught with every kind of worry, it was nice to step away and be surrounded by the beauty of nature and good people. A world away from troubles, we took advantage of the quiet, the peacefulness, the sounds of rushing water and the songs of birds, and the kindness of our hosts. We will definitely be back.
So grateful that you enjoyed your stay and escape the madness for a while. We enjoyed spending some time with you and look forward to your next visit.
What a wonderful place to spend a few days or more! Beverly and Larry were wonderful hosts and made our stay seem like we were staying with friends. I have already recommended Tranquility Cottage to friends and plan on staying there again!
Thank you so very much and we feel the same way! We appreciate the recommendations and look forward to your next visit.
The title just about sums up this rental! The host duo of Larry and Beverly was nothing short of being exceptional, from a very warm greeting, delicious muffins waiting in our cabin right down to total privacy.... a hidden gem for sure!! We will be back without question :)
Thank you so much for your kind review. We are always thrilled when people enjoy our little place in this world and find it a place of peace. We look forward to your next visit!
Relaxing stay in the mountains
A few friends and I stayed here for a long weekend and had a blast. We love the Cumberland Plateau so Pikeville is a great location to see the sights and experience the beauties of nature all around. Larry and Beverly were gracious hosts and made our stay a memorable one. Thanks for everything and we hope to be back soon!
Thank you so much for your kind review! You and your friends were such nice people! We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves and appreciate what our area has to offer. We look forward to your return!
We are over the moon happy with this VRBO home . We chose this location originally based on location and the view. This vacation for us was a multi purpose trip including our one year anniversary, a baby moon (due with our daughter 4 weeks after this stay), and within 45 minutes to our families house for thanksgiving. Let me just say this property and location gets a 10/10 for all the reasons we vacationd. The process was easy, the rental property felt like home , and they accommodated us arriving hours before our check in time . We fell asleep to the sound of the river and woke
up each morning to the birds chirping. The beds are sooo comfortable and the property owners are AMAZING. Larry took us on a hike to the neighboring property which is absolutely beautiful. My husband and I will definitely be back and have recommended this property to all
family traveling thru the area . Beverly and Larry have such kind and gentle spirits . We cant rave about are stay enough. It was just what we needed before our baby is born .
We are so thrilled to read that you enjoyed your stay here! You're such a sweet couple and we are so thankful that you found our place comfortable and peaceful, especially before life with a baby! Our blessings on that little one!
We are conveniently located between Crossville and Pikeville, on the edge of Cumberland county at the head of the beautiful Sequatchie Valley off Old Hwy 28, around 5 miles from Hwy 127.
