We hope as you step into the Flagstone Hallway of Polperro House you will have the same feelings as we did when we first viewed it! We were blown away by the position of the property and the house itself. As we stepped in we had our breath taken away. We felt like children in a sweetie shop, each large room delighting us with the way they have been kept to their original Cornish build and the views, well words failed us!
Polperro House was originally two separate houses, now joined into a grade II Listed house with a south facing garden enjoying its own micro climate with breath taking views of the historic harbour and on out to sea.
The house has its own `unique` history as the owner of the house at the beginning of the 1900`s was the first person in the country to own an `Automobile` which is recorded in the history books. Also, it belonged to a 'Famous local` Cornish artist called Herbert E Butler a black and white photo of him and his wife are in the kitchen stood in the entrance porch. The house was used to school art, his wife originally lived in the middle of three properties before they married? The other attached house is still owned by his family members.
Live in the foot steps of Pirates and sailors from years gone by. Explore the hidden beaches and coves where the smugglers hid their barrels of rum and other `treasures`. Walk the coastal paths taking in the endless views across the ocean with the sailing ships gently gliding past, find the Tidal pool. All the local eating places come highly recommended, we believe there are 21!
Just park your car in one of our parking spaces located in the heart of the village approximately 100 metres away and drift into your relaxing holiday.
Sit on the warm Mediterranean style Patio after it has been heated by the sun and watch it set behind the westerly facing hill with a nice drink in your hand whilst listening to the soothing sounds of a small harbour. Contemplate an evening in one of the welcoming Pubs and restaurants or just sit and listen to the talk of people strolling around on the opposite side of the Harbour.
There are many events throughout the year, one being the Polperro Festival in mid June-a week of great free music and activities with the election of the new Mayor which is a far cry from the traditional!
The master bedroom has a large Victorian style ensuite bathroom with cast iron Roll Top bath and MASSIVE SHOWER, all the other bedrooms are VERY LARGE as well, another one also having a Roll Top bath and separate shower cubicle. The Double bedroom on the mid level also has a en-suite with shower, toilet and sink. The bedroom with 2 single beds and has a large Victorian fitted hand wash basin, the entrance to the shower, toilet and sink being on the facing door of the corridor (two tiny infant steps away).
The downstairs lounge has a solid oak floor, the ceiling is its original, gnarled, knotted aged pine which complements the high quality leather suite and wood structure. Leading off this ground floor room is a toilet, electric shower and wash basin to help save your legs. This is where the latest, High Speed, Broadband is located.
The kitchen has a beautiful bespoke fitted kitchen with large range cooker and quality solid oak table, oak floor and furniture.
The house was originally advertised as only accommodating 8 people but will sleep 10 as 8 is the `comfortable` seating capacity in the kitchen, downstairs lounge and the outside table.
There are three double beds (two en-suite, the third has is own massive bathroom with shower and cast roll top bath) in three massive Victorian rooms, one bunk bed, and two single beds in two separate rooms, a TOTAL OF 3 DOUBLE BEDS AND FOUR SINGLES.
Being on the warm airflow from the Gulf Stream and hidden well below the top of the hill, Polperro enjoys its own micro climate making the winters very mild-the Nasturtiums were still in flower on Christmas day!
We spent Christmas here just after we bought it, walking about outside in T-shirts on Christmas day! Our dog loves having his ball and sticks thrown into the water in the shallow harbour or on the beach to tire him out.
The private garden is fully secure, so if your dog is not in the kitchen, they would be safe in the garden. We have a dog cage which prevented ours running around the house helping to keep it clean and odour free for the future guests.
We offer it to you as a beautiful holiday home to enjoy.
The Garden or Patio is 33 feet long, 24 feet wide. It has an eight seater glass topped rattan table, with eight seats. You can sit on the Swinging Bench Seat or on the bench seats next to the patio wall to overlook the harbour whilst taking in the ambiance and gentle goings on of the harbour life down below you. Additional seating can be found in the storage shed by the side of the barbeque.
