There is a half-bath on the first floor. Walk upstairs to a private, spacious loft with two twin beds and a full bathroom. Watch the change of the water on this tidal cove (11 ft tidal change). Great Place to Relax and Get Away From It ALL.

  • 5 of 5

We had a Great stay at the house. It was nice to come here at night and just relax to peaceful environment. And we enjoyed seeing three deer on the side of the house one morning and we also seen a fox in the yard too. Cathy and Rick are great to communicate with through emails and the regular mail, and also once you arrive there's a binder with all the details to have a safe and wonderful vacation at their house. We had such a great experience with getting engaged at Jordan Pond in Acadia National Park and coming home to your great house to relax after long days of exploring Maine. Thank you Cathy and Rick for providing a great clean house.

Beautiful and thoroughly relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

Staying at the Great Ledge house brought home the idea that where one stays is deeply part of the vacation experience. Thank you, Cathy and Rick for making your home available and for showing the pictorial history of the house building. We purposely planned time at the house just to be there and watch the tidal cove over the course of a day. We also had a full moon developing during our stay and had moonlight in our bedroom, which was lovely.

The area of Schoodic Bay is beautiful, especially Acadia where we hiked and rode bikes. We also visited Thuya Gardens which was relaxing and beautiful. We went to Bar Harbor but for us it was simply too busy for us.

We hope to come back.

Thank you

A beautiful quiet spot

  • 4 of 5

We very much enjoyed our week in Lamoine and only wish that it could have been longer as we did not get enough time just relaxing at the house. The house is just a pictured and is nice and clean and well appointed. The kids (5 and 8) loved the loft and there is a nice gate at the top of the stairs. My only complaint would be the light and dark...a little too light in the early mornings without any shades in the house (and a 5 year old waking me by 6:00 a.m. each morning!) and a little dark at in the evening, especially over the table. The favorite spot was sitting on the deck at cocktail time playing games (4 chairs would be great, we did bring a couple of folding chairs after seeing the photos). The tidal inlet is just beautiful and so peaceful and quiet. I was concerned that is was too close to the house and that there was such an extreme low and high tide, neither of these things were an issue. There is a good separation with the wooded area which I was comfortable with my kids exploring on their own and there is not an extreme drop off at the shore line, but rock shelves creating a gradual entry in most places. We brought kayaks and enjoyed paddling out front and swimming.

The location was good. Ellsworth is an easy 8-10 minute drive so it was quick to pick up groceries or hit another store. The drive, while easy, to Bar Harbor and Acadia was just a bit longer than I was expecting. We spent quite a bit of time exploring the park and they were long days as once we were out, we were out. We also explored Winter Harbor and the Scoodic Peninsula which I highly recommend, it was just beautiful and hardly any people there. The kids had one of their best afternoons exploring the rocks there.

All in all a really wonderful vacation and spot to call home during the week. I highly recommend it!

Serene, relaxing and revitalising!

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week in Lamoine and the whole family really enjoyed the trip. The house is very comfortable, clean and has lovely views down to the inlet. Watching the tide come and go, reading on the deck, relaxing in the hammock, eating muscles gathered from the inlet were just some of the things we enjoyed. The absence of Wifi and TV meant we truly relaxed and played a lot of board games. The house is perfect for 4 people, we had plenty of space.

We took our own canoe and went out everyday in it. The kids swam in the inlet but wore wetsuits as it's pretty cold! We would love to return!

Spent spring break here and had a great time! Perfect for a family of four. We brought kayaks and went kayaking in the tidal cove. There is zero water at low tide so the kids ages 6 & 9 loved squishing around in the mud and digging for shells/clams etc. It is amazing to see how deep the water is at high tide! Spent most of our time in Acadia--be sure to see Diver Ed if you have kids. The house itself is our ideal house. Clean and comfortable, has everything you need including a wood burning stove. It is simple and loved the loft. Thanks!

Wonderful, quiet, relaxing place

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time. It was a wonderful, secluded, relaxing place. No internet? No problem! Great place to read, sit outside, lay in the hammock, watch the tide go in and out, etc. (You do have quite a tide!)

The only problem was that the weather was too good. I love using wood stoves on a cool evening. The stove was there. The wood was there. But the weather was too warm to justify using it. Only one night cooled enough to put on the stove and then I had to open the windows a bit because the wood stove worked so well. Next time we come I want few cooler nights!

The cottage was great, well furnished, lots of windows facing the inlet, large deck, nice loft area. Cathy and Rick promptly answered all questions and everything was completely in order with regards to the cottage and grounds.

Getting to Bar Harbor, Acadia NP, and Ellsworth was easy. We did the typical (and beautiful) hike around Jordan Pond in Acadia NP and also climbed Mt. Dorr - beautiful scenery but a bit of a challenge. We did the required stop in Bar Harbor, even though we don't spend much time in tourist towns / shops. However, we actually spent more time heading east to the Schoodic peninsula and surrounding area. We really enjoyed the part of Acadia NP that is on the south end of Schoodic peninsula. We did not know that it was there until we read about it in the travel book in the cottage. There was also a very good restaurant called the Fisherman's Inn in Winter Harbor (on Schoodic peninsula). We also liked the Ironbound Restaurant in Hancock.

As for recommending this cottage, we highly recommend it to people who like hiking, nature, reading, relaxing, and similar. Those who want night life, shopping, social activities, or similar should probably head to places further SW down the ME coast. Personally, we hope to visit again as this was our third time in ME and our most enjoyable trip of the three.
