Downeast and Acadia House Rental Photos and Description

- 2 BR, 1.5 BA, sleeps 4

Enjoy this beautiful 1990 constructed post and beam home nestled in the woods on a private five acre retreat. This home has cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors throughout, an open floor plan with lots of windows. The first floor bedroom has a queen-size bed and views through the woods to the water. There is a half-bath on the first floor. Walk upstairs to a private, spacious loft with two twin beds and a full bathroom. Watch the change of the water on this tidal cove (11 ft tidal change). Swim at high tide off granite ledges and enjoy low tide walks along the shoreline. Your stay includes all bed linens and bath towels.

Acadia National Park is a treasure to explore. The Schoodic Peninsula area of Acadia is more remote, less traveled, yet equally as spectacular as the Mount Desert Island area. This rental house is a 30 minute drive from each of these Acadia National Park locations.

Suitability:
  • non smoking only
  • pets not allowed

fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Spent spring break here and had a great time! Perfect for a family of four. We brought kayaks and went kayaking in the tidal cove. There is zero water at low tide so the kids ages 6 & 9 loved squishing around in the mud and digging for shells/clams etc. It is amazing to see how deep the water is at high tide! Spent most of our time in Acadia--be sure to see Diver Ed if you have kids. The house itself is our ideal house. Clean and comfortable, has everything you need including a wood burning stove. It is simple and perfect...kids loved the loft. Thanks!

Wonderful, quiet, relaxing place

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time. It was a wonderful, secluded, relaxing place. No internet? No problem! Great place to read, sit outside, lay in the hammock, watch the tide go in and out, etc. (You do have quite a tide!)

The only problem was that the weather was too good. I love using wood stoves on a cool evening. The stove was there. The wood was there. But the weather was too warm to justify using it. Only one night cooled enough to put on the stove and then I had to open the windows a bit because the wood stove worked so well. Next time we come I want few cooler nights!

The cottage was great, well furnished, lots of windows facing the inlet, large deck, nice loft area. Cathy and Rick promptly answered all questions and everything was completely in order with regards to the cottage and grounds.

Getting to Bar Harbor, Acadia NP, and Ellsworth was easy. We did the typical (and beautiful) hike around Jordan Pond in Acadia NP and also climbed Mt. Dorr - beautiful scenery but a bit of a challenge. We did the required stop in Bar Harbor, even though we don't spend much time in tourist towns / shops. However, we actually spent more time heading east to the Schoodic peninsula and surrounding area. We really enjoyed the part of Acadia NP that is on the south end of Schoodic peninsula. We did not know that it was there until we read about it in the travel book in the cottage. There was also a very good restaurant called the Fisherman's Inn in Winter Harbor (on Schoodic peninsula). We also liked the Ironbound Restaurant in Hancock.

As for recommending this cottage, we highly recommend it to people who like hiking, nature, reading, relaxing, and similar. Those who want night life, shopping, social activities, or similar should probably head to places further SW down the ME coast. Personally, we hope to visit again as this was our third time in ME and our most enjoyable trip of the three.

So much more than words can describe...............

  • 5 of 5

Recently had the complete pleasure of staying at this property with my girlfriend for a week.

"5 peaceful acres" indeed - but it seemed to be 25 acres with the only sounds being yourselves or an occasional bird.

Maine coast sounds. Wind blowing through the pines sounds

There is no internet or cable TV - and you never even miss them.

The stereo picked up a surprising number of stations and was all one needed

If there is a heaven, it indeed is this place!

Two weeks back and I miss that place - which if you knew me and how fussy I am about details - means a lot.

Cathy - who I communicated with probably too much as I asked a lot of questions about this property - was always with an answer to any of my concerns.

The guestbook was full of happy entries by everyone.

I have had a lifetime of Maine at 61 now as my dad was from inland (Waterville) and our family traveled to the Maine coast often as a sort of pilgrimage.

This was by far my best experience and look forward to going back to this Lamoine Post and Beam if its at all possible :)

No negatives here - just a great Maine experience!

Relaxing but active week - July 2012

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful week in Maine! Cathy's directions to the house were great. It was clean and stocked with everything we needed including laundry soap. My wife, 7-year-old son and I had a wonderful time and Cathy was very gracious to allow two Vermont friends to join us for 3 nights even though the description states the house sleeps four. We loved the layout of the house and our son especially liked sleeping in the loft. The house is secluded so we felt like we had our our spot in the woods and on the waterfront. We all enjoyed walks and photographing along the inlet at both high and low tides.

We spent two days on the Scoodic Penisula and five days on Mt. Desert Island. Lots to see and do, great hiking, wonderful boat tours (Friendship sloops, whale watching, and the Sea Princess), and fabulous food. Thurston's lobster pound in Bernard and Red's Eats in Wiscassett (an hour south on US 1) had the best lobster but our biggest dining surprise was Chester Pike's Galley In Sullivan. They serve breakfast and lunch but we went for Friday night, the only evening they are open. The mussels appetizer and the fried clams were outstanding!

Thanks, Cathy, for all you did to make this possible.

Waterfront post and beam

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week at this wonderfully peaceful retreat and enjoyed every minute. The house is more than I could of hoped for. Plenty of peace and quiet, art via the windows, and close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Plan on returning next year and have already recommended it to 2 friends

Wedding 06/26/10

  • 5 of 5

My fiance, his best man, his wife, their infant, and I all reserved this cottage the week of our wedding. We loved it! The cottage was all we dreamed it would be and more! Everything we needed - it had. From lobster pots and picks, a canoe, a hammock, a wonderful deck, tranquility, and relaxation. It was even complete with a bag of cookies in the cupboard! A day or so after our arrival, the owners called and left a message to make sure we had everything we needed. The view was beautiful, the beds were comfortable, we can't begin to explain what a truely amazing time we had! My bridesaids and I all got ready at the cottage and the pictures came out beautifully. The limo was able to manuver the driveway, the photographer took some great shots, we really had a wonderful time. Everything was so perfect, it was like a fairytale. We will definately return soon! Thank you so much!!
