Adorable cottage with Stunning Views:
My husband and I visited the cottage in the off-season and kind of expected to be cooped up because it would be too cold to venture outside. But on sunny days, the large yard is very welcoming and you can choose various sides of the house to 'sun' yourself depending on whether you like a breeze or not. Too hot -- go to the breezy side. A little cold? Go to the sunny non-breezy side.
On rainy days, the expansive view of harbor was a sight to behold. I could have sat at the dining table or the little sun porch all day watching the boats and the skies and the clouds. It was exquisite. One day I wound up taking the same picture on a dozen different occasions because the sunlight kept changing -- one view becamea rpettier than the next and it was hard to just sit there watching it. I wanted to take it all in :)
I recommend this cottage for romantic get aways and most definitely for people with kids (just make sure you watch the little ones because you ARE on water). It's also a great place for a family reunion. There are two dwellings on the property which gives family members just enuf togetherness and separateness to stay happy
Our family has spent time at Larry Holden's magical property for two summers now and plan to continue to do so for as long as he'll have us. The space is perfect for our growing, multigenerational family with nooks and cranny's where you can go to be alone but communal spaces large enough for us all to be together, too. We rarely find the need to leave the property but when we do there are wonderful dining choices and things to do nearby. We take the quick walk up to Erika's Seafood at least twice during our visits. Our week in Harpswell is an annual highlight and we can't wait to go back.
The accommodations are rustic and comfortable but the view and the property is what brings a smile every morning. We find we don't travel far except maybe a day in Freeport or an evening stroll to the Dolphin Marina for a sunset cocktail. The surrounding coves are great to explore by kayak and the yard is great for games from volleyball to corn hole. The fresh ocean keeps us coming back every year.... And don't forget your fishing pole. G. F.
This is an attractive comfortable property. The water views are beautiful, and the kitchen is well equipped. Our only objection is the bathroom which needs some cosmetic work.
THE HOUSE WORK OUT PERFECT FOR ARE family HAD a VERY ENJOABLE TIME The kids played volley ball and swam in the water y parents watched the boats go by. want to go back thank you.
This amazing house on Casco Bay was the perfect location for us (my partner and I). It's our first time in Maine and we couldn't have asked for a better place to enjoy the magnificent coastal beauty. This house literally sits right at the edge of the bay with a 180 degree view of glistening water. Boats dock in a distance where lobster men pull up their catch. It's as picturesque as one would expect to see in a Maine postcard!
We spent a week here in the beginning of May, and the weather wasn't yet ideal to do many outdoor activities. When it wasn't raining we barbecued outside and tried our luck fishing right off the dock. We napped on the hammock under two small trees while taking in the fresh ocean breeze.Sitting out on the deck we watched the loons play and the lobster men at work. When it rained we stayed inside and played board games or just read books at the dining table where the main attraction is the view of Casco-- Enjoying a lobster dinner here at dusk beats any fine dining restaurant anytime, anywhere!
My partner and I loved the privacy that came with this house. There were neighboring houses perhaps 50 yards on either side. They might have been vacation rentals as well, but at this early in the season no one was around but us. Privacy was one of the main(e) thing we were looking for and we got plenty of it!
Our host, Larry, was extremely helpful. He provided us with directions, info on grocers and places to get basic needs, info on where to eat and points of interest. In the house we found many, many brochures on attractions in the entire state of Maine. Our mobile phone service had very poor receptions at this house, but there was internet and Larry was always on standby via email to answer any inquiries we might have had. He also had housekeepers that would come around if we needed them.
We spent a few days exploring neighboring towns. Brunswick and Bar Harbor were quaint and lovely. Freeport and Portland were bustling yet enjoyable. One of the highlights of our trip was hiking on Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island. The views up there were nothing short of majestic--they took our breath away!
We had the pleasure of talking to some locals at Erica's Lobster Pound just down the street. They were some of the nicest people we have ever met. This lobster pound, by the way, had the best prices and best lobsters around.
Overall, this house is highly recommended for those looking to take what everything Maine has to offer.
This was an outstanding spot for our vacation. Beautifully situated, clean, and comfortable house. Very helpful owner, clear communication, and just all around great stay. Can't say anything but good about our experience. Thanks!
