Now the new home of Green Mtn. Falconry! Once the country estate and studio of famed painter and fly fishing enthusiast Ogden Pleissner, Boorn Brook Farm has been restored to its original splendor. Situated on 54 acres of open meadows and old apple orchards with stunning views, Boorn Brook Farm is protected by Lye Brook National Forest, yet within the town limits of Manchester Center.
The French inspired barn, built in 1820 has wide-plank floors, hand-hewn beams, soaring ceilings, stone fireplaces and New England charm. Perfect for a romantic getaway, a country vacation for a small family or a quiet retreat to nature, Boorn Brook Farm is the quintessential Vermont experience!
In the summer, take falconry lessons on site, swim in the spring-fed pond with a beach, play tennis on the private court, hike on the private trails or in the bordering Lye Brook Wilderness, fish in the brook, or simply relax in one of the hammocks. In the winter, skate on the pond, sled on the hill, snowshoe or cross country ski on the back trails, downhill ski or snowboard at nearby Stratton or Bromley Mountains. Return home to build a roaring fire in the stone fireplace, bake some bread in the stone bread oven, play a game of pool, sip some hot chocolate and then watch the sun set behind Equinox Mountain from the hot tub, right outside your master bedroom!
Children and adults alike will also enjoy our farm pets, Lola the Brown Swiss Cow, old Ender the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and our new adorable goats, Pan and Axle!
I own the local movie theatre, so your movies are free when you stay on the farm!
Shelly purchased this barn in 1999
Because once you get here, you won't want to leave! I wrote down our fantasy list of features I wanted in a property and was stunned to find it all! I wanted a white house with a porch, a red barn, mountain views, meadows, a pond, a brook, sledding hill, stone walls, hiking trails, close to skiing...and all of it in town! Living here is like living in a postcard!
Boorn Brook Farm is very secluded, yet right in Manchester. This is also my home. I cater to couples and small families. No large groups - don't even ask! I strive to provide a relaxing, peaceful and homey retreat for all of my guests!
All of the below comments are from the Boorn Brook Farm guestbook which has
a permanent home in our barn! We simply copied them to this website for

My husband, teenage son, and I visited BBF for a wonderful long weekend in June. The property was absolutely beautiful and exceeded our expectations. Our hosts, Jeff and Shelley, were attentive and welcoming from our first email inquiry through our stay. We appreciated the honey Jeff shared with us from his apiary. YUM! We loved daily visits with the goats, Lola the cow, and of course good old Ender. We enjoyed exploring all Manchester and the surrounding area had to offer inclufing fly fishing, falconry lessons and a delicious gourmet meal at the Silver Fork. Returning home to BBF for a game of pool or a tranquil star filled soak in the hot tub was a treat! We cannot wait to return one day!
This was an absolutely beautiful property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Jeff and Ender were so welcoming and helped make our stay really memorable. Ender (the Swiss Mountain Dog) was so dear, we didn't want to leave him. The property is the perfect location, close to town yet out in the beautiful countryside. We will definitely come back to this beautiful place.
we truly enjoyed our stay. It was better than advertised. The owners and the caretaker were wonderful
From the homemade coffee cake awaiting us on arrival to the warm hot tub in the snow to the roaring fireplace every night - this place does not disappoint.
Even though there was not enough snow for skiing, a long, beautiful hike around the large property, free admission to the movie theater and plenty of good shopping in Manchester kept us busy.
We absolutely LOVED our stay in the barn! The property is beyond gorgeous! Our family of 4 arrived for a 4-day weekend and we were so pleased with being lucky enough to find this beautiful home. The setting is perfect. You feel as though you are tucked far away, yet you are only about a mile from town (including outlets, golf courses and restaurants.) The master bedroom and bath were fabulous. The children's room, with 3 small twin beds, was fine for them to bunk in together. The second full bath which the kids used was lovely as well. The living space was WAY bigger than we anticipated. With one great room with TV and a second big room with pool table and plenty of games. (Seems like a great barn to entertain in!) The kitchen was wonderfully stocked with more dishes, cookware than most rentals and we were even welcomed with a basket of Vermont goodies - including pancake mix, chocolate, chips, etc....such a perfect touch!! We were all in love with Ender, the swiss mountain dog, as well as the cow and goat which were so sweet and added even more Vermont allure to the property as we strolled around with our morning coffee. In addition, the kids were kept occupied by hiking right from the house, playing tennis on the tennis court and exploring around the pond. There was always something for them to be doing! Heaven. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was so, so friendly and welcoming - she made you want to live her life in that beautiful setting! We would definitely recommend this property. I always try to think of one thing that could make a rental better.....that's a hard one here, but I will say that there is not a cleaning service so you are responsible for that. The addition of a cleaning service would be my only recommended change here if I had to say anything. Oh.....and I wish we could have stayed longer!!
As a family of 5 travelling all the way from Sydney Australia, we couldn't believe that the barn was even better than depicted on the website. If we could give this property 6 stars we would. It was just a magical place to spend the Xmas week, where the owners have thought of everything to make your stay just perfect. We had snow on arrival and went on some wonderful walks on the property. Our kids fell in love with Ender the dog who became a member of our family for the week. We cooked some fabulous meals in the kitchen, including the wood fired oven and the hot tub outside surrounded by snow was just magical. Shelly and Jeff the owners were great to deal with and Gayle, the caretaker helped us with everything we needed and gave us some great tips about the local area including the local produce markets. We can't say enough positive things about this place and hope one day to return.
