My husband and I enjoyed 2 weeks of heaven in this lovely home. Walk to the beach or relax on the spacious decks that surround the house. Waking up every morning to the sunrise and sitting on the deck at dusk admiring the beautiful gardens in the yard. Very clean and well stocked rental. Owners were friendly and accommodating but non-intrustive. The lovely vases of fresh cut flowers in each room upon arrival was a nice surprise. Would absolutely recommend this rental to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway.
Our family, with two young boys (7 & 8 yrs) thoroughly enjoyed this house and location. The gardens are spectacular and you can easily watch the hummingbirds flit around all day. Perfectly appointed beach house - all that you need plus beach chairs, umbrella and fantastic outdoor shower! Our kids loved the library of vintage movies including Dracula, Frankenstein and more! Many books to choose from as well. Walking distance to beach and more. We had a great time and so thrilled we found this house and owners! Also found the best pizza ever in Matunuck at La Strada down near the beach!
This is the second time we have rented this charming, welcoming, cozy and perfect Matunuck beach house. We have rented several other houses, and this is our favorite. The whole feel of the house is one of peace and serenity. You can spend the entire morning on the front porch with a view of the salt marsh and the rabbits, and the entire afternoon on the upstairs deck. The beach is close by, but staying at home is just as good. We highly recommend this house, and Liz Carpenter, the owner, is courteous and helpful and a pleasure.

Your home proved to be a wonderful respite and haven from our usually hectic life as restaurant owners. Soothing colors and furnishings, wonderful wildlife, awesome gardens and flowers, the peaceful marshland sanctuary along with the Matunuck vibe = perfection ! Thank you for your hospitality and all the touches that made our stay so relaxing.
We stayed here for the first time for a week in August, and absolutely loved this home. It is a lovely beach cottage - very well maintained and clean with breathtaking views of a marshland and a gorgeous garden maintained by the owner.
When we arrived the owner had vases of fresh flowers from the garden all over the house, and everything was in working order. The house is down a small dirt road so it's very quiet, and the front of the house (complete with wraparound porch) overlooks a marsh so it's incredibly peaceful. There was construction on a house across the street about midway through the week which was a bit loud, but I assume that will wrap up by next summer.
The house has good amenities - grill, beach toys for kids, a fully stocked kitchen as far as cooking utensils go - and is only a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. The beach is expensive to park ($20/day) so plan to walk there unless you want to pay, it really is an easy walk though. There's also an ice cream shop right next to the entrance to the beach and a corner market for food staples.
The owner was great. She called to check in after we arrived and to make sure everything was ok, and we felt like she was available if we needed to reach her. We're already planning a trip back next summer, this home is a find!
My family visits Matunuck and this wonderful little cottage in particular every year. Although I live out of state now, I grew up in Rhode Island and know the Matunuck community. Take it from a native Rhode Islander, this cottage is ideally placed; quiet, and borders a gorgeous wildlife marsh and the owner's perennial gardens. The town beach is a 10 minute walk. The bigger and very popular state beach is a 10 minute bike ride via beach roadways. Matunuck is a quaint little beach community and has remained unchanged for generations. Upon arrival you will find an extremely clean and welcoming cottage. The owners take great pride in welcoming guests and providing for comfort. The upstairs master suite with queen bed, bath and deck is a welcoming respite for parents. Two bedrooms downstairs with a shared bath give privacy to two children. As is typical of these types of cottages, the downstairs is an open floor plan - dining, family/TV and kitchen area together. A full laundry is also provided, as is a very convenient outdoor private shower. The wrap-around porch with its lush and carefully tended potted plants, overlook the marsh and gardens. We have spent many hours birdwatching, reading and napping there. Visitors are close to ferry service to Block Island (a tourist must!), Wakefield with its wonderful restaurants, the fishing village of Galilee, and 35 min. from Newport. Allow us to encourage your stay, despite the fact that we wish we could keep this secret to ourselves!! Leslie M., South Carolina
