Overview

Akumal Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This is the Akumal Condo you have been looking for IF........

• You need some sun, fun, and relaxation in beautiful Akumal, Mexico

• You love to snorkel/scuba dive in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean

• You need an affordable, clean, newer place to stay

• You want to be just steps away from the beach and a wonderful covered swimming pool with a view of the Caribbean or the new terrace pool in the bright Mexican sunshine

• You want to be off the main road, but within walking distance of attractions, restaurants, and the beach

* Wi-Fi wireless Internet is included.

This beautiful two-bedroom, two-bathroom Condominium is located in a tropical garden setting in north Akumal. It will comfortably sleep 4 people. An additional guest would be accepted, but that person would have to sleep on the couch. There is an additional charge of $30/night for any persons staying in the condo in excess of 4 people. The condo is on the second floor and is equipped with air-conditioned bedrooms, ceiling fans in all rooms, daily maid service, and a fully-equipped kitchen.

There are three wonderful snorkeling areas within walking distance. Half-Moon Bay is located directly in front of the condo complex. Yal-Ku Lagoon is a short two blocks away. This lagoon is often equated to swimming in an aquarium. And, don't forget the beautiful reef at Akumal Bay which is located about a mile south of the complex. If you have a vehicle or take a taxi, there are countless other snorkeling spots available and a wonderful selection of scuba diving shops if you care to dive the Caribbean or the extensive fresh water caverns in the Riviera Maya.

The famous sandy/coral beaches and great snorkeling of Half Moon Bay are just down the steps and through an open breezeway.

The unit is bright and light with an open design and high ceilings. From the main entry you will access the open living and dining area. The living area includes comfortable seating and access to a private terrace that overlooks the tropical gardens. The dining area includes a large table with seating for six.

The completely furnished kitchen includes bottled drinking water, cookware, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, oven/stove, utensils, dishes and, of course, a blender for the margaritas. The daily maid service allows you to enjoy yourself while the unit is cleaned up, beds made, and dishes washed!

The master bedroom has a king-size bed with private balcony - a perfect place to string the hammock and relax. The second bedroom has two twin-size beds and its own private balcony.

Each morning the singing of tropical birds awaken you. During the day you can enjoy the crystal clear waters full of colorful fish, tour ancient Mayan ruins, shop, or just relax on the beach with a good book. In the evenings, you can walk to one of the several excellent restaurants for a romantic dinner on the beach.

This condo is located in the courtyard. While it is not beachfront it does have an ocean view from the private bedroom terraces and Half-Moon Bay is easily reached by walking through an open breezeway. There you will have free use of the beach, sun shelters, lounge chairs, and fresh-water showers.

This condominium is ready and waiting for you..... Please note that the condo is not available to walk-ins. We are not a hotel, this is our home and we hope to retire to it soon!

About Peggy

We love to snorkel, but I tend to get sea-sick on boats. After searching for years for areas with great snorkeling available from shore we spent another few years finding the perfect condo for us. We hope to retire in Akumal and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

Perfect spot for our family

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the condo March 30 - April 7, 2016. We are a family of 5 with 3 boys 9 and under. This was our first time renting through VRBO and our first time travelling to Mexico. We had a fabulous time - and would recommend it to everyone.

Owners - Peggy was super helpful with answers to our questions before we booked and with maps and lots of information after we booked. While we were there, they were doing some work on the septic system in an adjacent building - Peggy was right on top of it, notifying us that it was going on and asked us to let her know if it interfered with our vacation (which it didn't).

Condo amenities - the condo itself was well equipped with everything we needed - basic spices for cooking, along with pots, pans, dishes, bottled water, etc.; beach towels and shower towels; wifi; bedding (although we brought a small blow-up mattress for our youngest child, so he could sleep in the same room as his brothers, rather than on the couch), etc.. The pools were lots of fun and my boys spent at least some of every day in them. For the most part, we had the pools to ourselves, which was also very nice. The grounds are kept very neat and tidy and everyone was friendly and helpful.

Location - close enough to the amenities in Akumal (grocery, dive shop, souvenirs, etc.), but far enough away that we didn't have to deal with the crowds of people coming in to see the turtles (unless we were going to see them ourselves - but go early or late in the day ... a lot less people). Plus, able to walk 2 minutes to Yal-Ku for snorkelling (a huge highlight!!). Also easy driving distance to Aktun Chen (kids LOVED the zip lining, cave walk and cenote); Coba and Tulum; Xel-Ha (although we didn't go - too much other stuff to see and do). Finally, I can't talk about the location, without mentioning the snorkeling right outside your door. Fantastic! My kids were new to snorkeling, but had no problems exploring the reefs in Half Moon Bay. Not as many fish as Yal-Ku, but lots of very interesting coral formations and other see creatures. The rocky shore is also lots of fun to explore.

Overall, we had a fantastic time and would not hesitate in coming back!!

We loved the unit. It is so bright and open. So much bigger than the pictures suggest.

  • 4 of 5

Our trip was so relaxing. The north Akumal unit was lovely and quiet. It had everything we needed. I loved that we could sleep with the windows and sliders open and hear the waves. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace with the view of the palm trees.

We enjoyed snorkeling in Half Moon Bay and Yalku.

We could walk to one of our favorite restaurants, La Buena Vita.

It was spring break , so the area was quite busy, but it was very peaceful at La Iguana.

Also, thanks for having a flashlight. The power was out the night we arrived. Luckily it was quickly restored.

We would definitely consider staying here again.

Thanks.

Nice property

  • 4 of 5

We found the property to be well maintained and a nice open concept. The one thing this property does that others did not is it provides a lot of the essentials needed like spices and paper products. We did not have any problems with the condo while there. It is not hard to find. The one thing to consider is the road in and out of Akumal is slow with many "topes" speed bumps so the going is slow.

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Mike and Peggy's condo in Akumal from 12/27/14- 01/03/15. We have rented several times through VRBO and have always had great luck, but Peggy was the most thorough owner we have ever rented through. She provides such wonderful information, we really had a good idea of what we wanted to do and see before we even arrived. The snorkeling off the beach in half moon bay was incredible. My 14 year old son met another 14 year old from Sweden and they spent endless hours snorkeling the reef and playing in the pools. We went to Yal- Ku lagoon too, but we really didn't need to. My 12 year old love "hanging out" on the hammock by the pool. We snorkeled in Akumal Bay and saw numerous sea turtles. That was an amazing experience. The condo was beautiful and clean. There is a TV but only for videos, which was only an issue for my 12 year old who tends to like some down time out of the sun. There are so many great things to do in the area you don't need a TV. The condo is located at the far end of the road which is very bumpy and has lots of Topes (speed bumps) which was a little rough with our rental car but I liked the secluded/private spot. It felt very safe and the property management people and Silvia were extremely helpful and flexible with our schedules. The weather was beautiful and we hope to return to this little piece of heaven.

Terrific hosts, wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 5 days with 2 young kids (2 years, 7 years) in early July 2013. What the reviews for this properly uniformly and accurately state is that Peggy is an amazing host and correspondent. We have rented other VRBO properties before, but never has the host gone so out of her way to provide information and make us feel welcome. The condo is terrific -- fully equipped with whatever you're likely to need (including, unexpectedly, many beach and pool toys). The location is very good -- if you have a car. Otherwise it's a long dusty walk to Akumal Bay, where the majority of the restaurants and services are. With a car, however, this is no issue. A few tips -- The market in the center of town is 3-4x what you'll pay at the Chedraui or other large supermarket, so avoid shopping there if you can. Also, Half Moon Bay is beautiful but not particularly rewarding snorkeling. Same for the lagoon, though if your expectations aren't high (or if you're beginning snorkelers) it's definitely more than adequate. This is really a condo to chill out in -- Don't go expecting the Great Barrier Reef or a Playa Del Carmen-style nightlife and you'll be very very pleased. We had a great stay and would love to return. We certainly will be recommending the condo to friends in the future.

Light and Airy well-appointed condo

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this condo for 2 glorious months. The condo is spacious and gets excellent natural light and ocean breezes. The kitchen is well-outfitted and excellent to work in, so the condo works very well for people who want to eat-in a good deal of the time.

Owners were excellent to work with; sent lots of advance information, provide detailed tips and recommendations in a book in the condo, and were always available for On-site management is also very responsive and the cleaning service is outstanding--the place is spotless!

Although the listing photos are thorough I was still pleasantly surprised to find out how spacious and light-filled the apartment really was.

Location on the far north end of Half Moon bay works well for easy access to Yal Kul Lagoon as well as snorkeling in front of property (although it can be rough and is best for experienced snorkelers). Easy bike ride (bike rentals available) into the town of Akumal Playa (or across the highway) to Akumal Pueblo. We survived very well without a rental car most of the time. Three restaurants within very close walking distance of the condo, with others about 2 KM away. I recommend hidden gem Que Onda for homemade pasta and usually a nightly fresh seafood option (it's around the corner on a jungle lot near the lagoon). Happy Hour down the street at La Buena Vida (with swings rather than bar stools) from 5-7 nightly is a great deal with wonderful ocean view.

Excellent internet connection and built-in desk with a keyhole view to the bay makes this place ideal for a working vacation.

The small swimming pools on property are great for kids, doing water aerobics, or taking a quick dip to cool off. There were always chairs available at beach and/or pool for sunning or relaxing outdoors.

This condo is not technically ocean front, but has direct ocean access and has ocean and/or beautiful pool views from 3 sides of the building. Highly recommend!
