Enjoy spectacular sea views and sunsets from the terrace of 3 bedroom house

The house is suited for real “amateurs” only, who are looking for a unique holiday within a totally private and natural surrounding. The property is 100 meters above sea level, extends over 500 squared meters of terraced vineyards and stands right at the top of the village of Monesteroli.

Monesteroli is a small and quiet village in the wildest part the 5 Terre National Park.

The track to Monesteroli is surrounded by vineyards, mortarless walls, the Meditteranean Scrub with its intense fragrance and its different breath-taking panoramas.

The main staircase between the sky and the sea leads to the house perched over the sea in a unique landscape, declared UNESCO World Heritage.

From the house is possible to enjoy the trasparency of an uncontaminated cliff sea in which diving, going snorkeling and sunbathing. The house has a 180 degrees wiew and it is possible, in the clear weather days, to see Elba, Capraia and Gorgona islands, Corsica and the west coast line of Liguria.

Holiday in Monesteroli is a sensorial experience, full of intense emotions.

Trekking, easy and slow life in contact with nature, relax and wonderful sunsets sight enjoying local wines and foods are an antidote to city life.

Everything in an house equipped to make the stay easy, enjoyable and unforgettable.

The house is arranged over 2 floors. Kitchen, dining area, bathroom and one double bedroom are on the ground floor while two additional double bedrooms and the lounge are located on the first floor. The lounge area enjoys a large chimney. The property provides great outside living space including a paved terrace all along the house, a large dining table, BBQ area and an external shower.

Crystal-clear waters are only 10 min away at the bottom of a magnificent stone path perched on the ridge of the hill.

Driving directions: The village of Monesteroli is reachable by a 20 min walk after leaving your car at the bottom of Via Tramonti, a private road which takes you from Località Colle del Telegrafo into a beautiful bush slowly down towards the sea. From La Spezia you take the coastal road that leads to the Cinque Terre and just before the first tunnel take a right at the junction towards Biassa. Go through this picturesque village and keep going up the road for approx. 5 km till you reach the top of the hill. Take the first road on the left (Via Tramonti) just before the restaurant Colle del Telegrafo and keep going down till the road ends where you will park on the road side. The trackway which leads to Monesteroli starts on the right-hand side of the last sharp bend of the road (trackway n. 4b).

About Patrizia Bevilacqua

Casa dell’Olivo was a family adventure: my brother Bruno discovered it during a hike in 1995 and got all of us involved to turn the semi-dilapidated building into a special place. My brother Gigi, an architect, designed a spacious and spare interior in harmony with its former configuration as a vintner’s house/cellar. The patriarch, Arturo, 75 at the time, supervised the remodeling and the delivery of materials by 210 helicopter trips, spending his nights in a sleeping bag more or less under the stars. And I, Patrizia, endeavored to make it cozy and functional while preserving as much as possible of the old furnishings and tools. It was a great adventure, much harder than we expected, but the beauty of the view we glimpse when we open the old wodden gate never ceases to amaze and delight us.

Patrizia Bevilacqua purchased this cottage in 1995

Why Patrizia Bevilacqua chose La Spezia province

Why we chose Monesteroli - La Spezia.

For my father, Arturo, this was a chance to revisit the places of his wartime youth, when he was stationed in La Spezia with the navy and patrolled the coast in motor torpedo boats. The landscape hasn’t changed much since then. He stopped walking the path and the Scala Granda at 83, and now, at 93, keeps track of the changes at Monesteroli through our stories and photos.

Bruno is the unmatched mind and tireless arm who deals with all the problems that can arise in such an isolated place. For him this was an opportunity to successfully try his hand as vintner, mason, electrician, carpenter, and more, and reward his labors with a good BBQ, a glass of excellent Sciacchetrà and his favorite music under the stars.

For me, a psychologist who lives and works in Milan, Monesteroli is a place for the soul where I can gaze at the sea and find serenity communing with nature. But it’s also a beauty farm for the walks and the swims around the Montonao's rock.

For all of us it’s such a special and magical place that it would be a shame not to share it with the rest of the world.

What makes this cottage unique

Casa dell’Olivo is a place for people who enjoy walking, listening to the sea, the wind and the cicadas instead of the sounds of automobiles, and counting stars instead of restaurants and discos. To be immersed in silence with only the people you choose to be with around you in the midst of Cinque Terre, even in the heart of summer, is priceless and amazing!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Extraordinaire !!!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

A great place for a individual vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week during June 2014 at the Casa dell' Olivo in Monesteroli. The location and the view is absolutely unique and fantastic.

The house is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay and had lots of space for the four of us.

The house inside is a very nice mixture of simplicity and elegance. And it is very cozy.

But you certainly will spend the most time outside of the house on the terrace.

There are a lot of wonderful places for breakfast and diner, for relaxing in the sun or shadow or sitting and reading or just looking at the sea or at the sunset. Also the vegetation around is very beautiful.

The environment of the house is absolutely quiet and peaceful and in the middle of nature.

This is most evident if you have spent a day in one of the main villages of Cinque Terre and come back to the Casa.

We used to spend every other day at the house (except visiting the next village Campiglia to have a coffee and buy some groceries which is a nice tour anyway).

The village Monesteroli consists of a few houses only. It is possible to go down a trail with stairs to the sea where we had wonderful clear water to swim and dive.

If you think about staying at Casa dell Olivo you should be in a average good shape (the stairs are something special. But you will get used to them soon, as my wife and my sister have shown. Today we already miss them). Also you should definitely listen to Patrizias suggestion about luggage. The general description provided at the site is very exact and reading it gives a real good impression of the property and environment.

Patrizia was very kind to us and we say thank you for everything! We will never forget this great vacation and we certainly will come back to this wonderful place.

Lovely and amazing

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, spacious, clean and well-appointed house, breathtaking (indeed!) views, amazing sunsets, friendly and helpful owners. We loved our hikes throughout Cinque Terre, long swims in the sea by the house between the cliffs and spiaggia dei Nacche' and the beauty and tranquility of the place. A memorable vacation and definitely worth crossing the ocean for. Highly recommended.

Arturo, Bruno e Patrizia

The house can only be reached by a 30 minutes walk along a beautiful track way across terraced vineyards which terminates in a steep path of stone steps leading to the sea. It is located 100 meters above the sea on the edge of a terraced cliff between Riomaggiore and Portovenere, close to a group of houses known as Monesteroli village, in the most unspoiled part of the Cinque Terre National Park.

Monesteroli was built through the centuries by the inhabitants of Biassa, an ancient village on the Northwestern hills surrounding the gulf of La Spezia. Biassa is the main doorway to the Cinque Terre and to the several pathways crossing the hillside some of which are accessible directly from the property. Together with the small villages of Schiara and Fossola, Monesteroli is part of Tramonti ('Sunsets'), the coastal area left of Riomaggiore.

Biassa is 5 km away from the house and is reachable by a 30 min walk plus 10 min by car. It can be reached from either La Spezia or Riomaggiore (both 10 km away) by car or bus.

The village of Campiglia can also be reached by a 45 minutes walk from the house and enjoys various restaurants.

Electricity within the property is provided by solar panels connected to batteries. Cooking facilities, fridge/freezer and hot water are gas operated. Emergency power is supplied by a power-generator operated with petrol in case of reduced battery voltage. Any appliance of 50 Watts or more can only be operated through the power generator.
