Beachfront with Private Pool

Bedrooms 3
Space 950 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms , 2 baths, sleeps 6 fully air conditioned house

The rare thing about Barefoot Bungalow is the privacy. You don't share a pool or the deck. You have the house, pool, yard and deck completely to yourself. Our Bungalow is located on the tranquil island of Vieques. Our three bedroom, 2 bath home is tastefully furnished in a relaxed, comfortable bungalow style. The property offers an array of amenities, including a pool for your use only, a deck overlooking the ocean, BBQ, washer and dryer, hammock and, of course, the beautiful blue sea a few steps from your doorstep. You can hear the crashing waves from your bedroom and still be surrounded by the tranquility of your own yard. Wake up in the morning and sit outside on your private patio, looking out over the waves at the islands of Culebra, Puerto Rico and on a clear day, St. Thomas, while you sip your coffee. Listen to the sounds of the surf breaking in the evening as the sun sets while you stroll in the sand looking for shells and sea glass, or lie peacefully swinging in the hammock.

Lounge by Pool: What can be more luxurious and refreshing than a dip in your own pool after a long day at the beach? Not much. Lounge in the sun, enjoy the lush tropical foliage, and maybe read a good book. Sit under the fountain and let the water splash over you. Watch the sea gulls and pelicans fly overhead and spot the iguana family that comes to feed on the hibiscus and sun on the wall. Take a night time dip and float on your back and gaze up at the stars.

Easy Living: Two of the things that our guests comment on most frequently are the great night's sleep they experience in our comfortable beds, and the luxurious sheets and towels we provide in abundance. We strive hard to make your experience the vacation you want it to be with a fully equipped kitchen (to help you prepare your fresh-caught seafood), air conditioning in all the rooms, and an outside dining area to enjoy the breeze off the ocean.

About Michael Gordon

My husband, Mike grew up in the quiet town of Houlton, Maine but his family vacationed each year at Wells Beach, Maine. I grew up in Stratford, Connecticut where the beach was always 10 minutes away. We met in San Antonio, while we were each pursuing our individual careers. We both love the ocean and can't ever get enough of it.

Michael Gordon purchased this house in 2009

Why Michael Gordon chose Vieques Island

Vieques has something to offer all beach lovers. I like quiet waters to wade in and Media Luna on Vieques is perfect for that. Mike likes to sit under the palms, drink an adult beverage while he listens to the waves, and Red Beach is perfect for that. My daughter and son-in-law love to snorkel and Green Beach offers hours of snorkeling adventures. The people of Vieques are great! The Malecon in Esperanza is fun!

What makes this house unique

The unique benefits of our bungalow are: 1) You have the whole house to yourself. 2) with a pool all to yourself, 3) on the beach 4) air conditioned through out 5) with a view of the ocean from the master bedroom and dining area 6)for less than $250 per night.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family had an amazing time on Vieques and at Casita Del Sol y Mar. The island itself was gorgeous. The beaches were pristine. The villa had everything we needed and more (towels, chairs, grills, kitchen supplies, etc.). The place was clean and spacious. We were located right on the Atlantic Ocean. There was even beautiful fringe coral located steps away from the villa that we snorkeled on multiple occasions. The coral and fish were extremely colorful. The beach has a nice sandy area to swim too. We even had our own private pool at the villa equipped with an outdoor shower. It was nice to be able to wash off after a day at the beach. The vacation was better than I ever expected it to be. The owners are amazing. They contacted us while on the island and made sure we had everything we needed. We had no problems arriving at the villa either. The onsite management was great. We definitely want to come back again!

We will definitely be back!!

  • 5 of 5

We have been to Vieques many times and without a doubt this was our most favorite place to stay! The Beachfront Bungalow had everything we could want or need for a fantastically relaxing getaway. The home was well equipped with all of the comforts of home and you couldn't ask for a more peaceful and relaxing setting right on the beach. We loved every second of our time there! Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!

Beautiful ocean front setting, not really usable for swimming - would not recommend for young kids

  • 3 of 5

My husband, me and our two young kids (ages 6 and 8) stayed at the bungalow for one week from 3/18-3/25/17 on our first trip to Vieques. Unfortunately, we never met Aurelio. When we arrived, he was checking someone else in and so he sent Enid to assist.

Pool was great and kids appreciated the use of the inner tubes and noodles. The pool area felt very private which was lovely. The house setting is beautiful - hearing the waves and waking up to the ocean front views is great but given the windy conditions on the north shore and the rocky nature of the shoreline we found the beach to be a great place for a walk and to look for shells and other treasures (which we did almost daily) but largely unswimmable. As a strong swimmer, even I did not feel comfortable going in, let alone putting my kids in even with water shoes.

As others have commented, the beds were very comfortable and the linens and towels (bath and beach) plentiful and appreciated. One note about the master bath, neither me nor my husband used the master stall shower as the shower head was quite low (he's 6'2" and he would have had to hunch down and I might have needed to also at 5'6"). So we all used the second bathroom shower. If folks are interested in doing a good bit of cooking while at the house, be prepared to hand wash the dishes. The property description notes, there is no dishwasher (and we did not presume otherwise) but the reality sets in as you wash away. I appreciated the plastic glasses for use by the pool and by the kids. The kitchen tools/accessories could be refreshed a bit as could much of the home. Photos are accurate to a degree - they highlight the property's best features. I suspect they may have been taken a few yrs ago.

Washer and dryer- it's outside so if it's raining you'll get wet if you choose to use it. We used it almost every day. Very key for us!

IMPERATIVE to have a 4WD to navigate the driveway to get back to the house. The road is horrible and towards the end of the week I was counting down to how many more times we would traverse it.

I would encourage Gail and Michael to refresh the binder as it feels a bit out of date.

Proximity to southern refuge beaches was good - about 20 min depending how far out you went. Esperanza was a bit further but we rode horses with Esperanza Riding and biobay with Isl. Adventures (because of kids) - horses = great, biobay disappointing glow. Green Beach great snorkeling!

Love that the little casa is on the water

  • 5 of 5

We love this little house for our one-week vacation, we had four adults and two children and it worked out perfectly. The house is right on the water see you can hear the ocean which is great… The other side of the island you can't be right on the water. The air conditioning was awesome everything was there that we would need.

Stunning Retreat in Vieques PR

  • 5 of 5

I had the honor of staying at this stunning home in Vieques. I cannot say enough about the accomadations of this lovely home. The house setting is Ocean front with a private pool set at the rear of the bongalow. After a day at the most beautiful beaches I have had the pleasure to see. Coming home to a Pina colata and a swim in the pool could not be more decadent.

This home is fully stocked with beach chairs, beach towels, coolers, and a beach bag.

The beds were very comfortable with luxury linens and towels. A TV in the living area and master bedroom. We cook, and the house has everything you need to make breakfast or dinner.

Aureillo, the caretaker of the home was extremely helpful and accommodating. Because we were hit by a storm during our time at the island, ferry service was shut down and flights were limited. We were grateful that Micheal and Gail allowed us residents for a extra night. Aureillo, was kind enough to purchase our tickets for the Ferry for the following day which gave me peace of mind.

Certainly, I would have enjoyed being stranded on this beautiful island with all the comforts of home. However, work and responsibilities of everyday life does have its benefits. The benefits being, $$$ to return to paradise and time away in this comfortable home.

I cannot thank Micheal and Gail enough for allowing us to stay when we could not get off the Island.

Finding accommodation was difficult since many were stranded as well as us. They immediately were concerned and only had our safety in mind.

PS. The storm we experienced I'm told is very rare for this lsland. So don't allow this to change your plans. It was just windy with choppy waters and some rain. Other then that the weather was beautiful. Understand ferry service only shuts down for safety concerns.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We love the Bungalow and are so grateful when our guests enjoy it as much as we do. The beach, the pool, pina coladas certainly do feel decadent which is a great change after hard work at home. We are glad you were able to stay with us the extra day. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness.

Loved our stay at Barefoot Bungalow!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Barefoot Bungalow very much! The beach house has that perfect combination of the "lived in but loved" feeling (I mean that in a really good way). It had everything we needed and more...comfy beds, lots of clean towels, lovely yard, pool and beach, gorgeous view, hot water, laundry, and beach stuff(chairs, umbrella, coolers, etc)! Real plates, glasses, and silverware in the kitchen and enough pots and pans, knives and utensils to prepare our daily meals when we weren't eating out.

We loved the location. The neighborhood, just outside of Isabel II, was nice and quiet during our visit. Close to town (supermarkets and restaurants) and easy to all the beaches (rent a jeep!). It was our first time to Vieques, so we did a lot of exploring and recon and we liked it so much we plan to go back again as soon as we can!

Michael and Gail where SO nice and helpful when we booked our stay and promptly answered all the questions I had that came up in the planning process. And their property manager, Aurelio, was great too! Our arrival was delayed, but he stayed in touch, met us at the last ferry of the night AND brought us to the grocery store on the way to the house! Mucho gracias!!

It was a fantastic trip and the perfect home away from home! Thank you to Michael and Gail and Aurelio!! We'll be back!

Owner's Response: "Lived in but loved" is the perfect way to describe Barefoot Bungalow. I wish I had thought of those words. Mike, Aurelio and I work very hard to make Barefoot Bungalow a place that reflects the love we have for the house and the island of Vieques. Each time we visit, I try to find ways to make it a little more of a home that our guests will enjoy. It is wonderful when we hear from guests that enjoy the bungalow as much as we do. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us at the bungalow.

Love this place, love Vieques

  • 5 of 5

Had a couple issues with toilet leaking, washer making a lot of noise, and fridge leaking. But Aurelio got people right out to take care of them for us, he's a great guy - even did an extra pick up at the airport for some of party upon our arrival. Though he was thinking he'd need to call a tech for the fridge, maybe it wasn't use to be being opened as frequently. But I thought you'd like to know about it. We just kept a VQS beach towel in front of it, so nobody slipped. We love the location of your place and the wonderful view. It's one of few rental's that has wash clothes, lots of pot and pans. Wish we would have discovered it back in 2007. Actually snorkeled out front of the house - wonderful.

Casita del Sol y Mar is located just a mile east of the town of Isabel II on one of Bravos de Bostons' little known reef-fringed, sandy beaches. Just a short stroll west on the beach will lead you to a sandy spot where guests can enjoy snorkeling and swimming in the warm inviting ocean. Walking to the east will take you on a relaxing stroll along the sea coast where you can search for sea glass and seashells and spot the occasional horse cooling off in the mangroves. Other activities are the shops, markets and restaurants in Isabel II. Or, the more adventurous may want to visit the bioluminescent bay, rent bikes, go kayaking, take a hike or arrange for a snorkeling, scuba diving or sports fishing expedition.
