About The Owner

Ray and Sue have lived in Caton for 17 yrs, and saw the exciting potential when purchasing the property which is now, The Quarters !

Ray is originally from Manchester, Sue has moved around more, but also originates from the North of England. Our love of the north is clearly demonstrated by the number of maps and books which we have for guests to borrow; we are both keen walkers, and can assist with walks of different levels, and some beautiful vistas await you,

We both work part time, so have plenty of time to ensure that the apartment is spick and span for your arrival. Rays background is in teaching, Sue has a Learning disability nursing background, and has a lot of experience working with people with an ASC.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2004

Why The Owner chose Lancaster district

The Quarters is a flexible space, and suitable for all, visiting friends and family, or taking a break.

A warm welcome awaits you, we greet with a bottle of wine, milk tea and coffee. Our expert local knowledge is an added bonus, we can point you in the direction of great vistas and eateries !

Open for twelve years, we have welcomed guests from 24 different countries, and from all over the UK.

We also have plenty of maps and walking, and cycling books for you to borrow, to enhance your visit.

Bought as offices, complete refurbishment has ensured that the inclusive nature of The Quarters was in place from the very beginning.

Extra width doors, all sockets and switches at a metre high, and an excellent bathroom which is spacious and cosy, show a subtle but effective specification for wheelchair users.

The huge windows were retained making a light airy, and comfortable holiday apartment, complimented by a private garden with a stream flowing down the side, ideal for relaxing or entertaining.

Explore this diverse area- City Coast Countryside, its all here !

What makes this apartment unique

The Quarters is unique due to its fantastic accessibility specification, and we also accept pets happily at no extra charge.

In a central but tranquil village location, down a quiet lane with a garden with a stream, and no parking issues- we have a large private carpark.

The lune valley in which the Quarters is situated is flat, with good cycle paths which take you to Lancaster, and beyond to Glasson dock, or Morecambe, completely off road.

Sue and Ray live close by ! You need another casserole dish ? You will have one immediately.

Its situation close to Lancaster gives amazing transport possibilities- there are trains from Lancaster directly to Manchester airport; the Quarters is only five minutes from Junction 34 of the M6, making it a lovely base for friends and family reunions.

This is an unspoilt area of great diversity, City, Coast, and Countryside, its all here !

Great apartment, lovely area, friendly.

  • 5 of 5

We (2 adults, 3 children aged 10, 12, 14 and dog) found the apartment very welcoming, with loads of local info to browse through on arrival. The local info was very useful and accurate which we used a lot. The village has some lovely walks and wished we could have stayed longer to explore more. The location of the apartment is excellent for those who want to visit the Lakes for a relaxing time or a more active time in Blackpool of which we did both! We were impressed with the cleanliness of the apartment and that it had all the home comforts, and more, e.g welcoming provisions and the beds all ready made up. The Ship Pub we highly reccommend for meals out and also The Royal Oak (about 4 miles away). A very family orientated base to organise your holiday from. Will certainly try to go there again.

Roomy, comfortable and clean

  • 4 of 5

Wishing to visit relatives in the area we were looking for a place to stay. This ticked all the boxes for us when viewing it online. When we arrived it was great to see it exceeded our expectations. The owners have put a lot of effort into making guests feel welcome and the little touches (like providing detergent for the washing machine) made our stay even better. The next time we are planning to be in the area we will look to stay here again.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your lovely, and honest review. We are happy to have exceeded your expectations ! We do strive to provide the smaller items such as cling film and foil etc. This ensures guests can travel light, and enjoy being in a beautiful part of England. Due to our close proximity to good road and rail links, many of our guests are visiting friends or relatives in the area, and return repeatedly. Again thank you for taking the time to comment, and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

Owner's Response: We value feedback from our clients so we can continue to strive to improve the service we provide. We are baffled by this customer review on several accounts. Our property is advertised in the title as “NEAR LANCASTER, HIGH QUALITY GROUND FLOOR APARTMENT” This particular customers’ review (Cathy, Troy and Morley the Labrador) in our visitors’ book is as follows, verbatim: “Thank you very much for our provisions supplied much appreciated. Ideal location, very cosy, weather great, the walk areas are fantastic. Great wee apartment. Thank you very much for our stay. Cathy & Troy & Morley.” As is the case with practically all self-catering apartments we do make sure the key is always accessible on arrival, whatever time, so it removes the pressure from the client to arrive at any specific time. As in this particular visit the clients’ could not specify their time of arrival. We live next door, so 9 out of 10 times we are available to greet the clients and show them the apartment. If there is a delay, or clients want to make a day of it during their travel to the apartment they can arrive during the night if they wish to! Because we live next door we are often around to help with any requests from visitors to help make their stay as comfortable as possible. On at least two occasions we spoke to the reviewers and asked if everything was OK. We pride ourselves on a high level of care providing a complimentary bottle of wine, tea, coffee, milk, and other consumables on arrival. As you can see from the other reviewers, the comments in our visitors book (including this reviewers comments), and our occupancy rate, that we are surprised at this isolated negative review. We have many return visitors, some of which are on their seventh visit.

What a gem!!

  • 5 of 5

So glad that we found this beautiful little place. Would have loved to stay longer than we did, but they were booked, not surprisingly! From my first communication to inquire about availability, all the way through to the end of our stay, Sue was fantastic. 4 The Croft is in a great location.....a short drive to Lancaster, but away from the hustle and bustle in the quaint village of Caton. No worries if you don't have a car, as the local bus makes a stop a very short distance from the apartment. You can easily get into Lancaster (15 min), as well as the rest of Cumbria and Lancashire via the bus. If staying for 7 days or longer, you can't go wrong with the 7 day Megarider Gold pass. Only 26GBP, and you can ride any bus in Cumbria/Lancashire. A great way to see not only the local area, but all of the Lake District as well. The apartment was wonderful and had everything we needed. We felt like we were living in our own home. It was well kept and clean. Thank You Sue and Ray! We will definitely be returning, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review for us. One of the benefits of running a holiday business is that we get to meet such lovely people, from all over the world, and you were lovely, so we are glad that you found us ! We have had visitors from 21 countries, we worked this out last week, and will soon having been trading for ten years. It was great that you used the local buses, you can see a lot more of the landscape from a bus, its good for the environment, and you never have to pay to park, and as you point out it is a good reasonable deal for seven days of bus travel in two large Counties of England. Our booking rate is very high at the moment, which is great - so the prices are still the same.
