About The Owner

IM A BARBER IN TRAVERSE CITY. MY WIFE AND I WANTED TO OWN A COTTAGE ON THE WATER SO OUR GRAND KIDS WOULD COME AND VISIT US IN THE SUMMER.,FROM WHERE EVER THEY MIGHT AVENTUALLY LIVE. I GREW UP ON THE WATER AND FISHED AND SKIED ALL OF MY TEENAGE YEARS. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE BEING ON THE LAKE THAT GIVES ME AND MY WIFE MORE PEACE AND SATISFACTION. GOD IS A WONDERFUL CREATOR AND THE LAKE AND ALL ITS WONDER REMINDS US OF THAT ALWAYS.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1989

Why The Owner chose Traverse City

WE LIVED IN TRAVERSE CITY FOR YEARS AND FINALY DECIDED TO BUY PROPERTY ON A LAKE NEAR US BEFORE THE VALUE OF LAKE PROPERTY MADE IT IMPOSSABLE. WE HAD NEVER BEEN ON SPIDER LAKE AND DEDCIDED TO TAKE A DRIVE ONE WEEKEND. I COULD NOT BELEIVE THAT WE HAD NEVER BEEN ON THIS LAKE AND IT WAS SO CLOSE. IT'S LIKE BEING IN THE UPPER PENINSULA WITH OUT DRIVING FOR HOURS AND GOING OVER THE BRIDGE TO GET THERE. IT'S THAT UP NORTH FEELING WITH OUT THE LONG TRIP. THE LAKE IS BEAUTIFUL AND FISHING IS GREAT, THE PEOPLE ARE GREAT ON THE LAKE AND WE FELL IN LOVE. ALL THAT AND CLOSE TO HOME. WE DID THE RIGHT THING AS YOU KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPEND TO LAKE PROPERTY THE LAST TWENTY YEARS AND YES OUR GRAND CHILDREN LOVE IT TOO

What makes this cottage unique

THERE IS AN ISLAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR COTTAGE WITH A FANTASTIC SAND BAR AND THE ISLAND IS ABOUT AN ACRE WITH TREES AND IT IS HOME TO BIRDS DUCKS AND ONCE IN A WHILE A PAIR OF EAGLE'S OUR DAUGHTER NAMED OUR COTTAGE SCHLEIICHERS ISLE- LUV- U

Perfect for Enjoying Outdoor Activities and Traverse Area

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our 13- and 10-year-old sons and we all loved it. The house and "up north" decor was perfect for us, with plenty of space for everyone -- in fact the boys enjoyed "camping" together in the lower level. The pontoon boat worked out great for fishing and swimming. We caught quite a few nice fish and a lot of small ones. The boys also enjoyed the paddle boats. The setting is beautiful and was perfect for a campfire by the lake each night. The house is a short drive to Traverse City. The owners were very easy to work with.

Great Lake front property in Traverse City

  • 5 of 5

Joe and Helen were helpful and courteous hosts from the start. We had a previous experience on Homeaway with a different owner that was very negative. As a result, we were initially gun-shy about booking. Our minds were put to ease when we talked to Joe personally. It was obvious that he was honest and flexible, and was very willing to help his guests in any way possible. In spite of visiting during a late winter storm, we had a lovely stay on Spider Lake. The cottage easily accommodated my husband and I, our three children, my parents and my 97-year old grandmother. It was so relaxing, and the view was fabulous! Joe and Helen left us fresh roses and a bottle of wine, which was a a nice touch of hospitality. They addressed any concerns we had almost immediately, and were quick in returning our deposit check. I would absolutely like to stay again, but maybe in the summer next time, when we could enjoy the pontoon boat and the paddle boats. Thank you Joe and Helen!

Relaxing Lake House Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Joe and Helen were fantastic and the house was great. My son's favorite part was definitely the pontoon boat. After his first ride, he insisted we take it out on the water several times every day. There is an island directly across from the house where you can pull up the boat and swim. The balcony was a great place for the whole family to eat together and the fire pit on the waterfront was our preferred place to relax each night.

Cozy Vacation spot for our fishing trip

  • 5 of 5

joe and Helen are really easy to work with. We arrived to wine and roses after after a 7 1/2 hour drive. Love the northern decor and the fact that the island is right in front of cabin....all adults for fishing trip. Five of us felt comfortable. 3 baths came in handy. The fireplace really warmed up the room on a50 degree night and kitchen well equipped. It was quiet and neighbors seemed friendly but no worries about bothering anyone....plenty of space between houses. Our favorite was the boat. We have rented houses in this area for over 20'years and werent expecting such a well maintained boat! No swimming off the beach area very mucky. But island is lots of fun....suggestion......shade for upper window next to bed! Window air worked great as you said.....we hope to return again! Ps. Did we say my brother caught a 32" pike! We left him there!

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay at Joe and Helen's cottage. The kids loved the paddle boats and row boat. The best part of their vacation was the island right across the bay where they could go and swim and wade in the water to look for rocks. We loved being able to relax with them thier as well. Having the boat included with the cabin was key as well and made our trip even better.

My only suggestion for improvement would be to have a larger kitchen table so all can sit around and play a game together. a real bed in the basement would have been nicer as well.

The house was beautiful and had all we needed. The fishing on the lake was EXCELLENT on this lake. We are used to going to Wisconsin and the fishing was 110% better than it is there. The lake is so clean and clear you can see the fish jump on your line 6 feet below the water and the lake has a number of nice bays and is large enough to get lost but still feels small with all the coves and inlets....A great trip, thanks.

Totally Awesome vacation week!!!

  • 5 of 5

Joe and Helen have an absolutely fantastic property!

I never had a more relaxing, fun, and straightforward vacation.

My trip from Seattle to the property was very easy - I love Cherry Airport.

It is very easy access to downtown restaurants and vineyards - yeah!!

The boat and lake were fantastic, warm, inviting, and the nearby island offered an opportunity to meet some locals that were very friendly.

My wife and I have never had a more relaxing time.

I can't say enough, the cottage was large, the deck was fabulous, the weather was wonderful...... I will be back! Thank You!! Len and Rita
