The home is centered on a 320-acre cattle ranch in the foothills of the Elkhorn Ridge of the Blue Mountains. The house is at 4,200 ft elevation and the ridge rises to 9,000 ft. Two small streams flow through the property where you can fish or wade or 'swim' in a deep spot. Hiking, riding, snowmobiling, mountain biking, sledding, hunting and cross country skiing are as close as the front door while Baker and Union counties offer countless more opportunities. Anthony Lakes ski area is famous for powder snow and is only is 19 miles away. Water skiing and sail boarding are nearby.
Not datedThe clans of McL…, McN…& W… gathered for a feast & friendship. As Spring is upon us we enjoyed music, wine & the laughter of nine children & 8 adults. Skiing was good, hiking was great and plans were made to repeat the experience. Thanks to our hosts for everything.
We stayed for four night with a total of three families. Plenty of room for everybody. The kids played all day outside on hikes, looking for gold, and riding bikes. The adults did nothing but eat and drink. Can not wait for next year.
I would have rated excellent except the refrigerator was not working when we arrived (was fixed ASAP), and the women in our group found some dead flys in the bathtub. Having said this...folks this a working cattle ranch i.e. Flys are to be expected. The place is well equipped and very comfortable. Had a wonderful family reunion.
My family - myself, wife, three children, two grandchildren, and my sister - traveled to Haines to visit our mother's grave in Baker City. The house was perfect to fit us all, and we enjoyed the combination of forest, creek, and working cattle ranch. We sat late at night and watched a lightning storm erupt all around us through the picture windows that surround the kitchen and great room. We also got a kick out of watching the rancher cut hay, then bale it and take it out with his truck. We couldn't have asked for a better location. I definitely recommend this fine combination of home and ranch.
We had the opportunity to stay at the Ranch for three days / two nights. The ranch sits right in the foothills, where we saw at least 9 deer. The property is very relaxing, and the ranch house is very comfortable, with a fully stocked kitchen. The owner was very quick at responding to emails and questions, and I can't wait for my next stay at the Ranch.
We ventured to the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center a short 30 minute drive away, and enjoyed lunch in Downtown Baker City, OR. Haines also has some very nice City Parks that we enjoyed. Finally, we went to the Anthony Lakes recreational area, and enjoyed a short 1-2 mile hike to a lake that was secluded and only had two other vistors. I would highly recommend this property for rental!
The Chandler Ranch was a perfect place for our family get together. It is very well laid out for a family - there were seven in our group. It is extremely maintained and clean. The owner was very helpful in answering any of our questions. The property also has fabulous views of the hills and fields surrounding the house - peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed hikes in the nearby Anthony Lakes area, horseback riding, fishing, and the Fourth of July activities in nearby Haines. We would definitely rent again!
Stayed at the Orville- Chandler Ranch recently with friends. The nicely appointed home is in very quiet and beautiful location with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. Minutes to the local ski area- Anthony Lakes and the historic town of Baker.
The owners have thought of everything that a guest could want, including snow sleds.
Enjoyed our visit and planning to return next year.
Haines, population 350, is 8-miles distant and Baker City, population 10,000, is 20-miles. Baker Valley is now devoted to agriculture and was a thriving gold mining center with numerous ghost towns to explore. The Oregon Trail passed through the valley below the ranch and the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is about 25-miles away. Deer, elk, coyote, turkey, bear and other wild animals live on the ranch and can be seen from the house. The ranch includes both forest and open fields. During the summer cattle graze just outside of the yard. This home was designed and built for vacations, and was completed in January 2003. We have tried to include everything to make your stay comfortable. The nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away so privacy and quiet is assured.
