The view was absolutely gorgeous. It is quite far off the main road, so it might be tricky to get there in the winter.
They provide bedding, towels, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. There is a dishwasher, BBQ, coffee maker, salt, pepper, and toilet paper.
They have a hot tub and pool, but they are not in working order, and don't appear to have been working for a long time. They have a screened porch which is really nice since the bugs are insanely bad.
They have a tv that plays DVDs. There is no cable despite there being a dish on the roof. And there is no wifi even though there is a modem and a paper on the fridge giving you the login and password. They have another smaller cabin right beside this one. So even though its secluded you have very close neighbors that share a driveway and fire pit.
The fog horn sounds at night, which didn't bother me, but my friends found it hard to sleep through.
The nearest grocery store is about 40 minutes away. And a nice beach is probably about an hour away. The beach here is more to look at rather than suntanning and swimming.
The cabin was quite clean and they have a washing machine. There is no dryer, but a clothes line.
Away from it all
My favorite part of our stay was the location/view. It was nice sitting on the screened in porch or living room and just soaking in the beautiful view. I would have given a higher star rating; except that I feel there is room for improvement at this location. For instance, I had to wash the majority of the items in the kitchen before I used them because they weren't clean. I loved having the use of washing machine; but to get to the clothesline; the weeds and bugs could have been handled. Also, there is a pool but it is not in service and it's not covered...traveling with my toddler made it tough because I had to lock both doors on the patio to make sure he didn't wander out to the open pool filled with rain water. Also, the path down to the beach could have been cut back; you have to duck through branches to get through. Also, be prepared that no amount of bug spray will keep away the horse flies when you are down by the water...it was a bummer; I really wanted to relax at the beach and ended up sitting on the screened deck.
Well what can I say can't please everyone, please just read the reviews, as far as the flies I can't change mother nature. Also there are two paths to the beach and are well accessible . If your traveling with a toddler I suggest you come prepared, and yes there is a pool that has gates. I do apologies for not being able to get to the clothes line from the house exit but we had a wind storm recently that caught the wind and had to secure it till the new door arrives. Dishes are clean on every turnaround and there is a dishwasher in the kitchen , if in doubt run them through a cycle. We have had all excellent reviews from our guests and many repeat visitors.
Awesome view and house. Private Location
What a beautiful spot for a house. It's far enough away to be private but still close to everything. You will enjoy it!!! We took the Bird Island Boat Tour and Found the house from the water. Then we enjoyed watching the Puffin boats coming and going. Didn't really find a great restaurant but didn't try them all. House has everything you need. Beautiful home.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
The property location was wonderfully quiet and the view was fabulous. The interior was comfortable and lovely and it had all the amenities that we needed. We did have a bit of trouble running the dishwasher at first and I would suggest packing your own sharp knives but other than that the kitchen was well outfitted. We were very sad to leave and would definitely rent this property again.
Very nice property at a great price.
Listing description was accurate and pictures were true. Property was clean and request taken care of promptly. Beautiful setting and very quiet. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property. A nice surprise when we got there was the addition of WIFI.
We just came home (I wanted to stay) from our trip to Cape Breton NS. We stayed for 3 nights in this beautiful home by the sea. We loved the home and the time to unwind. The views were spectacular! We went down to the beach, but it was too cool to swim. Had a couple of rainy days, but this is a great place to be in the middle of everything. Drove the Cabot Trail one day, and the next day went to Sydney and Port Morien to see where my Grandmother was born & where my G Grandparents are buried. Also went to the Fortress of Louisbourg the same day.
Woke on our last day to a beautiful sunrise coming in the windows!
The house was clean, well stocked, and even has a washing machine which we didn't take advantage of because it was raining and couldn't hang the clothes out to dry.
The owner stopped by on our first night to make sure we were settled and if we needed anything.
My only "complaint" (and it does not reflect on this place), is that there aren't any gas stations close by. My advise is to make sure you have a full tank before you get there!
Great place for 2 couples as we were, as well as families with kids.
We would definitely come back here in the future!
Located on a private beach, you can walk for miles and not see anybody. From Cape Dauphin you can do all your day trips around the island. Down the road there is Kelly's wharf where you can fish mackerel, buy fresh lobster, join in with the cottagers for a bonfire. Close by there is Bird Island boat tours, boat charters and whale watching, world-class golf course (Bell Bay), Highlands National Park, hiking trails, Alexander Graham Bell Museum and historic fortress of Louisbourg. It is 50 minutes from Sydney, 30 minutes to shopping area in North Sydney, 25 minutes to the tourist town of Baddeck.
