Amazing Cottage with a Spectacular View

  • 5 of 5

Ricardo is an amazing host! We were given a tour of the property when we first arrived and he had bread, jams, cheese and fruit waiting for us.

The cottage is perfect for a couple who are looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway. We enjoyed evenings in the front room with a fire roaring (it was chilly at night in March) and breakfast in the sun room outside with the sun shining and overlooking the ocean.

The cottage provided a perfect starting point for excursions on the east side of the Island.

Ricardo sat with us and gave us some history of the Island and helped us plan each day we were there. With his help we were able to maximize each day and visit many places and enjoy spectacular views!

We would recommend this cottage hands down! This place made out trip! Ricardo was a wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable person.

The Azores archipelago, synonymous with pearls lost in the ocean, is located in the North Atlantic about 1. 500 km west of Lisbon. It consists of nine islands of volcanic origin and has an approximate total area of 2 333 km2.

These islands have great tranquility places, lined with stunning scenery, where the blue of the sea and hydrangeas and green of the fields and mountains come together differently from island to island. Its ponds, unique beauty, contain mystical charms that are associated secular legends. Its museums, churches and palaces guard treasures of art and history and its traditions, festivals, handicrafts and gastronomy remain alive, being a legacy of five centuries of settlement.

The Northeast County in particular is the best kept treasure of S. Island Miguel. Its intact nature, with an extensive patch of laurel forest where dwells the Priolo, the only bird in the world, the landscapes breathtaking, with the background sea of an intense blue and traditions of its people, constituting a refuge for excellence for those seeking a paradise lost.

São Pedro de Nordestinho, former headquarters of the former parish Nordestinho, was elevated to parish status on July 16, 2002.

The Church of St. Peter dates from century principles. XVI and was privately owned Sebastiao Pereira. At the time King Sebastian was already in the public domain. Its main structure was benefited in the century. XVIII for what is now one of the three oldest parish churches of the municipality.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Tears, grazing and resting on a flat overlooking the sea, has a history of five centuries, but the last reconstruction dates back to 1895.

According to legend, after the famous earthquake of 1522, the Virgin Mary reportedly appeared to a young shepherd, proclaiming that Ponta Delgada would be buffeted by the scourge of plague and asking him to build the chapel. The afflicted population raised a temple to the Virgin Mary in the invocation of Senhora do Pranto. The small temple has subsisted there over the years and continues to be the subject of pilgrimages.
