Compass Cottage lies in the heart of the village and is nearby the local pub, The Fisherman’s Return, a 300 year old establishment offering local ales, good food and facilities for families, including a large safe garden. Historic Norwich lies 20 miles to the West with its fine cathedral, ancient cobbled streets and great shops. Only 25 miles north is the North Norfolk Coast and the well known towns of Cromer, Sheringham and Wells next the Sea and ten miles south lies Great Yarmouth for family entertainment, amusements and all that is traditional for a lively English seaside resort.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a wonderful holiday cottage, we have stayed at many holiday properties big & small, the owners have gone to a lot of trouble to make sure everything is provided, even down to little things like cotton wool balls in bathroom and spare light bulbs. This cottage is delightful from the time you enter the cosy lounge.

Not far from beach so wonderful for the dogs, they had a great time. Good Beach cafe with sumptuous cakes! Winterton is a lovely village, lots of thatched cottages and roses round the doors. Although in a quiet village not far from the rest of the world!

Extremely disappointing holiday property not worth the money. Missed out on a holiday this year.

  • 1 of 5

We have stayed in many dog friendly cottages over the years, but found this property was very very disappointing. I appreciate the cottage is meant to be authentic an oldy worldy, but we found it quite tired looking an quite poor in its cleanliness. The furniture especially the sofa was very smelly and dirty, as was the fridge. In fact the whole property was so extremely odorous, doggy an of a very poor standard that it affected my partner's asthma an we could not stay any longer than the weekend. We were extremely downhearted as we never got our yearly Norfolk holiday an wasted a lot of money on a property not worthy.

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a very relaxing holiday at Admiral. The cottage is full of period charm and brought an extra dimension to the holiday. It's like time travel but with all mod cons!

Very clean throughout and with a well equipped and spotless kitchen we felt work stress melt away.

Both bedrooms having ensuite bathrooms made life easier, and they were immaculate. The bathrobes were a welcome touch of luxury, as was the delicious and thoughtful welcome pack.

Winterton is such a pretty, quiet and friendly village. It is on the edge of the broads and perfect for walks short or long and for day trips out.

Can't wait to return next year.

Full of Charm & Character!

  • 5 of 5

I have just arrived back from Admiral Cottage where I stayed for a week, joined by friends.

It is a lovely old property, full of charm and character.

Inside the cottage was very clean with a homely feel and it had all you could need for self catering. The bedrooms both have their own bathrooms which was good.

Outside there was parking and a sunny front garden plus a private garden at the rear which was completely enclosed, so very safe for dogs and/or children.

The location in the heart of the village near the pub, shops and fish & chip shop etc was great. It is also only a very short walk from the cottage to the dunes that lead onto a fabulous sandy beach with a cafe which should be in the good food guide!

If you like nature, there is loads to see close by in the broads and along the coast. If you want tackyness and slot machines - look elsewhere!

I highly recommend the cottage to stay in and I shall definitely be back again!

Absolutely dreadful

  • 1 of 5

Very shabby interior, the place was dirty the carpets and flooring needs replacing, beds were so old I couldn't walk after sleeping just one night on it. The toilets and kitchen was filthy and the place reeked of cigarettes. Had to book elsewhere and didn't get a refund. This place is not as you would expect for the price.
