We spent Easter 2014 in this unit and really enjoyed it. We arrived by ferry from Naples and after taking the bus to the main square, we walked to the property no problem. After spending 5 days walking and exploring Sorrento, we were convinced we had picked the best part of town to stay in. Close to shopping and restaurants but on the quiet end of the street that felt more like we were staying among the locals. Short jaunt to local shops selling cheese made on site, fresh bread, produce, local wine and other groceries. We were only a party of two and this unit is quite large so we had lots of space. We spent a lot of downtime on the deck including watching the procession at 3am at the church across the street. We can’t speak for the food served at the café in the lemon grove on the same property but we did relax there with good cappuccinos. Daily cleaning service was a pleasant surprise. We would stay there again!
Great location, easy walk to all of Sorento's sights and transportation.
Clean, and bright with user friendly kitchen. The roof top patio is a great place to start and end the day. Customer friendly staff. Great apartment for 4 or more.
I have been to Sorrento many times as I love this place, his art, history, food and the coast. Casa Alberto was just perfect for my holiday, located in the historical center of Sorrento but in a very quiet a nice area, in few steps you can reach the most beautiful attraction of the town. I rented also a car as I know very well the surrounding of Sorrento and I would like to go around by myself to see all the beauty of this location and the parking at few meters from casa Alberto helped out very much as in Sorrento is very difficult to find parking space. The house it self is very nice and in a very typical building that seems to bring you to the Roman Empire, but with a modern touch.
I usually have very good experiences with apartment rentals. Unfortunately, this one was the exception.
The apartment: The apartment was large and clean and it had a washing machine and free wifi. (The pictures accurately reflect what it looks like.) Unfortunately those are about the only good things I can say about it. There really wasn't a living area, only a very uncomfortable, hard single bed facing a desk with a small TV on it, which didn't work. The beds were like sleeping on stone slabs and the oven also didn't work, which is a problem if you choose an apartment so you can have some relaxing time and meals at home. In their defense, I must say that when we complained about it, they offered to bake our pizza in their restaurant oven. Which leads me to the property...
The property: What we didn't get from reading the ad is that this isn't a private villa but rather an apartment hotel. There are several units on 3 floors. Which means, of course, not much privacy. The yard is beautiful, but you're sharing it with all the guests, as well as the patrons of the public restaurant on the patio, (I don't remember seeing this in the ad, although when I look now it does say there's a restaurant) which specializes in children's parties. Oh, and did I mention that there's a techno disco in the basement??? The bass reverberated through the walls until midnight. Forget relaxing or sleeping -- except for a brief window between midnight and 3:30AM. Because, in addition to the noise from the disco and restaurant, the site is located directly across the street from a hospital -- which has trash pickup around 3:30AM, every night. No, you cannot keep the windows open -- ever. We were there in June. It was very warm. I really like fresh air when I sleep, so on top of the hard beds, it was stuffy in the room. And did I mention the noise from the restaurant and disco? Oh, yes, I did.
The neighborhood: I usually like to be right in the heart of an old city in Italy, but I didn't realize just how touristy Sorrento is (my bad). It would have been preferable to be a few blocks outside the city center in a quieter, more residential neighborhood. (The area surrounding the city center is all residential and easy to walk.) The narrow alleyways in the city center were swarming with wall-to-wall shopping tourists from about 10AM when the cruise ships disembarked until evening when they all went back to the ships, making it crowded, noisy and difficult to get to or from our apartment.
