Actually ON the famous WW2 Invasion Beach Utah Beach house has views across to Point du Hoc & Grandcamp Maisy with Omaha Beach, Arromanches & the Mulberry harbor, Gold, Juno, Sword, plus The American Cemetery all in close proximity 40 minutes away, Pegasus Bridge the furthest point from us is just an hour away, Bayeux is very close by. In the other direction are the beautiful fishing ports of St Vaast La Hougue & Cherbourg. Mont St Michel just over an hour away.
Ste Mere Eglise & Carentan are the 2 closest towns to Utah Beach with plenty supermarkets, shops, tourist attractions including museums and restaurants.
PLUS our Normandy Utah Beach house is set in the heart of The Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectares with 144 villages and towns within this Park in Normandy. Utah Beach is located on the eastern side of the peninsular is set in a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres 500 meters from our house. The bird watching is incredible especially when the migratory birds pass over.
The area is in stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing. A haven for photographers & those wanting to learn more about photography with the special light here.
The East coast being slightly wilder than the west coast is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty we are presently under going the transition in to a UNESCO site.
It is possible to have a day out visiting the Channel Islands, Jersey & Guernsey as there are ferries across on a regular daily basis from Granville, Portbail or Barneville Carteret. these ports on the west coast less than an hour away from us.
This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. Trotting Horses are trained everyday on Utah beach, further up the coast is Honfleur, Deauville & Le Harve under 2 hours away and you cross the fabulous Pont du Normandie on the way.
Giverney Monet's garden takes just over 2 hours to get to & is worth a visit.
Lots to do and see: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachting, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do!
Yet in the summer the beach is paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or a busy day with the family on the beach, beach combing, shell fish gathering when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded.
With the bird sanctuary just a few hundred meters away we enjoy an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks. If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of harbor seals.
Huge mussels and oysters beds right opposite our house destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally.
Gourmet dining & spectacular sunrises: The house is on the beach – the other houses around are mainly holiday homes so are only opened up 2 weeks of the year – it is an incredibly tranquil and peaceful spot, but not completely isolated...we are also lucky enough to have some splendid restaurants around us, we keep a list in the house & do try them out ourselves!
The museum which is undergoing huge renovation project to be finished for June 2012 attracts in excess of 500,000 visitors per year, however, with our house tucked up in the dunes you won’t be aware of any activity at all! Near the museum is Café Roosevelt.
Half way between Utah Beach and Ste Marie du Mont is a former farm that has been converted into an equestrian center with hotel and a restaurant.
The nearest village 4 kms away, Saint Marie du Mont which has the most beautiful church, 2 boulangeries, mini mart, bars and restaurants. St Vaast La Hougue 20 minutes away is a UNESCO site with the whole harbor surrounded by restaurants.
We positively welcome dogs, our vet that we have used for the past 13 years speaks excellent English to help with passports etc.
We were working & living just outside London before taking the decision to leave our careers & move here to Normandy in 2001, we had no plans to start vacation rentals...it just sort of happened! For me it is the answer to my dreams as my first career was in the Hotel & Catering Industry training for 15 years as a Hotel Manager...I always yearned for my own hotel...so this is as good as it gets! 15 years later on from our move to France, we are thoroughly enjoying running our business, we are passionate about this hidden area of France and offer more than just a vacation rental, more than happy to share with you where to go, what to see, how to get there, we've struck a deal with a local dealership to hire cars - devised a WW2 tour which we will give you at no charge and we'll make reservations for you at restaurants. We now have 4 rental vacation properties, beach, town or country with us no more than 10 minutes away. We are based in Houesville our little farm where we have the 2 couple only units and keep our Llamas, Alpacas, chickens and other creatures to include 3 nutty Jack Russell's and 7 or 8 cats (1 keeps going walkabout so we're not sure if he is our cat!).
Tansy Forster purchased this house in 2002
Utah Beach is unique, not only was it one of the historic WW2 Invasion beaches in 1944 it is beautiful with miles of sandy beaches, wild and not over constructed. Our house is built on a parcel of land the French Government sold off just after the war to raise funds...luckily only a small part of the coastline was sold therefore protecting the amazing dunes and wildlife...now no more construction can take place plus about to be given UNESCO status. On 1 side of us is the Utah Beach Museum & in the other direction a bird sanctuary covering 1,200 hectares...the bird life here during migration is truly wonderful...we even have harbour seals that pop up in the sea right in front of our house and dolphins have been spotted too.
We've been in this part of Normandy for over 15 years, we speak French & know the systems, spent our time constantly renovating and developing not only our Utah Beach house, a little town house in center of Sainte Marie du Mont & our home where we keep our Llamas & Alpacas 8 miles inland from the beach where we have 2 couple only units on our little farm.
As we too like to travel and plus prefer to book vacation rentals ourselves, over the years we have experienced the frustration of not finding things, being made to feel rules, pay large damage deposits & treated with 'that's your lot' attitude! We've taken from these experiences and would like to think we provide a welcoming service along with everything you could possibly wish for while on holiday - if it's not there tell us & we'll do our best! From hair driers to free WIFI throughout it should be there!
We do get a lot of repeat bookings and referrals... so we must be doing something right - we certainly hope so!
For me Utah Beach house is totally unique & when we stay there I always find myself on the beach (always as the only person to be seen for miles), still in my dressing gown with a cup of tea in my hand and our dogs having a ball...a wonderful way to start the day...
Dear Tansy and Mike,
After a wonderful stay last summer at your Utah Beach we would love to come back next summer with our family.
We would like to know if the Utah Beach House is available
The house comfortably accommodates up to 10 persons in charmingly furnished and very well maintained rooms, which make children of three and grandparents of 70 feel equally at home. The atmosphere throughout is exceptionally pleasant and harmonious, and contributed greatly to the well-being of all of us. Seated at the dining-table with glass all round us, we enjoyed both the comfort of the house and the indescribable and unimpeded view of the beach, the Channel and the horizon. After stepping out of the garden-door, it takes one three minutes, even with little children, to get onto the beach, in itself quite wonderdul with its fine sand for long walks and big sandcastles. Here and on the grass path, the dog owners could take a little more care of their pets' production. Shopping in the nearby supermarkets for the specialities of the region and collecting mussels from the water, we made good use of the well-equipped kitchen and had wonderful family meals - for the grandmother's enjoyment the dish-washer was a great help. Contact with the neighbours was easy and casual. Trips to Bayeux and Caen took less than a day each and added their unique attractions to the holiday experience. In recent years I have not slept as many hours as in this house.
It gives one the impression that its owners love it, which makes it easy to tell the children to take very good care of the nice things in it. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather all week long at the end of October.
I have expressed my enthusiasm to friends about the place and its possibilities. We look back on a perfect holiday.
The owners, Tansy and Mike are a delight. The property is very well located on Utah Beach. The area is quiet and you can walk directly on to the beach. The ensuite bathrooms are convenient. Everything was clean and well equiped. A perfect location for thise who want to be close to the historic sights of the area.
Great communication with the owners right from the start. Tansy and her husband have a great love for the area and helped us create wonderful day trips from their beautiful beach home. We would not have seen half as much without Tansy's assistance.
The listing is 100 percent accurate. The home is well appointed with almost anything a family could need for a perfect holiday. It is very clean and well cared for by the owners. They live close by so we found that comforting in case we had a concern or were to have needed anything.
We are already recommending this home to our friends and family. I wish we had booked a full two weeks as there really is that much to see in the area.
There are many markets nearby so we enjoyed being able to cook. There are also numerous museums nearby and plenty of restaurants if you prefer not to dine at home. People were friendly and the beach was just over a dune so less than a minute walk out the back gate.
Highly recommend this beautiful oasis to all looking to relax and take some time to enjoy all the history in the area.
We just spent a week at this wonderful house right on Utah Beach. There were 5 of us and the house was plenty big enough with room to spare. Everything was just as stated about the house. Tansy and Mike were the best people to work with, so helpful and proud of their beach house. The history of the area is just overwhelming. Walking on the beach each morning and seeing the horses being trained was a real treat. Our 8 year old granddaughter was in awe of everything. Thanks so much Tansy and Mike for sharing you beautiful beach home with us.
The beach house was wonderful. Having the beach so close by is such a dream. The house was comfortable and well equipped. We have 3 children and they just loved it. Tansy and Mike are very helpful and the "Tansy tour" is a must, we all loved the "Tansy Tour". The location of the house is fabulous, beach, supermarket, restaurants, museums everything is close-by. We will recommend the house to our friends and will come back! Thank you Mike and Tansy for sharing your house with us.
Truly a wonderful place to experience Normandy. The surrounding country side was beautiful. We used the house as our base for exploring WWII sites, markets and historic villages. The house was beautifully appointed, comfortable and immaculate. The house was right on the beach and provided a great place to end our " daily French adventure". The kitchen had everything we needed and more.
Every morning we started our day in the conservatory watching the sun rise and ended the day with a glass of wine in the conservatory. Truly a magical place!
Our hosts were actually the best part of our adventure. Tansy and Mike provided great advice about attractions and spoke English and French. They were so helpful in giving us hints about timing of arrival at sites-which helped tremendously in the enjoyment of our experience.
They also have 2 other properties that are wonderful.
If you want to have an awesome experience in Normandy. Tansy and Mike are the best hosts you could ask for. Check them out-you won't be disappointed
In the heart of American Sector of the WW2 June 6th 1944 Invasion Beaches actually ON Utah Beach with sea views.
Set in the heart of a conservation area of significant importance we are in the beautiful and stunning Parc Naturel Cotentin et du Bessin on UTAH BEACH. On one side of us to the right there is a bird sanctuary 500 yards from the house, on the left side 500 yards away is the memorial and museum for Utah Beach.
Our local village Ste Marie du Mont was the first village in France to be liberated on June 6th 1944.
Band of Brothers story featured around here for parts 2 & 3.
The 82nd & 101st airborne troops parachuted into the area with St Mere Eglise just 6 miles away.
Further up the coast the other invasion beaches Point du Hoc Arromanches, Mulberry Harbour, are all easy access and well worth a visit. The museums, memorials and information are superb with films in most museums, all of them are really worth visiting...we highly recommend the 360 degree cinema at Arromanches. There is so much to do here, not just the invasion beaches....Bayeux Tapestry, mont St Michel, Caen, St Vaast la Hougue & the Isle Tatihou, Barfleur where William the Conqueror (set sail from), Briquebec, St Saveur Vicompte & Valognes where castles exist from the 100 years war. We have Roman remains, the 1st stone built castle against the Vikings, Hitlers defenses in the Atlantic wall...it's all here!

Barneville Carteret An outstanding links course with undulating fairways, sand dunes, water hazards and narrow greens, this 9 hole course (soon to be developed to 18) benefits from outstanding views of the channel islands
