About Rich & Jess T
We are so thrilled to share our little piece of paradise with you! We first fell in love with Nosara after celebrating our honeymoon there and immediately began to find any reason to return. We love the people, the pristine jungle, the breathtaking beaches, and the world class surf.
Rich & Jess T purchased this House in 2017
Why Rich & Jess T chose Playa Guiones
From the first moment we saw El Santuario, we knew it was a one of a kind home. The house is private yet close to the beach and town. We enjoy the open air feeling of the home and feel it embodies the Costa Rican spirit that we love. The builder's attention to detail and respect of the surrounding jungle is evident. El Santuario allows guests to have the full Costa Rican experience.
What makes this House unique
The open air, Balinese style of the house is the ultimate indoor/outdoor living experience. While completely secure and safe, it allows guests to interact and enjoy this unique jungle paradise. Whether it's being greeted by the howler monkeys who travel along the tree line or taking a dip in the pool after a day at the beach, guests will enjoy rest and relaxation with all the amenities one would hope for. We truly believe it is a jungle sanctuary.

Best stay of our road-trip
We spent just under two weeks exploring the four corners and centre of Costa Rica in September 2019. We truly enjoyed this home and region.
We really wanted to experience an open-plan, outdoor-indoor kitchen and living area and this home did not disappoint. We especially enjoyed our evenings here. This style of home does come with its drawbacks -not a complaint, but just good to know. There is quite a lot of packing away and locking up to be done before heading out for a walk or at bedtime. The doors are all made of solid steel, so although they are painted in my favourite colour, I just didn't really love the task or the feeling - especially locking the steel bedroom door at night. It definitely made us feel safe, but also a bit imprisoned.
Although Rich and Jess did disclose the noise due to construction in the area after we booked - I think it is important to say that work really does begin right at 6:00 AM. I really didn't mind the hammering and sawing - we found people's work ethic quite admirable and everyone was respectful and friendly - it was more the work with steel and the beeping of reversing trucks that bothered us. These trucks have also torn the road-up pretty badly - so not the smoothest ride in and out the home. The noise did not last all day - quite sporadic actually, but it does make time by the pool less relaxing and you never knew when it will start /stop. The trucks had also presumably pulled down the cabling which meant we had no Wi-Fi for the first day. Kathy was great and got us a portable Wi-Fi - which we were able to use for the rest of our stay.
We really loved this home's vibe, the bathroom was the cleanest and most modern we experienced in CR and the bed was large and very comfortable. We really enjoyed the short 3-minute walk to the beach and strolling through the beautiful neighborhood looking at all the exquisite gardens and gate designs. Restaurants in the area are good and plentiful. Overall we really enjoyed this space and our stay in playa Guiones.
There is a ton of road construction all over Costa Rica - so travel takes longer than most guides suggest.
too short a stay...
The house is clean, a really interesting design and a perfect location. 2 adults and 4 children and we all loved our stay. Thank you for the hospitality!

There is an old adage. A simple person comes home after a hard day and says "what is for dinner?" A complex person comes home from a hard day and says "I don't know what to eat. I can make this, I can make that. So many choices." An enlightened person comes home from a hard day and says "what is for dinner?" The complex mind rebels. The simple mind knows no other. The enlightened mind, aware of it's preconditions, accepts.
El Santuario is aptly named. A retreat that will both amplify one's joys or provide an antidote for the tribulations within one that need calming.
A few reviews here have mentioned construction sounds. It should be noted the increasing development of Playa Guiones makes this somewhat unavoidable here or virtually any property you might stay in the vicinity. This is mitigated however. First, the jungle is a symphony. Beautifully so. As every creature big and small is in a perpetual state of song. The "treehouse" second floor has phenomenal acoustics in this regard, particularly near sunset. That is if you aren't lounging in the pool watching the Howler Monkeys eat in the trees but fifteen feet from you, or down at the beach experiencing sunsets that would make the great painter, JMW Turner weep in their glory.
The open air ambiance of El Santuario echoes and honors the Costa Rican spirit. For a hardened urban Angeleno I found it simply refreshing. The master bedroom has air conditioning should you seek refuge in that regard and we found the treehouse upstairs to be surprisingly cool with it's array of fans. The kitchen is stocked with utensils for cooking and the local markets have fruits, vegetables, meats, so on, of unquestionable quality. We found it to be quite gratifying to indulge in our culinary sensibilities here. Just remember to clean up before bedtime as the surrounding jungle will provide evidence that every creature wants to eat. Being conscious of this, we had no problems. There is much to do in the area if you need or wish. Gym? Check. Yoga? Check. Surf? Check. Snorkeling? Check. You get the picture. Recommend getting an ATV or bicycle to move about. Kathy will help with concierge. She was attentive to any needs we asked in facilitation of possibilities.
I would never call myself an enlightened man. My experience has taught me those who makes such claims want your money or a harem. But I will say I arrived at El Santuario a complex man and left saying "What's for dinner?"

Yoga and Surfing
My family had a wonderfully time in Nosara/Playa Guiones. The place was a pleasure, outdoor kitchen and plenty of space for our family of 5 to lounge. Owners very responsive to all our needs with in-town management. Good location to beach and activities and restaurants especially Beach Dog!

We hope to welcome you back to El Santuario in the future.

The house is near the south Guiones beach entrance "Bakers Beach" in the K Section. This is the quietest and most beautiful area on Playa Guiones!
