This is a magnificent villa with stunning sea views from downstairs, upstairs and the roof terrace - it is located right by the beach. It has gas central heating for use in winter. When used as one unit the upstairs lounge converts into an additional bedroom which means there are six bedrooms. If it is used by two families it can be completely separated in the stairwell as the apartments each have their own kitchen, lounge, shaded terraces and separate entrance.
The spacious downstairs lounge has an inside dining area, comfortable lounge seating and a great real fireplace with glass front. It has light from three sides and opens onto a shaded front terrace with views of the sea - even from the downstairs.
To the rear there is a large, private, shaded terrace with BBQ for outside dining and with ample space for using the deck-chairs to lie in the shade. This overlooks the pool and garden area and is adjacent to the granite-topped kitchen. There's a basket ball hoop by parking area.
Magnificently located Villa OR two Apartments with private pool overlooking the white sandy beach of Isla Canela and the Atlantic. When used as a villa the upstairs lounge can create a sixth bedroom. If rented as 2 apartments, the private pool can be shared by the two rental units. “Isla Canela” is the beach area of Ayamonte, The property has sea views from upstairs and downstairs lounges, with a breathtaking coastal panorama from the rooftop terrace; Portugal can be seen in the distance. Restaurants/cafes are 3mins walk, a 4* hotel and mini-market are close.
Ayamonte and The Algarve: The very pretty fishing port and town of Ayamonte on the Spanish/Portuguese border is lined with street cafes, restaurants, tapas bars and nice boutiques/shops - the freshly caught fish and seafood in the restaurants is a big draw to Spaniards from Sevilla, Cordoba, Badajoz, Madrid and even from the north of Spain. Other nearby places of interest are Huelva, from where Columbus first sailed to the New World; El Rocio, famous for the annual pilgrimage; and Andalucian capital Seville, home of tapas, flamenco, Moorish architecture and so much more. The eastern end of the Portuguese Algarve is also worth a day trip or two, it is a beautiful and largely unspoilt region with long sandy beaches, small fishing villages and attractive national parks. The historic town of Tavira is only 40 mins drive away and has a lovely square next to the river with a hilltop castle/gardens, churches and other ancient buildings. It is also lined with street cafes and restaurants.
Beaches and Activities: The beach is very safe and ideal for water sports, with a sandbank out to sea where “almejas” (mussels) can be fished without nets!. The beaches are highly prized by Spaniards, but still little known to foreigners. The long pristine sandy beaches provide a base from which to enjoy the watersports for which the area is famous - sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing. If you do not want to try it yourself, you can just relax on the beach and enjoy the skilful gymnastics of the kitesurfers and windsurfers. There are marinas at Isla Canela & Isla Cristina where sailors of all abilities can hire boats to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline.
For younger family members, on the road into Cartaya (approx 30 mins) there is the Kartodromo de Cartaya (Karting) open year round, and the very popular Aquopolis water park.
Cycling in and around Isla Canela is great for the whole family. There are cycle paths with no cars along the side of the beach, tracks into Ayamonte and a disused railway line.
Golf and Kite Surfing: Five excellent golf courses nearby: Isla Canela Golf, Costa Esuri Golf, Monte Rei, Castro Marim and Islantilla Golf Courses, winter home of the Swedish & Danish Golf Unions. Facilities include Driving Ranges, Putting & Chipping Greens, Practice Bunkers, Resident Golf Pros. Isla Canela also has 2 international standard bowling greens, tennis courts & football training areas. Other nearby courses are: El Rompido, Nuevo Portil and, just across the border in the eastern Algarve: Quinta de Cima and Quinta da Ria.
For the keen golfer the Costa de la Luz, Huelva and the Eastern Algarve are as yet “undiscovered' when compared to the western Algarve and Costa del Sol. Green fees are lower and the courses less crowded, making it much easier to get a start time. They are also some of best courses in all of Spain.
The beach is very highly rated by kite-surfers and there are good instructors. Part of the beach is reserved for kite-surfers/ sailors in summer.

Villa Canela was more than we expected. A beautiful comfortable spacious house with sea views and many terraces and a large pool overlooking a lovely beach . The area was charming with lots to do ,kitesurfing ,cycling ,atmospheric chiringuitos( beach cafes),an authentic Spanish town nearby,Ayamonte . Katharina , Mike , Alina,Sorin and co made us feel like part of the family . I look forward to returning and highly recommend Villa Canela.
We were in Villa Canela in mid August.
This is a nice area with pleasing surroundings and a beautiful and calm beach. The beach is right in front of the house, a street away from the house door.
The downstairs terrace facing the pool was the main place for everyone in the house. There is a table outside, stretch beds and a BBQ.
The pool was large enough to put up with a large family as we are. The pool was nice and treated.
The teenagers and the children passed a lot of time in the pool. The elder were chatting and playing cards at the table.
Everyone enjoyed the Villa...
The house is great, the kitchens were well equipped and it felt cosy to be there. It was clean and everything was there.
It is the third time we went back (two family's) to Villa Canella, and not without a reason. The place is just awesome. We travelled a lot and this villa is just on the right place. No kidding, it is only 30 meters from the beach. It is great to see the kids playing around in our own private pool, which is great to have. Lots of places around the house you can catch the sun (in the wind or just out the wind). The view from the room terrace is priceless, just sitting there and watch relaxed over the ocean makes a perfect holiday. The villa is perfect for two friended families and sleeps total of 12. Own parking place. We had one small issue with the pool, the water stopped pumping, which was not dramatic, but one phone call and within 5 minutes Kevin was at the villa fixing it (water was just a bit low, probably to many bombs and dives in teh water) .. PS Kevin's Andalusian's Bar , check it out, it is the place to pick up the keys. Good seafood for a even better price. If you want to enjoy a nice quite relaxed holiday, this is THE place to be.. Less then 50 minutes by car from Faro, Villa Canella highly recommended...
Isla Canela is the beach resort of the picturesque white Andalusian town of Ayamonte, originally a traditional Spanish fishing village with a market, old town and plazas. The prized Atlantic 'golden' sandy and clean beaches of Isla Canela can be accessed by a beautiful road causeway, with cycle path, through protected salt Marismas. The sea is very safe for children, you can walk for miles along the beach, there are great seafood restaurants and yacht marinas.
Isla Canela is in the Huelva district of Andalucia on the Costa de la Luz (Spanish Algarve) , 45 mins from Faro and 1hr from Seville, towns served by airlines such as EasyJet, Monarch, MyTravel, Ryanair, Jet2 and BA. Ayamonte is located by the Rio Guadiana which is a wide, tidal and exceptionally beautiful river. It separates Spain from the Portuguese Algarve; you can hire boats to explore it for miles. A quaint ferry can be taken to Portuguese Vila Real de San Antonio with its shopping streets and market.
Other Activities: Kite-surfing
Golf: There are four golf courses at a distance of less than 20 mins by car. They are all very different. Isla Canela Golf Course wends its way through beautiful coastal marismas and is 5 mins from Villa Canela. It has a picturesque restaurant, bar and competition bowling greens. Costa Esuri golf is on the east bank of the Guadiana River, good for a game, but without many surrounding services. Then just over the border are two Portuguese courses, Castro Marim near the old castle and the Jack Nicklaus course of Monte Rei, well known and a world-class golf destination. By staying at the beautiful beach of Isla Canela you really can combine exciting golf, including competitions, with a beach holiday. I have a large secure basement for storing golf bags/trolleys etc adjacent to the gated car parking area by the house. Also, I have negotiated REDUCED GREEN FEES for my clients.
At Monte Rei Jack Nicklaus designed his first of two 'Signature' Golf Courses in Portugal. There is highly qualified staff to ensure top quality playing surfaces, instruction and catering. I understand there is an award-winning Chef, Jaime Perez, in the Fine Dining Restaurant, 'Vistas'. The dining terraces offer superb views of the sea and mountains.
