Lovely, quirky, interesting house
My family enjoyed our stay. The house has a number of separate spaces giving all the privacy they wanted. The hot tub is delightful and the decks wonderful for morning coffee or dining. Would like to do this again. Trustee Chas Bicking was quite helpful and provided much information.
Great location, interesting layout, can use attention to upkeep
Pros: Great location, on a quiet street but central to Truro center and beaches. The house has an interesting design and you really get a feel for the tradition of Cape Cod modern, self-designed architecture. It has an interesting layout with rooms on three levels so great separation of space for families. The indoor hot tub is a nice treat to have.
Caveats: I don't think this house is for everyone. While it has a modern 70's-80's look, it does have a rustic feel that comes from the exposed post and beam construction (which is fine) but also the need for a thorough cleaning. It felt "cabin clean" but not "house clean" if that makes sense. There were cobwebs here and there when we arrived and the couch and rugs didn't look like they've been cleaned in quite a long time. We did have a big problem with mice running throughout the house, with a lot of droppings in kitchen when we arrived. I called the owner and he responded right away and had someone come with snap traps, (though disposing of and resetting new traps everyday wasn't something everyone in my family was exited about on vacation). Like I said, it's rustic and sounds like something they just needed to keep on top of (the owner mentioned that they don't usually come into the house). We did have an unannounced visit from one of the "trustees" of the property. Don't mind meeting owners at all but prefer a heads up and didn't help that it wasn't a particularly friendly visit from someone who didn't actually give us her name and only referred to herself by title. Minor issue in the scheme of things but left an off-putting impression for my family. I wish I could leave a more positive review. In the end, it is an interesting house in a great setting. I think the best thing would be to contact the owner ahead and have a good conversation to make sure the house is a good match for your family's vacationing preference. It was mixed for us but might very well work fine for someone else.
We call it 'our house' for a week a year!
This lovely home is located in a residential area of Truro, and is a short drive or bike ride to the expansive Longnook Beach. Provincetown and the National Seashore are close by offering beaches, bike paths, and local color. Nearby are other seaside towns to explore as well as a lighthouse, and areas for bird watching.
The house is well-equipped with quality cookware and utensils. The beds are comfortable as is the living room/sitting area. A private deck provides a place to relax, read, and enjoy the sun.
Restaurants are nearby although we prefer to head to the fish market up the highway, pick out a lobster from their tank, let them cook it, and then take it home to enjoy.
We have been staying a week in this house for several summers now and will continue to do so.
Wonderful house to stay at
We stayed at this house for the past 3 years. It is like a home away from home. We love the fireplaces an hot tub. It is a comfortable house to stay at. The owner is very easy to work with and we have never had any problems. The look out tower is awesome and with the wall of windows does make it feel like you are sitting under the stars at night. Looking forward to staying at the house again.
