Quawk Cottage is a perfect family vacation spot. Quawk has been our family vacation cottage since 1952. It is our home, and we regard our tenants as our guests. We hope you enjoy Quawk Cottage.
I grew up in New York City spending summers at Quawk Cottage on Martha's Vineyard. I married a Canadian. We live in Toronto, have three married children and four grandchildren. We all enjoy whatever time we can spend on the Vineyard.
Toby Condliffe purchased this cottage in 1952
I first came to the Vineyard as an eight year old when my parents rented Quawk Cottage. Since buying the house from my mother in 1996, we have updated it, adding central AC, wifi, etc.
It is a perfect house for a family. It's on a dead end street, is an easy one mile walk from Vineyard Haven and has a private beach. Built in the late 1800s by Mr. Hine, after whome, Hines Point is named, the house has character and a true Vineyard feel.
We are flexible regarding arrival and departure days. It does not have to be Saturday to Saturday. You can rent from Tuesday to Tuesday or, for that matter, Tuesday to Sunday provided the minimum rental period is met.
Charming home, full of things from old Cape Cod. Convenient to downtown Vineyard Haven but out of the traffic and congestion, peaceful, friendly area. Water views from 2 sides, swimming or boating is steps away. We had a great time there.
We've vacationed at Quawk Cottage three times now. This house offers walking-distance proximity to Vineyard Haven, ready access to other points on the island, and privacy and tranquility due to its location on a dead-end street. It's an old, comfortable house (1860s), spacious, well-equipped for hanging out in and cooking. The main porch wraps around the living space and its where the group spends most of its time. The owners make allowances for dogs, which is key to us--why leave them at home when they can enjoy a stroll on Lamberts Cove Beach every morning? The owners are communicative and easy to work with. We've loved coming here over multiple seasons.
We and our extended family were here at Quawk Cottage for two weeks in June and July 2012. This is a beautiful, secluded, summer home on a quiet, peaceful street. It is close to town yet fully removed from the traffic and activity of Vineyard Haven. Water views and ocean breezes are abundant inside and out. Swim in the warm water of the Lagoon, nap in the hammock, or sit on the porch and read one of the interesting books found inside. There is lots of interesting bird activity. The house is very well equipped with everything from sand buckets to lounge chairs. You'll need to provide your own sheets and towels. The beds are very comfortable. We found all of the information here to be accurate. The owner Toby was hospitable and great to work with.
