Spacious 2BR/2BA Condo - Ocean View, Above it All, Oceanside Pool, Wi/Fi, A/C

Bedrooms 2
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 3 - 6 nights

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6), Wi/Fi, Best Partial Ocean View

This SPACIOUS 2 BR 2 BA corner Condo is the largest at Kona Shores (1,000 sq ft of living space) and the only 2 BR 2 BA unit at this facility; it is referred to as "the Penthouse of Kona Shores" by long-term residents. This CORNER Condo has a good partial OCEAN VIEW (best at Kona Shores) from the living room and deck. It is in the most private section of the complex. Open the front door to a hardwood entry hall, then after passing the kitchen, step-down 5" to a living room surrounded by glass; look out to palms and gardens to the North--and the ocean and more landscaping to the West.

The living room has sliding glass doors to north and west portions of a 400 sq ft WRAP-AROUND LANAI. Enjoy eating and relaxing at the confluence of north and west decks--and taking in the views including tops of Golden-fruited palms complete with green day geckos. On the north lanai there is a shelver with swimming and snorkeling supplies, ice chest(s), and sometimes boogie boards. There are 3 wall air conditioners: one in the living room near the kitchen; one in the MA Bedroom; and one in the 2nd Bedroom.

In the MASTER BEDROOM you will find a King-size bed, 1 "Queen" wicker chair, one lounger chair, a chest of drawers, Hawaiian decorations and a glass slider and windows to the North landscaping, which drops off 30 feet to the back of a parking lot of the complex next door--no buildings interfering with your privacy in this bedroom! The Master Bath has a jacuzzi tub, make-up table and a large double closet. The SECOND BEDROOM is at the opposite end of the unit from the MaBR. It has two twin beds, a chest of drawers, and a glass slider-door onto the covered West deck (lanai). Clamps and linens are provided in the closet to convert the twin beds into a king-size bed. This bedroom is entered via a small foyer near the main door. At one end of the BR is a door to a FULL BATH having sink, high shelf-stacker for linens, and a tub-shower. The double-closet fills most of one wall.

A KITCHEN RE-MODEL was completed in June 2015, including NEW cabinets, GRANITE counter-tops, and new flooring. Inside the kitchen are a new refrigerator, a gas stove, a utility closet, and extra storage space at the entry end. A coffee-maker, microwave, 4 slice-toaster, and all dishes, pots and pans, and cooking and serving implements are provided. An eating bar is shared with the living room

There are small step-downs when entering the living room and the foyer to the 2nd Bedroom. ADDITIONAL SLEEPING is in the living room with a sofa-bed. Linens are provided in the MaBR closet or in 2nd BR closet. Eating outside with private views of tops of golden-fruited palms complete with green day geckos is pleasant and relaxful. This condo is a top floor (second floor) unit--no noise above you! Two ASSIGNED PARKING SPOTS are in a secluded section of the grounds directly down 1 1/2 stories. You'll have no trouble searching for a good parking spot! The commercial-style laundry is down-stairs on the way to your car.

The BBQ area and fantastic ocean-side POOL are on the Western border of the property; the pool is perhaps the best for SWIMMING (big enough) and VIEWS (waves breaking and great Sunsets) along all of Allii Dr. The Condo is at Kona Shores, which is 1 miles south of Kailua village (and immediately south of a larger complex, Sea Village) on the OCEAN-SIDE of Alii Drive. It is in the northwest corner of the facility--furthest from the road and nearest the ocean. The address is 75-6008 Alii Dr., Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.

Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking in unit or in Lanais.

About Glen

Ginny is now a retired Nurse, having practiced in several specialties and taught Nursing at the College level for many years; 20 yrs at San Jose State Univ. (Professor) and Sonoma State Univ. She loves out-doors, back-packing, swimming, and since our Honeymoon (photo) snorkeling. Glen is a retired business executive of Pharmaceutical and more recently Biotechnology companies. He has a pharmacy degree and an MBA. Growing up he participated in several sports and later focused on water-skiing, snorkeling, and back-packing. Both of us were born in California--she in Oakland, he in Santa Cruz. We both attended college at UC Berkeley and UCSF. Glen got his MBA at Harvard. Our most favorite vacations are to Ginny's family cabin in Yosemite and our Hawaii properties. We live in a house that we completed building in 2000 on Glen's family mountain-top property in Soquel (Santa Cruz), CA

Glen purchased this condo in 1999

Why Glen chose Kailua-Kona

Over the years Glen traveled to Hawaii many times, mainly Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Ginny and Glen went to several Hawaii islands on their Honeymoon in 1985. (Picture is at Kona Village) We have owned a time-share in Waikiki, a lovely condo at Poipu Beach in Kauai, and several vacation and long-term condos on the Big Island. Our favorite place to visit became Hawaii for the sports (e.g. snorkeling), sites all over the island, variety of scenery, birds, and the fact that this island is not yet ruined by Tourism and population. We now own properties only in KONA.

What makes this condo unique

We stayed at Kona Shores annually since 1985 (now over 30 years). We loved the PRIVACY of the North wing of this complex. In 1998 the lovely northwest, first floor, corner unit became available. Glen had seen it while helping a renter fix screens. We were lucky enough to buy this unit. Of course, every one in the mainly long-term renter/owner units was envious about the large corner unit directly above our 1 BR. A year later it became for sale at about $50,000 below previous asking prices. Again, we were lucky enough to purchase this unit. We love the open, spacious, above it all, good partial ocean view impact of the unit and the very private location within the complex. (This unit was built by the original contractor for Kona Shores for himself; he also built the special corner unit below, reportedly for one of his relatives.)

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay in your condo very much. Although we spent time in Waikiki afterwards, I enjoyed Kailua-Kona much more. The condo was comfortable and perfectly located. We paarticularly enjoyed the selection of books on the fish, birds and flowers of the big island. It was so nice to be ale to identify what we were seeing.

This was my first visit to the state of Hawaii, but I hope it won't be my last. I would not hesitate to book your condo again if I ever have the chance to return to Kailua-Kona.

Was a great location the Ironman Race

Not to close, but not to far for walking back to the center of town. Plenty of room for sleeping and lounging. Plenty of amenities in the kitchen and bathroom to use and not have to bring your own.

Relaxation and enjoyment

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have spent in Kona Shores. Glen's place is an excellent place to relax and enjoy life. I am an early riser and would go out on the lanai with coffee and bagel and watch the day begin and enjoy watching the geckos eating a slice of orange. In the evening we would have a drink on the lanai and watch beautiful sunsets.

The facility is excellent with a renovated kitchen, very clean rooms and relaxing place to spend a vacation.

Perfect condo for families

  • 5 of 5

A delightful place, conveniently located and stocked to meet all your needs. The owners have taken great care to ensure you are very comfortable stay. It is stocked with all essentials and also has great books, snorkelling gear, maps etc. Very spacious, well maintained and the wrap around Lanai is a perfect. Our kids loved the condo so much that they refused to leave. We will be back soon!

Highly recommend Kona Shores. Thus us the second time we've come here. This time we had a medical emergency and Bobbi helped me extend my stay. Most grateful to the staff and owners.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. We are both teachers on Maui. We love the Big Island during our summer breaks. We will definitely be staying in this unit again. It met our needs, which is a pool right on the ocean, which allowed me to watch my boyfriend fish on the rocks. The condo is completely stocked. It definitely has the retro decor which was fun. Close to town, and lots of great golf courses, our passion. We saw dolphins a few times from the condo. You knew they were passing by because tour boats would appear and people jumped in the water with them. You could actually swim out to them from this complex. Very quiet and friendly neighbors. You MUST go to Thursday happy hour music at the Royal Kona resort which is right down the street. T Free music from famous local musicians we have grown up with. Good Mai Tais too!

Thanks to the owners for making this a perfect place to stay. Karen and Mikioi.

Great Kona vacation rental!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our first visit to the Big Island. We stayed at the "penthouse" for three full weeks and it became our island home. We loved the location, close to downtown and activities. We loved coffee on the ocean view lanai - watching dolphins and even whales. The unit was spacious, private, quiet and great for two couples. Our very favorite thing in Kona was watching the sunsets every evening from the ocean front pool. It was a great place to meet people, enjoy the view and watch whales spouting, and even breaching, right in front of the pool. It was an amazing visit - we will be back next year! - Julie and Joe
