Condo, 2 Bedrooms + 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6), Wi/Fi, Best Partial Ocean View
This SPACIOUS 2 BR 2 BA corner Condo is the largest at Kona Shores (1,000 sq ft of living space) and the only 2 BR 2 BA unit at this facility; it is referred to as "the Penthouse of Kona Shores" by long-term residents. This CORNER Condo has a good partial OCEAN VIEW (best at Kona Shores) from the living room and deck. It is in the most private section of the complex. Open the front door to a hardwood entry hall, then after passing the kitchen, step-down 5" to a living room surrounded by glass; look out to palms and gardens to the North--and the ocean and more landscaping to the West.
The living room has sliding glass doors to north and west portions of a 400 sq ft WRAP-AROUND LANAI. Enjoy eating and relaxing at the confluence of north and west decks--and taking in the views including tops of Golden-fruited palms complete with green day geckos. On the north lanai there is a shelver with swimming and snorkeling supplies, ice chest(s), and sometimes boogie boards. There are 3 wall air conditioners: one in the living room near the kitchen; one in the MA Bedroom; and one in the 2nd Bedroom.
In the MASTER BEDROOM you will find a King-size bed, 1 "Queen" wicker chair, one lounger chair, a chest of drawers, Hawaiian decorations and a glass slider and windows to the North landscaping, which drops off 30 feet to the back of a parking lot of the complex next door--no buildings interfering with your privacy in this bedroom! The Master Bath has a jacuzzi tub, make-up table and a large double closet. The SECOND BEDROOM is at the opposite end of the unit from the MaBR. It has two twin beds, a chest of drawers, and a glass slider-door onto the covered West deck (lanai). Clamps and linens are provided in the closet to convert the twin beds into a king-size bed. This bedroom is entered via a small foyer near the main door. At one end of the BR is a door to a FULL BATH having sink, high shelf-stacker for linens, and a tub-shower. The double-closet fills most of one wall.
A KITCHEN RE-MODEL was completed in June 2015, including NEW cabinets, GRANITE counter-tops, and new flooring. Inside the kitchen are a new refrigerator, a gas stove, a utility closet, and extra storage space at the entry end. A coffee-maker, microwave, 4 slice-toaster, and all dishes, pots and pans, and cooking and serving implements are provided. An eating bar is shared with the living room
There are small step-downs when entering the living room and the foyer to the 2nd Bedroom. ADDITIONAL SLEEPING is in the living room with a sofa-bed. Linens are provided in the MaBR closet or in 2nd BR closet. Eating outside with private views of tops of golden-fruited palms complete with green day geckos is pleasant and relaxful. This condo is a top floor (second floor) unit--no noise above you! Two ASSIGNED PARKING SPOTS are in a secluded section of the grounds directly down 1 1/2 stories. You'll have no trouble searching for a good parking spot! The commercial-style laundry is down-stairs on the way to your car.
The BBQ area and fantastic ocean-side POOL are on the Western border of the property; the pool is perhaps the best for SWIMMING (big enough) and VIEWS (waves breaking and great Sunsets) along all of Allii Dr. The Condo is at Kona Shores, which is 1 miles south of Kailua village (and immediately south of a larger complex, Sea Village) on the OCEAN-SIDE of Alii Drive. It is in the northwest corner of the facility--furthest from the road and nearest the ocean. The address is 75-6008 Alii Dr., Kailua-Kona, HI 96740. We also have a tropical garden 1 BR Condo (VRBO #9673) in the same corner; and a private Studio Condo (VRBO #10597) next door if you need additional accommodations.
Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking in unit or in Lanais.

Ginny is now a retired Nurse, having practiced in several specialties and taught Nursing at the College level for many years; 20 yrs at San Jose State Univ. (Professor) and Sonoma State Univ. She loves out-doors, back-packing, swimming, and since our Honeymoon (photo) snorkeling. Glen is a retired business executive of Pharmaceutical and more recently Biotechnology companies. He has a pharmacy degree and an MBA. Growing up he participated in several sports and later focused on water-skiing, snorkeling, and back-packing. Both of us were born in California--she in Oakland, he in Santa Cruz. We both attended college at UC Berkeley and UCSF. Glen got his MBA at Harvard. Our most favorite vacations are to Ginny's family cabin in Yosemite and our Hawaii properties. We live in a house that we completed building in 2000 on Glen's family mountain-top property in Soquel (Santa Cruz), CA
Glen purchased this Condo in 1999
Why Glen chose Hōlualoa
Over the years Glen traveled to Hawaii many times, mainly Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Ginny and Glen went to several Hawaii islands on their Honeymoon in 1985. (Picture is at Kona Village) We have owned a time-share in Waikiki, a lovely condo at Poipu Beach in Kauai, and several vacation and long-term condos on the Big Island. Our favorite place to visit became Hawaii for the sports (e.g. snorkeling), sites all over the island, variety of scenery, birds, and the fact that this island is not yet ruined by Tourism and population. We now own properties only in KONA.
What makes this Condo unique
We stayed at Kona Shores annually since 1985 (now over 30 years). We loved the PRIVACY of the North wing of this complex. In 1998 the lovely northwest, first floor, corner unit became available. Glen had seen it while helping a renter fix screens. We were lucky enough to buy this unit. Of course, every one in the mainly long-term renter/owner units was envious about the large corner unit directly above our 1 BR. A year later it became for sale at about $50,000 below previous asking prices. Again, we were lucky enough to purchase this unit. We love the open, spacious, above it all, good partial ocean view impact of the unit and the very private location within the complex. (This unit was built by the original contractor for Kona Shores for himself; he also built the special corner unit below, reportedly for one of his relatives.)

Spacious, well-located condo, great for sunset viewing!
This roomy, bright, retro-style condo is centrally located in Kailua-Kona, near the shops and restaurants to the north (Lava Java's happy hour was our go-to on Ali'i Drive!) and lovely beaches, coffee plantations, villages and the gorgeous Punalu'u black beach of to the south. There's a fun Sunday market in the village of Captain Cook - not to be missed for its laid-back island vibe.
The condo provides snorkel gear, boogie boards and fun beach items for kids. There are lots of guide books and printouts of the area's features on the bookshelves - be sure to check them out. The wraparound lanai offers privacy and a beautiful partial ocean view from which to watch glorious island sunsets. The pool is lovely. Try a morning swim and hear the waves roaring in the distance. Then come back and leave a slice of orange on the lanai for the geckos. Get your camera ready!
The owner is friendly and attentive. For instance, we had no WiFi upon arrival, but the situation was efficiently dealt with. The laundry room on the first floor is clean (pro tip: bring lots of US quarters for the laundry or start collecting them on your arrival!). The parking is close to the unit.
This is a good place for a family or for couples vacationing together. Mahalo for a beautiful, relaxing first visit to this island, Glen! We hope to return to your condo someday soon.
One of the best!
Everything was perfect. The condo was beautiful and we all enjoyed it immensely. My grandson is a big dinosaur fan and guess what? There was a slew of dinosaur figures to play with!! The condo was stocked with everything anyone could ask for. The Kona Shores has a pool, bbq, and a nice convenient outside entertaining area. If we ever come back to Kona, we'll definitely stay in this condo. The only thing was the tv. didn't work right, but we didn't need it anyway. The wifi info is on the bottom of the router. Tried to get Spectrum to change it to what was on the info Glen gave us, but they wouldn't change it unless the owner called them. Relayed info to owner so everything should be taken care of. However the condo was perfect.
Great, relaxing home base in Kona
We loved our stay at this condo in Kona. There was plenty of space for three of us (myself and my parents); it was quiet, convenient to the laundry room, close to the parking spots, and had a fine view of the ocean and sound of crashing waves. The location is great, easily within walking distance of the main drag in Kona. The pool is nice, with good sunset views, though a little hemmed in by other buildings. The wraparound porch is a nice feature, allowing access from the back bedroom without disturbing others. The one thing I would change is the beds in that room--they're a little firm, and I ended up sleeping on the couch instead. Overall, a great value, and an easy time logistically, thanks to Glen.
The property is just as described & easy to access from Alli Drive
We were very pleased with our accomadations. The beds were very comfortable. The condo was very well equipped with everything we needed and more! The wrap around deck was perfect as it could be accessed from either bedroom and the living room. We had a bit of view of the ocean from there too which was neat. The pool that's on the edge of the ocean on the property was a great bonus as well. We felt it was a perfect fit for us and we'd definitely pick it again if we were to visit Kona again!
Enjoyed your beautiful condo!
Very comfortable and well located Condo. Condo was very nicely set up for almost any type of activity while on the Island. Either enjoying the water or just sight seeing. Everything was available, beach or Island special places to see and directions how to get there. Highly recommend this choice. Wonderful time was had by all! Hope to do it again soon.
My husband and I stayed in Unit 216 from Nov 6-18. It is very spacious and extremely well stocked - especially the updated kitchen. Nice partial ocean view from the wrap around lanai. Although the unit can accommodate 6 people we were surprised to find only one small TV. None in either bedroom. Master bedroom large but the mattress could use replacing.
The showers in both bathrooms need updating. Water trickles out of the shower heads - most of the water came out of the bathtub taps. The jetted tub had rust around the jets and the tile around the tub was cracked and dirty. The shower door in the second bathroom was broken and you needed to climb over the toilet to access the shower.
Also we were only given one set of keys which is inconvenient as the room key is also the key for the pool. We were able to get another set of keys after a phone call to the lady who does the cleaning.
We found the living room furniture very uncomfortable - the futon cushion slipped down constantly - nothing to hold it in place.
Our son and daughter in law stayed in Unit 116 - same owners. They had a problem with cockroaches and found the unit not well cleaned e.g. dirty Kleenex and potato chips behind the bed.
However their shower worked well and they had comfortable furniture.
Also the chairs on the lanai need to be replaced - some held together with duct tape and others rusty.
No doubt when this unit was built it was lovely- however it is in serious need of updating.
