Magical retreat from the world
The warmest welcome from Joanna and Vangelis and a privilege to stay in their beautiful house. The pictures do not do the house justice as it is really something - supremely tasteful, comfortable with every small detail considered. The bed linen alone was exquisite! We loved our time here and explored far and wide - finding the house perfectly positioned for us. We fell in love with the magical garden. A huge thank you!
Amnatos Way of Life
Delightful property. So many quiet corners in the garden, the butterflies, the bunches of ripening grapes, the views across the valley and the hills, the clanking of the cow-belled sheep - a chill-out experience, only interrupted by the church bells across the road on Sundays. Well-equipped house and an easy walk up to the taverna in the village square.
Rethymno only 20 minutes away by car (although there is an occasional bus service) and Chania and Plakias within an hour's drive. Some spectacular journeys and views driving through the Cretan countryside. Memorable.
We have just spent a wonderful week in Villa Dimitra. We received a very warm welcome, and we found everything we needed in the house. Many many thanks to Vangelis, Ioanna and Maria who where always very friendly and helpful. No hesitation, you must book Villa Dimitra!
Claude and Jocelyne.
The village of Amnatos is 17km from the centre of Rethymno and it is the last village on the way to the historical Monastery of Arkadi. The village is built on a rocky and high location having superb views across the valley of Rethymno.
The village was inhabited by the Venetians and the Turks and testify that the imposing buildings - towers of the village that survived until today. Houses Venetian notables (houses benezi), glass chimney style sebastiano serlio, mansions from the 17th and 18th century, imposing towers (the sanguinazzo) beautiful and lovely squares dominate and create a frame of a bygone era.
Due to the location of the village and the terrain in the area, there are many beautiful hiking and biking trails as to the nearby village of Kapsaliana where you can find the Museum of Olive. We will provide you for free 3 mountain bikes and light equipment for hiking (baton). Finally, the location enables visitors to explore the archaeological site and new built museum of ancient Eleftherna and caves of Melidoni and Zoniana which are some of the most famous tourist destinations in central Crete.
PLEASE be advised that the villa may appear on a different 'location category' on HomeAway affiliate websites, depending on their categorised locations (each affiliate website has its own 'location categories').
