About Laurie & Vic Vanthof
We are Laurie and Vic Van't Hof. We both were born and raised in Holland and Zeeland. Our kids and grandkids call Holland their home too. We love this town! Although we love to travel, it's always good to come back home.
Laurie & Vic Vanthof purchased this House in 2016
Why Laurie & Vic Vanthof chose Holland
We fell in love with this beautiful farmhouse from the moment we walked in. It has so much history and beauty. We love that it's large and private, and still so close to the beaches.
What makes this House unique
Our Farmhouse Cottage is a beautiful, spacious renovated farmhouse that sits on .63 acres of property, so there's plenty of room here to spread out and enjoy the private yard. We've added fruit bushes around the property to enjoy while visiting. It's peaceful, welcoming and relaxing and yet still so close to the beach and other amenities that you can walk.

Beachy Farmhouse Cottage
We stayed here with family, for a summer Lake Michigan getaway. It was perfect for our needs. It's within walking distance to Holland State Park, and Tunnel Park (or a very short car ride.) We are walkers and bike riders, and there are miles of wide paved walkways. The Farmhouse itself was immaculately clean and so well provided with everything you could want- plenty of clean, fluffy towels, a very well stocked kitchen, and extra thoughtful touches throughout. The outdoor spaces are well set up for gathering , eating and grilling. There are even bikes you can use. We would definitely stay here again!
Enjoyed our stay
Our family had a really nice time staying at the Farmhouse. We enjoyed sitting by the fire pit outside in the evening, played some of the outdoor games, and utilized the bicycles a few times. It was relatively easy to get to the Lake Michigan beach via car or bicycle. Overall we had a relaxing and enjoyable week.
Great place for a family get together.
We had a great time at the Farmhouse Cottage. The house was cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed using the bikes and the yard/lawn games during our stay. There were plenty of fun activities in the area that appealed to our group with ages 6-72.
Beach, biking, blissful family vacation!
This home is even better than the fabulous pictures! We had 2 families with kids ranging from 2-10 and everyone loved all of the special touches...hours spent on bikes, countless checkers matches, corn hole and horse shoe tournaments to up all of the time we did not spend enjoying the beautiful beach a short jaunt away. Laurie and Vic were super friendly hosts and even sent a reminder regarding trash pick up the night before (sometimes you forget what day it is on vacation 😁). If you are looking for a vacation home where there is literally no reason for the kids to be “bored” with an AMAZING, huge kitchen table to enjoy meals and games together, look no further! We’d definitely recommend the Farmhouse to everyone. Thank you Laurie and Vic!
We're so happy you had a blissful family vacation and enjoyed everything our Farmhouse has to offer! Thank you for being great guests at our Farmhouse Cottage. Come back again! Laurie and Vic
Not great for large group sleeping
This is a lovely home close to Lake Michigan and lake Macatawa. The property does face a very busy Main Street with lots of very fast traffic. The majority of our time was spent in the backyard but you could hear the cars, trucks and motorcycles easily, especially at night if you slept in the trundle bed, which is on the porch facing the Main Street. (168th street). The back yard is roomy although it backs up directly into a yard that is home to a duplex rental. The firepit is very close to the property line so if the neighbors are outside, they hear you and you hear them as if you are hanging out together. As mentioned the trundle room is not only on the enclosed porch but also right by the kitchen. The doors separating the two rooms do not lock out any noise so anyone in the kitchen will most likely wake whoever is sleeping there. There isn't a vent on the porch either so it was stuffy and hot for the people sleeping there. The pull out couch is in the living room basically in the middle of the living space. So once again, anyone who may be awake before the person on this bed will most likely wake the sleeping person. The bunk room allotted for the kids to have their own beds but beware that any time a person moves, the beds squeaked loudly and either woke or bothered the others sleeping in the room. Probably not the best arrangements for groups if you have light sleepers or different ages that go to bed at different times.
The house was very clean and provided a lot of linens but beware that anything left wet, dirty or any stains, you will be charged for replacement of them. We got charged for stained linens, empty water bottles left on tables, crumbs on counter, coffee mug left in sink, although the full dishwasher was clean upon our departure, and two trash cans filled.
It is a lovely home but we would not stay again.
"Everything is great" was the response from this guest when we sent them a message to ask how the house was. Please note that we go the extra mile to make sure our guests are happy and the house is absolutely perfect for every guest at check in and during their stay. "Everything was great" with this guest, until after their check out whereas they left our house trashed and we notified them of our claim for damages from their stay. We don't normally have to claim damages from our guests. Because our guests are awesome! However, in this case it's extremely disheartening that this particular guest doesn't appreciate or respect someone else's house and property. But judging by the condition in which they left our house and did NOT follow the house rules demonstrates that they likely don't care. I spent 4 days trying to fix things, clean and get stains out and purchase replacement items that this guest damaged. A second cleaner was called in on emergency to assist the primary cleaner because this guest failed to follow the house rules (and excess cleaning was needed in order to have the house ready for next guest): trash, garbage and food was left all over the house, trash cans were not emptied and overflowing (left with disgusting used tampons, etc), bed linens not removed from beds, piles of sand under beds, wet towels were left in baskets and on floor - accumulating puddles of standing water on floor, and bike damage. The worst was to find someone's urine soaked underwear left on floor next to the bed, urine all over bed and pillows. We suspect there was a dog (dog treats found) – rules clearly state no pets, towels so badly stained and with holes and discoloring, sheets and blankets ruined and stained. How does this happen? Disgusting. Would NEVER rent to them or allow them in my house again! The review from this guest is not an accurate reflection of our house. Please read our other reviews, which clearly demonstrate our history of 5 Stars.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the farmhouse! It is so conveniently located to everything but without being on the Main Street. The area is quiet and relaxing. The house was decorated beautifully. The kitchen table is huge...I LOVED IT! We were able to do a 1000 piece puzzle and still have room to eat dinner! Laurie made sure that everything was perfect as soon as we got there. She even gave us local blueberry donuts! (Which were incredible!) I would definitely recommend this rental.
The Farmhouse Cottage is close to the beach, walking distance to both Lake Macatawa (public beach) Holland State Park Beach, Lake Michigan as well as Lake Michigan at Tunnel Park Beach. Walk to the General Store, Mt. Pisgah, Dune Dogz, Ottawa Beach Inn Restaurant and so much more! There is a walking path right across the street from the Farmhouse Cottage.
