About Kathleen Cameron

My husband and I both work on the island. I am the art teacher for The Chilmark School and my husband owns a window and door business in Chilmark. We raised our son and daughter on Martha's Vineyard. We live about 8 miles from the house.

Kathleen Cameron purchased this house in 1998

Why Kathleen Cameron chose Martha's Vineyard

I inherited the land with a small summer cottage from my parents, who bought it in 1963. We knew that a location like that would be almost impossible to purchase today. We renovated and expanded it into a year round home because it was in such a magnificent location. My husband and I already owned a home on Martha's Vineyard so we decided to maintain this house as a vacation rental.

What makes this house unique

While the house is a well heated year round house it always feels like a beach house - the bedrooms have painted wooden floors, perfect for bare feet. You can see the waves, hear the sea and feel the ocean breeze. The large windows were designed to take advantage of the view from every location. On the first floor and on the second floor our huge mahogany windows look out toward the ocean and across the expansive lawn toward our pond. The birding is amazing as the islands are on a migration path and our own pond attracts many species of birds. Aquinnah is so natural that birds have wild vineyard grapes and every kind of berry to feast upon. We try to keep binoculars and birding books and a feeder at the house. We are at the end of the little road on three acres, so there is a wonderful sense of privacy. Walking from our house to the ocean is just a wonderful experience.

You can see and hear the ocean from the house.

This home is in a quiet and secluded spot. Wildlife abounds and it's a short beach walk to the breath taking Gay Head Cliffs. The layout of the home allows for a large family to be together but also have privacy if they choose. This location allows for the perfect magical upisland experience.

A wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

Great house, ocean view and beach. We were so pleased with the home and with Kathleen, its owner. It was cozy, comfortable and accommodating, although it was just the two of us, and fully equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed hosting a lovely dinner party with friends we have on the Vineyard. The view of the Atlantic is breathtaking, great to enjoy with either a morning mug of coffee or evening glass of wine in hand from the decks or inside. Their private community beach is great; we were able to walk under the Gay Head cliffs, which was fantastic. We will look forward to getting away again to this lovely vacation home.

Amazing home and location!

  • 5 of 5

This home is absolutely divine! Huge windows and a terrific view of the ocean. The property is private and serene, yet only a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. And this beach is THE BEST! There is also a large sweeping lawn and a pond on the property; a lovely area to explore. The house itself is really great too. Lots of light, nice sized bedroom and bathrooms, and a living room area on each floor. The owner, Kathleen, was very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend, and we hope to return!

Tranquility Defined

  • 5 of 5

This house is among the most tranquil and serene places we have ever been. It sits on a knoll commanding sweeping views of the ocean on one side and a pleasant pond on the other. It is completely private yet only minutes away by car from amenities at the cliffs and only a ten minute walk to Philbin Beach. There is a sunny deck equipped with comfortable lounge furniture, a small balcony upstairs similarly furnished, a well equipped kitchen and a large flat screen TV/media center. Every room has an abundance of windows with exceptional views. Kathleen is a most attentive owner who answered any questions promptly. Highly recommended.
