About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Lazy Bear Lodge is a beautiful hand-built log cabin with heart pine floors and exposed beams. The year-round long range view is fantastic as the cabin sits at an elevation of nearly 3,300 feet. In addition, the cabin is located on nearly 5 acres adjacent to Pinnacle Park with easy access to great hiking trails.

The secluded outdoor area complete with a hot tub, fire pit, grill and picnic table is one of the highlights of our cabin. Many of our guests tell us they start the day with coffee on the porch rockers and end the day with s'mores at the fire pit. Some even tell us they never leave the property!

Lazy Bear Lodge is located just minutes from downtown Sylva, about 20 minutes from the Cherokee Casino and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and about 30 minutes from Ghost Town in the Sky, Cataloochee Ski Resort, and Maggie Valley.

The home has everything you need for a great holiday weekend or multi-week vacation including a well stocked kitchen (see our reviews!) and a huge farm table with seating for 12.

Dogs allowed with a $125 per dog non-refundable pet fee.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lazy Bear Lodge was just what we needed! Everything was exactly right: the seclusion, the porch (with rockers!), the fully equipped kitchen & of course the hot tub and grill. Our favorite night was when we stayed in and gilled out dinner and sat around the campfire. It was a great week!

Great Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I feel this is the best VRBO we have ever been to. The cabin is super clean, very cute with everything you need and the view is fantastic. The owner and management company are great and were very understanding about changing of arrival dates. We highly recommend this cabin and this area of the county to visit and explore.

Authentic pioneer log cabin secluded in enchanted forest of 200 foot tall trees.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the vacation we spent in Lazy Bear Lodge. This is a very special authentic pioneer log cabin completely secluded in an enchanted forest of 200 foot tall trees. The only person we saw in 11 days at the cabin was the gentleman who picked up the garbage. Yet the cabin is conveniently located in a charming neighborhood minutes from gas, groceries and downtown Sylva. We especially enjoyed drinking coffee on the front porch watching the morning fog while listening to the birds sing while the butterflies fluttered in the cool breezes. We loved the glow of the gas fireplace. The hot tub under the giant trees was phenomenal. We will treasure our memories forever of our special time in this storybook lodge.

Great Cabin! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this cabin for 10 glorious days in April of 2016. The cabin is very unique and was well stocked with everything you could need. The hot tub, fireplace, fire pit, hammock, and views were amazing. We enjoyed hiking and fishing in the Tuckaseegee River and Noland Creek. We will be back for sure!!

Awesome accomodations !!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family was thrilled when we arrived at Lazy Bear Lodge! The cabin was everything we hoped it would be and more! Very clean linens and a fully stocked kitchen were only the beginning. The large kitchen table became our gathering place to share meals and play games. We hiked to the Pinnacle with our 3 adult children and it was amazing! But even more amazing was the access trail right from the cabin. Thank goodness for the hot tub to relax weary muscles. From the fireplace in the living room, to the hammock looking at the mountains, to the deck with the rocking chairs, to the wonderful fire pit, it was all so nice. We hiked every day and so many trails are a short walk or drive away. The driveway up to the cabin was a little scary, but since I had read the reviews and was well informed with our reservation confirmation, we kept going up the mountain and arrived safely. We made sure to be back before dark each night. We want to thank the owners of this wonderful retreat for sharing their little piece of heaven with us! We will definitely be back!

All we could ask for, and more! The dilemma of reviewing such an outstanding cabin --

  • 5 of 5

Writing a 5-Star review for this property comes with a bit of angst -- part of me wants to keep it a big secret so my competition for future bookings is lower, but I just can't do that, as it's not fair to these wonderful cabin owners who have clearly worked hard to provide a truly perfect mountain getaway. At least it was for us! We have visited the Smoky Mountains many times, and until now, always stayed in the Wears Valley or Gatlinburg areas on the Tennessee side of the GSMNP. So we are first-timers to the NC side of the Park, but no strangers to cabin rentals...and this one is home run!!

We were blessed with perfect weather, having just missed a period of fairly heavy snow, and there was still a bit on the ground when we pulled up. Yes, the drive-way is a little steep, but really not bad at all, and once parked you are literally a few feet from the front door. We love the rustic vibe of the true log cabin construction. The feel is cozy, but everything is roomier than it appears in the photos, and the long range view is visible from many vantage points in the cabin. LOVED the big farm-style kitchen table, even though it was just two of us, and the kitchen was thoroughly equipped. The gas fireplace is beautiful, and though I usually like the ritual of building and stoking a fire, I got to cover that activity using the firepit in the yard, so I had the best of both worlds. Soaking in the seclusion of the Hot tub and roasting marshmallows on the firepit are real highlights, and with the trees bare in Winter, the star-gazing from the Hot Tub was pure magic. Steps away from the firepit, next to the hammock, is a terrific park-style charcoal grill, which we used to grill steaks out twice. Just a few steps from the cabin we discovered a side trail that junctions with the West Fork of the Pinnacle Park trail -- we knew the PP Trail was close by, but had no idea we would have our very own personal access trail!! Don't miss it!

We found the off-season visit to this area to be a real treat, and enjoyed the relaxed pace and friendliness of the business and restaurant owners. We will definitely be back, and we will definitely book Lazy Bear Lodge again and again.

Early Christmas Celebration with Family

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Lazy Bear Lodge for an early Christmas celebration with our adult children. It was fabulous! Perfect, secluded location with everything you need. Yet, close enough to the beautiful town of Sylva to find anything you need. The weather was perfection itself. We hiked, lounged in the porch rockers, sat by the firepit, grilled a pork roast, baked Christmas cookies, laughed and watched movies by the fire. I would highly recommend arriving in the daytime. We arrived at night and the drive up the mountain was slightly scary. But in the daylight, you can see it's not nearly as scary as it seems. I forgot to mention how comfortable the beds are and I am very picky about my sleeping quarters. We will definitely return to this beautiful home.
