We have loved this property since discovering it for sale in the fall of 1993. We have put on a new cedar roof, extended mahogany decks on the north and west, and redone many interior features as well. We have summered here every summer, first with our children and now with our grandchildren for 3 decades. In the winter we live in Concord, MA, and Davis, CA.
Paula Smith-Hamilton purchased this cottage in 1993
This property has a spectacular location, with dramatic views to the west across hundreds of acres of conservation land owned by the Linda Loring Foundation, and a peek at Nantucket Sound from the second floor. deck. It is outside the bustle of town yet town is very convenient, even by bike.
We've happily stayed at this Nantucket cottage many times. It's a perfect spot for a family vacation. The post-and-beam construction is spacious and open, while giving it a cute, cabin-like feel. We love hanging out on the decks (there's one off of both floors) and enjoying our morning coffee or evening wine. We also really appreciate the grille and well-equipped kitchen, because we try not to spend too much on restaurants while we're out there. The lovely beach is a very short walk, and we often find that we have it to ourselves. Dionis feels remote and serene, while still being close enough to town that we can easily get there by bike or shuttle. Great spot!
You won't find a better location on Nantucket. The beach is close to the property and beautiful, and town is a pleasant 3 mile walk on bike paths. You'll feel like you have the island to yourself when you are in peaceful Dionis, and then you can enjoy the rich offerings and energy of Nantucket's town. We have been enjoying this property for years and it is a truly special spot on a beautiful island.
My wife and I stayed in this wonderful Nantucket cottage in July 2014 and could not have been happier. We loved this part of the island. The property itself is a quiet and peaceful oasis blessed with cool breezes, but is still convenient to the hustle and bustle of town. The cottage has every amenity needed to make your stay one to remember. It is light , airy, with plenty of room, yet has a very cozy feel and has been very well maintained. The cottage is very private and has wonderful views of the Moors and views of the Sound from the second story. The beach is a a very pleasant five min walk away. The sunsets are incredible and we’ve never stayed in a place on the East Coast from which you can see so many stars in the sky at night.
We cannot say enough good things about this cottage and can’t wait to go again this year.
This summer, 2015, our family will return to this beautiful guest house for our 7th annual visit. This 3 bedroom guest house is the perfect home base for your visit to Nantucket. The house is located in a quiet part of the island with beautiful views of the moors and easy walking access to the beach and yet it is close enough to town for easy access to restaurants, shopping and entertainment. The house is a guest house and the owners are on property in the main house which is nearby enough to be convenient and yet landscaping provides privacy. The owner is extremely accommodating and is willing to adjust to meet your needs. We highly recommend this vacation rental.
The property was cozy and charming. We stayed in the downstairs bedroom and found it ideal for the 2 of us. There is an ensuite bath/shower shared by the adjacent bedroom.
We loved to sip wine and watch sunsets on the upstairs deck and we could read books or just hang out in nature on the lower decks.
We did not have a car, but rented bikes and rode around the island. We also used the island bus and needed a taxi to get to the airport.
You won't find a better rental on Nantucket. From my first interaction with the owner to our final goodbye to the property, everything was perfect. The house is sunny and beautiful, and the location is an ideal mix of privacy (there were many times when we were alone on the beach near the house) and easy access to town. Nantucket has great restaurants and shops, and we loved going between the private location in Dionis and into the busy life in town. Our whole family loved it!
This 'upside-down house', meaning the living areas of living room and dining room are upstairs, while bedrooms are downstairs, is ideal for a quiet, low-stress experience. Biking, birding, beach- combing and connecting with loved ones are fit in well here. The property abuts approximately 300 acres of open moors owned by the Linda Loring Conservation Foundation. The upstairs deck overlooks this conservation land and has a distant view of Nantucket Sound as well. The walk to the Dionis Beach entrance is about a fourth of a mile. There is a good place to keep bikes behind the house on the rear deck. We regret we cannot allow pets and no smoking is allowed. Other Activities: live theatre, movies at Nantucket's new Dreamland theatre or the Starlight, live entertainment at the Atheneum or numerous venues downtown, great dining, boat excursions, tennis at the Jetties, kayaking in the harbor, sunset sails, ghost walks on historic streets, Audubon society walks to learn birding, and just plain doing nothing. There are 2 excellent book shops on island to tempt even the hard core Kindle user ---Bookworks and MItchell's. Folks eager to go 4-wheeling will also find a dramatic site, the Great Point area, where it's possible to drive on the beach if you rent the right vehicle.
