Charming 2 bedroom cottage. Secluded location yet only 40 min from Reykjavík
Our cottage is located in West Iceland which is a peaceful place in the countryside and only 40 min drive from Reykjavík City Centre.
This cottage was built by our family and is renovated to a high standard, ensuring excellent levels of comfort for our guests. You will find this beautiful cottage both spacious and comfortable.
The cottage has two bedrooms. 1 provides sleeping accommodation for 2 people, the other for 3. There is a wardrobe in each bedroom and every bed is brand new and of high quality. The bathroom has a nice shower. The kitchen and the living room are open plan, giving the cottage a bright and spacious feel. All common kitchen utensils are in the kitchen including a fridge, freezer, toaster and coffee maker for the convenience of our guests. In the living room there is a sofa, a TV and a beautiful old fashioned wood stove. The windows are large, allowing plenty of natural light to saturate the living space. These gorgeous windows provide a spectacular view as they are overlooking a lake, fjord and a circle of mountains.
The wooden deck outside the cottage is large so you can catch the sun all day and also enjoy the midnight sun in the summertime. Garden furniture is provided, six garden chairs and a table, also sofas and a little sofatable. We also have an outdoor gas grill our guests can use.
In a little shed next to the cottage there is a washing machine and during the summertime, guests can use it, laundry soap is provided.
The cottage is located on the edge of a little hill, overlooking lake Eiðisvatn, fjord Hvalfjörður and the spectacular mountains surrounding the fjord. A charming little garden surrounds the cottage and at the back of the house you will find a grove, consisting mainly of Icelandic birch trees.
Our daughter-in-law keeps her Icelandic horses just a short walk from the cottage and in the spring time you can see little foals with their mothers.
Although the view is wonderful, you can’t help but notice an aluminium plant a few kilometres away. This has never bothered us and we just love spending time in the cottage and the surrounding area. In fact, we like this place so much that we decided to build our own house next to the cottage. This means we are always on hand to help you should you need us!

About Adda & Sigurjón
Our names are Adda and Sigurjón. We are from a little town called Akranes, not far away from the cottage. The land our cottage is build on has belonged to Sigurjón's family for generations so we have always had strong ties towards this beautiful place.
Adda & Sigurjón purchased this Cottage in 1986
Why Adda & Sigurjón chose West
Sigurjón's Aunt and her husband build a little shed where the cottage is now and started to plant trees all around it. The trees are now tall and pretty, giving precious shelter from winds. As the time passed, previous owners were unable to visit their little piece of land, and in 1986, they passed it on to us, as we were looking for a place to build a little summerhouse for our family. Right away we started building an extension to the shed and through the years we have extended and improved our cottage. But still you can see a part of the original little shed in the living room and kitchen area.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our cottage is ideally located for active people who want to enjoy the comfort of staying in one place, while being able to see various places of beautiful Icelandic nature, as well as being close to the city's culture. Only one and a half kilometer away form highway 1, countless spectacular places can be visited.

A warm and cosy cabin with fantastic views
We felt very welcome right from the outset and the cabin was very warm and cosy. Well worth the drive and still very close to Reykjavic. We had fantastic weather visiting the blue lagoon and the geysers over the two days. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes the outdoors.
Perfect for us!
We stayed April 16-21st. Our first trip to Iceland. The cottage was clean, cozy, and perfectly situated for our travel plans. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful. We had everything we needed. Bedding, towels, dishes, cutlery, and a refrigerator. There was also a washing machine but no dryer. We got along just fine the whole trip. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return soon.
Thank you for the stay and your lovely review. We hope to see you again!
Super cozy in great location.
We loved this little cottage. It felt like home. And location is amazing. Lake at the front and mountains all around. I would recommend it to anyone who does want to get the feeling of a real Iceland not just Reykjavik.
We arrive for a weeks stay, in a snow storm, our host came to guide us up to the cottage, and when weather settled guided us to the supermarket, dug out the path for us in the mornings, kepts us informed with weather reports, beautiful Island with all the snow & sunshine, just wished we could have seen more.
Yes the weather in February can be unpredictable and you had lots of snow! But we try our best to make our guests comfortable and this time it mainly meant a whole lot of snow digging! Hope you come back in the summer and take a look around a completely different island.
From the moment we arrived we loved it!! The owners were extremely welcoming and so sweet!! The cottage itself was so relaxing, warm and simply perfect. Beds were very comfortable. Everything you need in the kitchen for cooking if you don't want to be eating out all the time. We were able to see the Northern lights on our first night there! Amazing experience! We didnt have trouble with wifi at all if thats something you need. Not to mention the view of the frozen lake and the mountains in the morning. Wow! Stop thinking about it and book this sweet cottage!! Will return for sure!! Thank you for letting us stay here!! ♡♡♡
Thank you so much for your kind words, we were happy to have you and of course you are welcome back anytime!
We booked the cabin after reading on reviews that aurora can be sighted from it, and it really can! We saw a display on the first night :)
The cabin is well equipped and really cosy! We didn’t need to light the wood burner, as the radiators heated all rooms really well. If you fancy getting the burner going, you will need to buy your own wood from a shop, as it’s not provided.
We hired a car and drove from airport, which took about 40 mins. Pretty easy to find with satnav and instructions which are given from owners before arrival.
We drove part of the golden circle tour, which was awesome, we headed to Akranes town to see lighthouse.
We visited Reykjavík (a visit to Kaffi vinyl is a must). We were a party of 4 vegans/vegetarians and found being in Iceland easy! Supermarket Netto was fantastic for vegan supplies, literally 5 mins from airport, so stock up on supplies from there. We all had the best time, and I would recommend this cabin 100%!!
Thank you for this lovely review, great to hear you had such a nice time in Iceland and liked the stay in our cottage. Welcome back anytime!
