About Malcolm Buteux
Hello and thank you for showing an interest. I am English much of my life spent in a Dartmoor village in Devon. I have lived in Perfugas for most summers for the last 11 years. I have enjoyed hunting the hidden gems of this region and share discoveries with family and friends. Running a holiday villa is a natural progression from that. Please feel free to contact me for any further information you would like to have about the property or the area. Kind Regards, Malcolm
Malcolm Buteux purchased this Villa in 2011
Why Malcolm Buteux chose Perfugas
I first fell in love with the Anglona and Gallura regions when I was house hunting for a peaceful place to live more than 11 years ago. This stunning and quite countryside, wild and unspoilt, surrounded by red tinted mountains is what attracted me. The proximity to the beach and the warmth of the local people, also won me over.
What makes this Villa unique
What makes this villa truly unique is that it is set in a natural, rural environment that is so tranquil that it is rare to even hear a car. And yet you are only 25 kms from the seaside. You also have your very own bronze age monuments on-site in the form of a 3500 years old Nuraghe tower by the Nuragic civilisation , the heart of an early Bronze Age village within the Villa grounds. ( They are also the people who built the sacred well you can see in the centre of Perfugas). Our pool is rather unique in having a salt electrolysis system that leaves your skin, hair soft and your eyes clear.

Beautiful and quiet spot for a holiday
Just returned from a lovely week at Villa Nuraghe. The villa is in an idyllic spot, very quiet and tranquil with only the faint, distant tinkle of cow bells to listen to. The local town of Perfugas has everything you need, both supermarkets are good, Crai is better if you want more recognisable brands but we used Eurospin mostly. The wine and cheese shops are a must! We also ate in the Pizzeria opposite Eurospin, fantastic pizza at a good price, takeaway and eat-in, but be warned they didn't take cards when we were there but there were plenty of cash points nearby. The beaches are lovely and we were often the only ones on them (we went mid sept so slightly out of season), our favourites were San Pietro and Badesi. The villa is spacious, the grounds extensive, you can find a shady or sunny spot somewhere whatever the time of day, also saw some lovely sunsets from the terrace. The villa and bedrooms stay very cool and the dining area outside is lovely, we BBQ'd most nights. The owner, Malcolm, has thought of everything in terms of facilities, utensils etc and was extremely helpful and responsive to any queries we had. For those that haven't been to Sardinia before it is vast! We took our bicycles and cycled most days. The villa is ideal for cyclists as there is plenty of secure storage and outside space, especially now that the additional accommodation is nearly complete. Sardinia is very hilly with little flat areas so you are up and down all day on some lovely sweeping roads. Some of the road surfaces were a bit bumpy but you just need to be selective about the road choices; the SS/SR roads seemed to be lovely smooth tarmac whereas the provincial SP roads were a bit more hit/miss. Nothing that Google maps/Street view cant help you with. The gradients are very consistent so less "rolling" than somewhere like Mallorca and some of the climbs are long but spectacular once you get to the top, especially around the wind farms. Generally we found the Italian drivers considerate although a little impatient at times but no worse than the UK and the roads are SO quiet once you get out of the towns that you barely see anyone else. The Sardinians are also a very friendly bunch & make you feel welcome everywhere. Our favourite cycle areas were around Castelsardo, Tergu, Badesi, Sedini, Nulvi, Tula and there is a really long (15km) climb from the lake at Tula up to Tempio which is a very scenic road and extremely quiet. All in all a fab 2 weeks!
Villa Nuraghe is fabulous!
Our stay at the villa was absolutely wonderful. The owner made us feel very welcome on arrival, made it clear that he was available should we have any questions or difficulties, and we even had two bottles of local Sardinian wine supplied for us to unwind with that evening!
Everything about the villa works very well, it is well stocked with kitchen items, and the views from the terrace over a meal are splendid. I would thoroughly recommend the villa, without reservation, as a base from which to tour Sardinia.
Clean, well-equipped property in a beautiful location
We had a fantastic stay in this property in July/Aug 2017. It had everything we needed and the owner, Malcolm, was always available if we needed anything during our stay. The grounds surrounding the property are extensive, with lots to explore. The terrace out front was always shady and a lovely place for meals or games, The pool is fantastic - clean and well-looked after, the water always warm. It was a great place to cool off when it got hot. There is a gate to the pool area so that it can be closed off if you have young children. We received a lot of information on the property and area from Malcolm before we arrived. The property is about 5 minutes drive from the nearest village (Erula) which has a small grocery shop, but the town of Perfugas, 10 mins away, has everything you would need - supermarkets, pizzeria, cafes, bank etc. remember that most places close between 1pm and 4pm! The nearest beach is about 20 km away. We found the beaches to be clean with really clear water, although when it's windy there are waves (which our kids loved). The water park at Isola Rossa is also fantastic for kids, from all ages.
The villa was a lovely , quiet (except for the sheep-bells every evening) and fully equipped for our needs. Malcolm the owner was available if we needed him and offered to run us to a local Agroturismo for lunch and collect us afterwards. The meal at the farm was upon Malcolm's recommendation, and really good, with far too much for us to eat . The grounds of the villa are extensive, not overlooked and well kept., in the local style. The sunloungers were all strategically placed in appropriate sunspots before we arrived, how sensible! The property has huge history, with a Nuraghe (just out of shot of the picture to the left) and a "long barrow" under the swing chair at the top of the garden. The pool (perfect and saline) is raised above ground for very good archaelogical reasons. Access to the coast, local towns and really interesting sites was very straight forward, but windy roads. We also on Malcolm's advice found 2 sites for wild swimming, one in warm springs, the other with cascades when the water was high.
Access to shopping and the wine cooperative was simple but good. The latter is a true treasure, but you must save your water bottles (2 litre) to ensure maximum value.
We wish we could have had more time at the villa, the view in the picture to the left is exactly as we found it, overlooking no-one, except the sheep in the far field.
Excellent Malcolm, we shall recommend you .
Best Wishes to you and your wife Val on many future happy seasons,
Mark and Lydia Stephens
Great holiday in a great location
We loved the location of this property, close enough to great beaches, mountain drives, villages, and local amenities whilst feeling like you're in a secluded rural hide away with only the sheep for company. Whilst well equipped for families as a couple we found everything homely; clean, well equipped, lots of useful items and suitably 'grown up' enough to enjoy a romantic break; sundowners watching the sunset, candle lit meals on the terrace, wine under the stars listening to the owls and the sheep bells. Northern Sardinia is beautiful, our favourite sand dune backed beaches were the local ones, the sea here was so clear and lovely for swimming in. Perfugas is a gem of a place, minutes away in the car to find local wine, cheese, fruit and vegetables in small friendly shops as well as the convenience of supermarket shopping. We had a great holiday and would recommend this part of Sardinia.
First Holiday With Baby
My husband and I stayed this September with our 9 month old baby. It was our first family holiday, we had been looking forward to it for ages and it very much lived up to our expectations. Malcolm was the perfect host, he provided a cot, highchair and a baby bowl, as well as a makeshift baby bath, all of which were very useful. He also helped book a table at a local agrotourismo, which was a highlight of the trip. The location of the villa is very remote so suits those looking for a peaceful holiday. We liked this as it didn't mater if our baby made noise which could have been difficult if we had close neighbours. There are various beaches and pretty towns within about 30 - 40 mins from the villa which made for great day trips. Overall we would very much recommend a stay at Villa Nuraghe.
- At an 1H15 drive from Olbia ( Easyjet) and Alghero (Ryanair), this villa is ideally located for exploring all the fantastic beaches of the northern coast as well as the many towns and inland places of interest .
- 20 mins drive from some of the most beautiful beaches in the mediteranean sea. Sardinia is famed for its amazing beaches and this is rightly deserved as they vary from little secret coves to long stretches of amazing white beaches. The water is crystal clear and ideal for snorkelling.
- However this region's best kept secret (and seldom visited by tourists) is the surrounding countryside and mountains providing beautiful walks/natural swimming pools /rock climbing etc.
- Archaeological sites and museum in Perfugas itself . Many more sites of cultural interest in surrounding villages.
- Folkloristic events and fiestas all year round in the Anglona region (traditional singing and dancing, craft fair etc.)
- Guided canoe trips, wind/kite surfing lessons, diving tuition within 30 minutes drive of the villa.
- Wildlife lovers will be enchanted : so many animals can be seen. Mostly various birds, lizards, hedgehogs, turtles etc. Foxes and wild boars are mostly seen at night.
- Supermarkets, local wine and cheese co-operatives selling local produce with restaurants, cafes and shops close by.
- Free internet at the local cafe/bar as well as ATM, pharmacy and GP.
Whatever your holiday style and with our client information pack, you will be spoilt for choice of places to go and things to do .
