About Malcolm Buteux
Hello and thank you for showing an interest. I am English much of my life spent in a Dartmoor village in Devon. I have lived in Perfugas for most summers for the last 11 years. I have enjoyed hunting the hidden gems of this region and share discoveries with family and friends. Running a holiday villa is a natural progression from that. Please feel free to contact me for any further information you would like to have about the property or the area. Kind Regards, Malcolm

Why Malcolm Buteux chose Perfugas
I first fell in love with the Anglona and Gallura regions when I was house hunting for a peaceful place to live more than 11 years ago. This stunning and quiet countryside, wild and unspoilt, surrounded by red tinted mountains is what attracted me. The proximity to the beach and the warmth of the local people, also won me over.
What makes this Villa unique
What makes this villa truly unique is that it is set in a natural, rural environment that is so tranquil that it is rare to even hear a car. And yet you are only 25 kms from the seaside. You also have your very own bronze age monuments on-site in the form of a 3500 years old Nuraghe tower by the Nuragic civilisation , the heart of an early Bronze Age village within the Villa grounds. ( They are also the people who built the sacred well you can see in the centre of Perfugas). Our pool is rather unique in having a salt electrolysis system that leaves your skin, hair soft and your eyes clear.

Lovely views and lots of wildlife
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Villa Nuraghe. Malcolm was the perfect host - helping us when the battery in our rental car needed replacing. The villa is in a beautiful and peaceful, rural location but there is a bakery up the hill in Erula and Perfugas, which is only a short drive away down the hill, has two supermarkets. Easy to get to the coast and to enjoy the countryside and towns inland as well. Could have done with staying more than one week because we never got to try the local ice cream!
Peace and Tranquility.
The villa truly deserves a 5 star rating. The owner Martin has thought of everything to make this a stay you will not forget. He is a very cool, kind and knowledgeable host. We travelled with two older teenagers who were completely enchanted by Martin, the house with its landscaped gardens and the beautiful rural surroundings.
The villa was spotlessly clean and there was a lovely bottle of chilled local wine and a plenty of fresh fruit on arrival. The villa has a Bauhaus feel with a lovely eclectic interior that is very tastefully appointed. The master bedroom is such a comfortable escape and the bed is divine.
The huge landscaped gardens are simply delightful; you are entering a secret and private wilderness. Huge ancient stones are scattered throughout and the remains of an ancient tower are within the grounds, just in front of the main patio. There are so many beautiful terrace plants and plenty of fresh herbs. The pool is perfect for cooling off after a hot day and chlorine free. My wife discovered the hammock and spent many an afternoon reading under the shade of the big old tree. Wi-Fi is very fast and available throughout the house and gardens.
Perfugas is a great little Town, very quaint; I drove in everyday for fresh bread and groceries. It has everything you need, plenty of shops, cafes and bars and 2 very good supermarkets. The Pizzeria is well worth a visit - delicious, the ice cream shop on the main square is a must. Perfugas is not touristy and very family orientated, very safe. There are some stunning small churches and great archeological sights to while away afternoons. They are always open.
Sassari is about a 40-minute drive and worth a visit in the morning… it has some great old streets with plenty of small independent boutiques.
The beaches are a short drive and bathing is a must. Martin knows of quieter beaches that are beautiful but the larger tourist beaches are still worth a visit and not as overcrowded as you would imagine.
We used Hertz for car hire who were great and went for a medium size car that was perfect for the journeys we made. You don’t need a SatNav, everywhere is clearly signed and Google Maps did the trick. The drive to the house is very straightforward and the country roads are a breeze, there is very little traffic on the roads.
I highly recommend this villa and I thank Martin for his very kind hospitality… we will certainly return. Perfect!!!!
Peace, quiet and relaxation
The property was incredible relaxing, bringing us lots of space with a lovely views and a pool. Malcolm provided useful information and it’s not a hard place to find from the airport.
The accommodation was clean and it was provided with a nice and clean equipment. There are a few supermarkets and local restaurants that he was so happy to help with bookings.
We would look forward to stay there again.
Idyllic rural retreat
Villa Nuraghe is set in the hills of north east Sardinia and its isolation makes it perfect for a holiday where you can truly get away from the rat race. Malcolm has thought of and provided everything you might need and things you didnt even think you would need! There are chairs and parasols to take to the beach and badminton to play in the garden.
What we loved most was the view and the opportunity to sit on the terrace with a coffee, beer or glass of wine and just take in the scenery and listen to the sounds of the countryside. Lizards of varying shades of green and brown are everywhere and the bird life varied.
There are lots of clever touches throught the property where Malcolm has upcycled or repurposed items.
Malcolm has provided lots of information to make your holiday a success and guidance over where you can find shops, bars and items - it seems the Sardinians don't advertise and it's hard to identify a shop from outside!
We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa, unless you hate being in the countryside!
Could not be better!
We LOVED our holiday at Villa Nuraghe!! The villa is lovely and so comfortable, more like a home from home than a typical sparse holiday home. The gardens and beautiful views surpass anything! The garden is huge and has little pathways that make it feel like you're the first person to find it! Little seating areas dotted around are all very well thought out. We came on holiday as a family - our children are 9, 7 and nearly 1 and we all absolutely loved it. We were here for a week in April and were very happy in the gardens and pool (quite chilly in April!), we ventured to some local towns for coffee and ice-cream and went to a beautiful cove beach Baia Ostina which was perfect for us with trees for natural shade. Malcolm was the perfect host and when we invited him over for breakfast he brought his own outdoor cooking equipment and let the kids cook pancakes (not the 1 year old...)! Malcolm has thought of everything at Villa Nuraghe and made a truly beautiful place. We can't wait to return!
Stunning countryside views in the seclusion and privacy of the Villa Nuraghe
This beautifully equipped and very comfortable house more than lives up to the promise of the description. This is a really magical place where you can live in an idyllic countryside full of wild flowers, butterflies, birdsong and the sound of sheepbells not to mention the views. There is a bronze age Nuraghe on site that adds to the magic. Malcolm, the owner has thought of everything you could want and is helpful about the local area and as well as with anything else. The chlorine free pool is delightful to swim in in such heavenly surroundings.
The area around is fascinating and there is much to see; we felt we only scratched the surface. There is a comprehensive collection of local information at the house. Perfugas, the local village has everything you need only a short distance away. A high spot of our trip was the 3k walk to the Agriturismo Putzu Canu where the owner and chef Antonio keeps the local food and wine coming, all delicious. A newish restaurant in Tempio Pausania, Al Vecchio Corso, (via Roma) is also highly recommended. On top of all this there are beautiful beaches within half an hour's drive.
We have stayed in many gites/villas over the years but cannot think of any that so truly live up to the photos and description on the website. We cannot recommend it highly enough.
- At an 1H15 drive from Olbia ( Easyjet) and Alghero (Ryanair), this villa is ideally located for exploring all the fantastic beaches of the northern coast as well as the many towns and inland places of interest .
- 20 mins drive from some of the most beautiful beaches in the mediteranean sea. Sardinia is famed for its amazing beaches and this is rightly deserved as they vary from little secret coves to long stretches of amazing white beaches. The water is crystal clear and ideal for snorkelling.
- However this region's best kept secret (and seldom visited by tourists) is the surrounding countryside and mountains providing beautiful walks/natural swimming pools /rock climbing etc.
- Archaeological sites and museum in Perfugas itself . Many more sites of cultural interest in surrounding villages.
- Folkloristic events and fiestas all year round in the Anglona region (traditional singing and dancing, craft fair etc.)
- Guided canoe trips, wind/kite surfing lessons, diving tuition within 30 minutes drive of the villa.
- Wildlife lovers will be enchanted : so many animals can be seen. Mostly various birds, lizards, hedgehogs, turtles etc. Foxes and wild boars are mostly seen at night.
- Supermarkets, local wine and cheese co-operatives selling local produce with restaurants, cafes and shops close by.
- Free internet at the local cafe/bar as well as ATM, pharmacy and GP.
Whatever your holiday style and with our client information pack, you will be spoilt for choice of places to go and things to do .
