Guestbook comments from the owner

The house was/is very spacious and comfortable with fantastic views. Mobile signal not great in this part of the world which made the week even better!

Spotted dolphins off the harbour at about 7pm last night-fantastic!

Donna who looks after the house could not have been nicer and more helpful!

Great Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect and our party of 9. All managed to fit into this house comfortably for 3 nights. Kids were happy. Beautiful location above Portknockie harbour. Awesome fish and chips in town. Two pubs in town to visit for a pint. Very, very quiet village though. If you are looking for noise, you've come to the wrong place. We had a great time exploring the area, beaches, caves and famous bow fiddle rock. Easy hike to Cullen and their beautiful beach.

I would love to go back there again some day.

A Beautiful Place

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful place to make a base to explore a traditional part of Scotland, and especially to visit the Dufftown whisky trail. The house is quite spacious , has luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, and has fantastic views down to the Portknockie boat harbour, and across Moray Firth. We were there at the end of May and found it was fabulous for three people and would be excellent for a family group. The coastline is superb for exploring by car or on foot. Portknockie itself and the surrounding villages and towns are beautiful and historic. Would recommend the Old Post Office for sure.

Delightful House

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic few days at this house , so homely clean and comfortable and fantastic views of the harbour , nice and quiet and house is better equipped than any place we have been to before , thourghly enjoyed our stay and intend coming back , being pet friendly too, our dog settled really well , as if he was at home ! Which speaks volumes to us . Lots of lovely walks in the area and surrounding villages . Local Chippie very good and lots of other places to go eat if you require nearby, And there's an excellent ice cream shop in a nearby village . Looking forward to going back to The Old Post Office , Owners response very quick if any queries , Overall can't speak highly enough of the house and owner .

Comfortable cottage in a fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely few days at the Old Post Office. It is very spacious, clean and well equipped and the views from some of the windows are fantastic. It's a treat to walk out the front door and be right at the harbour.

Wonderfully located, cosy & quiet

  • 4 of 5

The Old Post Office is very cosy and homely. The living room has a great view for the sunset - I spent many an evening with a cup of coffee in one of the armchairs watching it! It is especially beautiful as the cottage is more or less next to the sea, with no other houses impairing the view.

Portknockie itself is quiet. The walks to Cullen and Buckie along the coast were wonderful!

However, I wouldn't recommend taking your jogging gear with you. There are many dogs, one of them almost bit me even though I stopped jogging and started walking.

Apart from that, my stay was great! If you're looking for a peaceful holiday with stunning views and you do not mind walking, you have found the perfect place!

The Old Post Office is situated at the harbour in Portknockie, which is an old fishing village on the coast of the Moray Firth. The area around the harbour is a conservation area and features traditional houses in North-South rows. Portknockie was voted 'Best Kept Village' several times in recent years in the 'Scotland in Bloom' competition.

• The village is ideal for cyclists and walkers who can enjoy the coastal walks along the Moray Firth and may be lucky to see the Bottlenose Dolphins. The famous Bow-Fiddle Rock, a wave-cut natural arch often teeming with Gulls and Cormorants, is a short walk from the cottage.

• All around Portknockie you will find various Whisky Trails and Castles to explore, as well as the Marine Aquarium at Macduff, the Scottish Tartan museum in Keith and the world famous Baxter's of Speyside.

• For those interested in golf, there are a number of very good courses nearby. Fishing, sea angling, scuba diving and sailing are all available nearby.

• Amenities within Portknockie include, 2 local hotels, grocers, newsagent, pharmacy, fish and chip shop, and not forgetting the children's sea paddling pool by the harbour.
