A wonderful little town!

  • 3 of 5

First and foremost, the owner is charming (the homemade tart & prosecco on arrival were greatly appreciated), the manager kind and very helpful, and the townspeople are simply adorable. The garden is immense and great for kids and the location of the house is great (we LOVED the café/bar across the square).

That being said, the house itself is extremely rustic and the electricity is frighteningly ancient & there were problems during our stay. The basement is very damp and you aren't entirely comfortable having your younger children sleep down there by themselves. I can't imagine spending a week here in the rain!

Lastly, the pool is not even nearby, but located at the owner's house which is a short car-ride away. This is a detail, as the pool is really lovely. HOWEVER, no matter what time of day we went there was always someone in the pool (relatives of the owner). We tried going at different times, to no avail. While this is surely not the end of the world, it is really not ideal.

For the price, I understand that you can't do much better, and I truly love the town, but the house could definitely use some work (some love).

We had a wonderful time all the same!

Acqualoreto is a spectacularly positioned little village with amazingly glorious views. Sitting high above the valleys, you are whisked back in time in a village of 88 people, making this one of the smallest villages in Italy. But all services are here : a bar, a fine restaurant, and a weekly shopping car for all your errands make this a very pleasant basis from which to explore the many beautiful Umbrian villages. Todi at 14 km, Orvieto at 30 km, churches, fine restaurants, ice cream parlours, Assisi, Spello, Bevagna, Montefalco, it is all there for you to admire. Acqualoreto is a secret hideout for the Roman, English and American VIPs. Famous actors, writers and politicians rent their homes in this amazingly beautiful and charming area.
