About Ian McWhannell at 0033 (3) 8682 6450
I am a Highland Scot. Educated in Edinburgh. Went into the Navy was Commissioned. Went farming in New Zealand at 27 and at 45 sold up a classical vineyard, apple orchard, sheep and cropping farm in Nelson New Zealand. I moved to India where I bred thoroughbred horses and raced them in India with names like Kiwi Challenge. I have still a beautiful old Portuguese Home in Goa and spend the European winter there. I am a gardener and in France I try and create a beautiful garden. This is now my work. A collie/lab dog is my constant friend. I love life and am totally totally HAPPY. Long may it last.

Delightful holiday home
Beautiful village. Lots to do: fun on the river, cycling, walking - short and long, day visits to neighbouring towns and villages stunning chateaux and churches. Plenty of wine and good food will excellent opportunities for wine tasting. Everyone in the town were very friendly. Thanks to Ian and Margarette for looking after us.
Great house in beautiful village
Wonderful time in well equipped house, lucky to be there during a music festival so lots going on in the town, delicious restaurants and cafes, walking in the hill and boating and swimming in the river. Highly recommended.

Fantastic property in an quintessential French village
Ian and Margreetha are warm and friendly owners of this fantastic property in a truly idyllic and romantic village. We were taken in by the charm and beauty of the photographs, but were overwhelmed on arrival. The light, airy property has beautifully simple room and a great open plan living space with a tiered garden at the rear. Passing through the two terraces, ideal for breakfast, lunch and supper or even just a glass of wine in the afternoon, you find the beautiful and inviting Serien, great for cooling off in the summer heat. Our last discovery was the best of all, at the end of the village a short strol from the property, is the dove cottage. Perched on the gentle meander of the river, the walled garden provides a secluded oasis to relax and sunbath. If that's not enough, then the village, that is nestled in the list of top 100 prettiest villages in France, has everything else and more. The boulangerie is delight and well worth the wait in the queue that forms every morning, the six wonderful little restaurants provide variety on the beautiful, local French cuisine and the markets are quaint. We will be returning!
Dear Guests, Lovely to have your visit. Also thank you for leaving the home so clean and tidy.
I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and it was so obvious that you enjoyed this very friendly French Village.
Please return and also send friends like you to visit us in Noyers sur Serein
Warm feelings Ian and Margareetha
Very nice house with superb view
Very nice house with superb view and ideal to visit/explore Noyers and surrounding but perhaps some of the furniture can be replaced. The couch in the livingroom and the bed ( 2 persons) on the first floor are not really comfortable. It would also be nice to have some comfortable chairs outside ( to relax on the grass).
The garden that you possibly never used by the river has in total 8 deck chairs three with foot rests also 3 lounge sun chairs and one upright cane chair ( the second cane chair was taken by a previous guest so he could sit outside the front door of the house ) I will return that chair to the rose garden.
As to the two beds you found uncomfortable I regret this but you are the first to complain about it and I will not be changing the beds.
The other complaints also are the first ever made and I assure you that I have had guests from over 15 countries and all have left with only words of thanks ; however, when I replace the couch which has been used by so many I will think about your suggestions.
I think if I remember you asked for a barbecue and I took it from the large garden by the river and brought it to the small house garden and possibly by this action of mine you never used the large garden. SORRY.
Ah, Ian, what a marvelous visit we had in Noyers sur Serein! You are the consummate host and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting and visiting with you. Noyers is a lovely and friendly village; your gite is charming and wonderfully appointed. We loved seeing your walled garden-what a treat. My husband will not be pleased when I tell him that we really do need a wall! Ha. Merci mille fois-À la prochaine visite. Cynthia
Dear Cynthia, Glad to hear you are home safe and sound. As you saw in my French Village we not only have walls but as you found in my rose garden a tower. Many towers in the village. So if you get your wall then ask for your own Tower???!!! Better not you might land up living in it alone.
I loved the way you were so active and saw so much. Come again. Lovely to meet you both.
Ps you left the house so so clean. THANK YOU. Regards Ian McWhannell
Vacation of a lifetime!
Our family of 5 recently returned from a 10 day stay at Ian's house in Noyers and it far exceeded our expectations! The village itself is beautiful! Friendly people, wonderful patisserie, plenty of green space/nature walks, etc. I would definitely eat at the restaurant run by Ian's son in law--it is amazing! The house is in a perfect spot-easy to walk to everything in the square, but at the end of a street so as not to be noisy. It overlooks the idyllic Serein River. The sounds of the birds and smell of the roses and peonies were wonderful. Ian is a perfect host and extremely interesting to talk to. I wish we'd had more time to sit over a bottle of wine and listen to more of his stories! :) I can't say enough about this village/house/host. I look forward to returning!
Thank you. I loved having you and was thrilled that with not really the best of weather you enjoyed a very short holiday at my my home in France.
Yes you certainly saw a lot and I know you enjoyed the beauty of the village.
I would love to see you return.
Warm regards Ian
