It's early morning. You waken to the chirping of many bird songs, the only sound besides that of the breeze. You take your coffee out to our summer dining room or outside to our picnic area and marvel in the beauty of morning fog evaporating from mountaintops in the distance. Our spectacular views of open fields, surrounding hills and the valley that fronts our direct view of the Magic Mountain ski area inspire you to plan your day's activities. There is much to explore and enjoy in all directions, in nearby towns such as Weston, Chester, Grafton, Woodstock, Manchester, or you can opt for relaxing at home or swimming, hiking, playing tennis or golf at local venues, or shopping for artisanal foods at the local market or nearby farms. Always, you enjoy the peace, quiet and beauty of our home in the southern Vermont countryside.
Dating from the early 19th century, our classic farmhouse in Londonderry, VT, has enormous charm. Many of the rooms are super sized. Our family has owned it for 82 years and have decorated it with family antiques, art, and Oriental rugs. There's a library, a fireplace and grand piano & a dining table that seats 10. Lovely views can be seen from several rooms. Well-equipped gourmet Ikea kitchen with Cuisinart, cookbooks, spices, herbs. and a dish set for entertaining as well as regular meals.Some people enjoy our ''summer dining room" in our old woodshed,next to the kitchen. IT looks at Magic Mountain, as does our lovely outdoor picnic area.
The house is surrounded on all sides by open fields, and there's a maple sugar lot and woods to the west. We are half way up Hell's Peak with a gorgeous view of both Magic (Glebe) and Stratton mts. (and Bromley from our woods) and the 65-acre property is ringed with smaller mountains. Our front yard features these views, and our large lawns extend to the front, rear, and side of the house with many beautiful flower beds. The picnic area overlooks the view of Magic Mt. and fields. Many of our clientele return again and again so great is their enjoyment of our property & the area.
Our three bedrooms, two of which are very large, feature comfortable beds, with a good supply of seasonal blankets. We provide bed and bath linens for a fee; both table and reversible window fans keep the bedrooms comfortable in summer. The queen pullout in the LR is available, but occupancy of six rather then eight people is more comfortable. Our large, sunny dining room abuts the kitchen and a dish closet, and the LR is a very large "floor thru" with a grand piano, fireplace and library. Bring your own CDs. The TV/reading room is downstairs and has a comfortable couch and ottomans.

The area: There's tons to do in the Londonderry, Weston, Peru, Manchester area, and other attractions are within easy driving distance. There are many restaurants, shops, recreational sites. Swimming, hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing antiquing, summer theatre, concerts, shopping, visits to historical sites, a farmer's market are just some of the area's attractions. Londonderry is in the heart of the Golden Triangle ski area, with Stratton, Bromley, Magic and Okemo nearby. Our parents bought the farm in the middle of the Great Depression. For 20 years we dairy farmed the property. We three sisters are now the owners. There are four grandchildren of the original owners, and four great grandchildren. The sisters and their families all live off-site but use the home as a vacation spot too. For that reason, it is kept in very good condition, with improvements added each year, and the house's charm and amenities have been preserved. We all grew up on the farm and were largely educated in the area. I, Kathryn, the eldest sister, am the renter contact, and my younger sister, Judith, is our treasurer.

Just a quick look at our visitors' guest book and its many 5 star reviews gives a good overview of the reasons to choose our property for your vacation. Three ski areas are nearby: Stratton, Bromley and Magic Mt. The mountain and valley views are spectacular; the 200-year-old classic farmhouse colonial house is charming ( with several large, sunny rooms), as is the property itself, a mixture of wide lawns, lovely flower beds, large fields and pastures and a picturesque woods. The house is furnished with antiques, Oriental rugs, art and a wide selection of books that belong to the family, and the kitchen and dining facilities are very well equipped. All the beds are comfortable, and amenities include two kinds of fans in summer for cool sleeping. Outside there is a picnic area that features our best view of Magic Mt. There are many recreational, shopping, and tourist sites in the area, and the house is furnished with guide books and other tourist information. Please look at our enthusiastic renter reviews for trustworthy reactions to this great location...NB: we rent for WHOLE SKI SEASON, not weekly or monthly as in summer and fall. So far, two ski families have stayed five to seven winters in a row, because of our house's location and charm. There's even a big sliding hill and cross country skiing in our woods and fields.
Location, location, location. Tons to do. Good restaurants, museums, recreation, shopping, antiquing, summer theatres, tourist sites. Wonderful privacy at an uniquely charming house and gorgeous rural property. Good amenities and well-kept house and landscape that features lovely gardens as well as a spectacular views of nearby ski mts. We have WIRELESS, DSL as well as satellite TV. It's a perfect place to kick back and relax, or shop, go antiqueing, or to the theater, good restaurants and museums. Several popular tourist sites are within easy driving distance. Sports, such as swimming, hiking, tennis, golf, canoeing and horseback riding are available nearby. Finding a property with such a combination of warmth, charm and beauty is rare. Our father was smitten by the property's mountain views in 1934, and we-- his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren-- have taken pleasure for 24 years now in sharing our love of the property with our renters. ALL 3 MAJOR SKI AREAS--Magic, Stratton & Bromley-- CAN BE SEEN FROM OUR WOODLOT to the west of house, and it has nice trails for walking or cross country skiing.. The whole face of Magic Mt is the lovely view from our front yard and picnic area.
We had the opportunity to stay at the Farmhouse at the beginning of
October. We were so thrilled upon our arrival. The area was beautiful
and the house was everything the reviews said it was. Warm, pleasant and
comfortable. There is much to do and see, especially in the fall, and the
views from the house were spectacular. Kathryn was such a pleasure to work
with and we would love to stay there again. Just wish it wasn't so long a
trip for us. We'd be staying a LOT more often. Highly recommended! 5

Our family spent 10 days in July in this lovely spot. What a wonderful stay. The house sits on 60+ acres of fields overlooking the mountains, with glorious sunsets and sunrises. The flowers and garden were beautifully kept and in full bloom while we were there. There is a grill and lawn furniture, easy to curl up with a book and listen to the crickets for hours. The house itself is completely charming. It is a very old farmhouse, with lovely proportions and all of the original charm. The bedrooms all have multiple windows, and a good breeze at night. The bathrooms and kitchen are simple and functional, and the kitchen very well stocked. We had no trouble finding everything we needed to cook.
There is a ton to do in the area - hiking, swimming, adventures, etc. And lots of wonderful restaurants nearby. While the house sits right on a road, as old houses generally do, it feels very private and is very quiet. The back goes on for miles, and couldn't be more peaceful. The owners were so easy to work with and provided tons of useful information about the house and the area. While we were there in summer, we can imagine it is very well set up for winter ski weekends, with lots of room for gear in the garage, and a short trip to multiple mountains. We very much hope to be back soon!
Lucky with the weather we were able to appreciate how lovely this property really is. Days spent sitting out on the lawns not thinking we needed to visit anywhere else in the area. Evenings were enjoyed by the fireplace in the unexpectedly elegant living room.

This is a great place to stay. The setting is idyllic; you can sit out in the garden in the back and stare at the rolling hills and mountains. The interior is full of tastefully chosen furniture. You are 2 minutes from town - where you can get whatever you need. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
we loved staying here! the house itself is full of character, and you get a real feel for the family who has owned it for a long time. gorgeous old maples and shady lawn for lounging, picnics, and games. great books and grand piano. good swimming lakes close by!
This is a delightful, old, authentic, well-equipped, clean place...but mostly, it is so beautiful, that I challenge anyone to sit under the crab apple tree in the Adirondack chair, with a glass of wine at sunset, overlooking the wildflowers in the meadow and the distant "green mountain," and not have your soul restored! You can easily imagine a family in the 1940's and 50's, sitting by the stone fire place on a cold night, playing the piano, reading and just being together. Yes, it is also very quirky, the old doors sometimes stick, the old hardwood floors slant, so don't go there is you want more of the same. But, if you and your family want to travel back to a simpler time while enjoying all the activities offered by the great surrounding natural areas and towns, this place is for you.
I've been going to Vermont for about 40 years and started taking my children there about 10 years ago. We've stayed in private homes, B&Bs, and motels but this year we rented the Humphrey farmhouse. It was filled with charm, and history since it was an actual working farm at one point. The house was immaculately clean and the property was meticulously kept. The view of the mountains from the property was breathtaking! It's conveniently located and easy to find. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and there were no unpleasant surprises which can happen when renting a private home. The home was comfortable and kid friendly. We loved every minute of our stay there. My kids are begging to go back. It was truly a wonderful experience. We look forward to returning in the future.
We are very near Stratton, Bromley, Magic Mountain and Okemo downhill ski areas and several cross country ski areas. For summer and fall vacationers, many sports are nearby: hiking the Appalachian Trail, swimming and and canoeing at Lowell Lake and Hapgood Pond, fishing the Battenkill in Manchester or Arlington, golf and tennis in Londonderry and Manchester, horseback riding locally. The Equinox resort spa, excellent North Shire book store, So. Vt. Art Center, Hildene mansion (Abe Lincoln's son Robert's home), discount shopping outlet center, many restaurants and a movie house are in Manchester. Antique stores abound in the whole area, but I like the ones in Chester, 15 miles east of Londonderry. Weston, just north of Londonderry, deserves a whole day's expedition, as it features the famous Vermont Country Store, the wonderful Weston Playhouse summer theater and concert venue, the Weston Priory, Farrar Mansur house, and a couple of 4-star restaurants. Besides choosing toys and games at the Vt. Country store, children will especially enjoy the above-mentioned swimming and picnicking spots, Lowell Lake and Hapgood, not to mention the animals at Taylor Farm just west of Londonderry. This farm is also a great place to buy maple syrup and artisanal cheeses, of which VT has many. Children can be easily entertained and play safely on the large lawns surrounding our farmhouse, but they should not venture into our fields without wearing insect repellent.. The whole family will love Londonderry's Saturday morning farmers' market, which features produce and many other products made by local farmers and other artisans.
Other Activities in the area: sightseeing all around (our house has many flyers and guides to help plan your trips). The world-famous Marlboro Music Festival is an hour's drive to the south. President Calvin Coolidge's house is an hour to the north, near a big swimming lake, and the well-known, lovely town of Woodstock and natural wonder, Queechee Gorge, are just a bit further north. There is another good summer theater in Dorset. There is wonderful leaf-peeping in the fall, culminating in early to mid- October.
NB: we rent by week in summer and fall, but only by the WHOLE SKI SEASON. Skiers can avail themselves of four different ski areas nearby, but the favorite seems to be Stratton or Bromley mountains. We have travel guides and flyers galore in the house for summer and fall renters (winter too), and they're frequently updated. For more detailed information on several popular spots, explore the" gogobot" site on our listing. There I have described several highlights of the immediate area, including some of our favorite places to visit, sports and shopping locations, and restaurants.
If you're vacationing, I recommend spending a day in Manchester, another in Weston. People enjoy Grafton and Chester too. Of course, some people just enjoy staying home and enjoying our house, lawns, gardens and wonderful views. Our skiers just enjoyed their sixth winter in a row (2015-16) because they love the house so much. We also have summer returnees and a guest book full of 5 star reviews. I was born in the house, so I'm prejudiced, but local real estate agents have told us that our home is one of the most beautifully sited in all southern VT. You're sure to find peace and quiet in a charming house on a beautiful farm, with many books, art, antiques and a grand piano. OR you can choose to participate in many locally available sports and explore the area, which is loaded with many fun things to do and see. Plus great places to eat. CANCELLATION POLICY: No return of payment if less than 30 days notice before planned occupancy. We will "CONSIDER" partial repayment on a sliding scale if notice is given 30 to 60 days before planned occupancy. Full repayment., except any credit card usage fee or homeaway site service fee, can be expected if we receive at least 60 days notice before planned occupancy.
