We are a young family that loves all Old Saybrook has to offer! We fell in love with this charming beach cottage which reminded us of a fun trip to Charleston, SC. The double porches are so unique and relaxing! We love old homes and wanted to keep the charm intact while infusing some modern touches to the space. We hope you love The Mayflower Cottage as much as we do!

What makes this Cottage unique
We are dog & baby friendly! Our own cockapoo, Charlie, loves running around the fenced in yard or laying on the porch in the shade. We leave a sporty stroller with toddler stand in the shed for walks around the neighborhood,! We stash all kinds of games in the built-in in the dining room for fun family game nights - and 4 beach cruiser bikes are in the shed for use around the town!

I wasn’t happy
The pictures were deceptive. It made the driveway and rooms look a lot larger than they were. It said it was stocked and didn’t even have half of what we’re use to. I was told we could park cars next store and the lady said they keep telling people this and it’s her property. Ripped screen, stained pillows and coaches. Steep stairs, my small dog fell down them. Over priced. I have stayed waterfront for this price. I had to settle because of my booking so late in the season. I am not happy with this service either!
Great location for a cozy beach cottage
Short walk to the beach and a fenced yard, and dog-friendly owners. Communication was quick with the owners. This is definitely not a luxurious property but is probably typical for a seasonal beach cottage. It’s our second year renting this property. There’s an outdoor line to hang up your towels and bathing suits and plenty of things in the shed (games, chairs, bikes). The next door neighbor breeds small dogs and they do bark at all hours, just as an FYI. We had an overall nice stay and my 4 year old keeps asking about “the beach house”.

On second. So it meant a precarious climb. Douwstairs a couple times a night for two 80 year ladies. So we asked. For a refund,,and as yet have not received it,although the jHome away called the owners and urged the owners to do so
Firstly, I would like to say that my wife and I respect the privacy of all perspective renters and don’t inquire about the age or physical limitations that our renters may have. The renter requested to rent our property on May 7th, 2019 for the week of July 20th through July 27th. The only question she asked was if we provided linens and towels (which we do not) and responded that she was excited to stay at our dog friendly cottage. I would have thought that if the location of the bathroom relative to the bedrooms were of the highest importance, that she would have made sure to ask that prior to booking. She is well within her right to have a preference on the layout of the property, however not doing the proper due diligence prior to arrival falls at the feet of the renter and not the rental owner. I believe that our photos adequately show that the bathroom is on the first floor and the bedrooms are on the second floor. The renter then arrived at the property on July 20th and promptly left upon finding that the location of the bathroom was not to her liking. As per the vrbo rental agreement, we are not required to return any of her money since she did not cancel prior to checking in. Vrbo explained to me that I was under no obligation to provide her a refund so her statement that vrbo encouraged me to do so is inaccurate. After careful consideration we did provide the renter a partial refund and she cashed the check on August 12th. The only reason the check did not go out sooner was because my family and I were on a vacation of our own and were unable to mail a check until our return. The statement that she has yet to receive a refund is a bit unfair since at this point she has, and was pleased with the outcome. We have owned this property for 3 summers and have had the pleasure to rent to over 20 families that have had awesome experiences. It is a great joy for us to be able to share a little piece of our life with you all and look forward to continuing to do so. We take great pride in our property and believe the quality speaks for itself. We encourage all interested parties to contact us with any and all questions as you look for a place to spend quality time with your family. We wish the renter nothing but the best going forward and hope that she can learn from this experience and ask the necessary questions ahead of time.

Love the beach
The place is real homey and cozy could use ac tho being it’s real hot down there in July but we love it down there and enjoyed it this was our second year renting and would rent again
Clean, convenient cottage and responsive owners
Despite its age the mayflower cottage was clean, the owners responded quickly to a small plumbing issue, and the big yard and short walk to the beach all make it an excellent get away.
Great family cottage. Had a fun time. Fenced in yard was perfect for our lab to hang around and play. Kitchen had adequate items in it to make our meals. We have been coming to the CT shoreline for years and this was a great place to stay.
