Surfside Beach House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11)

Welcome to our beachfront home, the Bluewater Star. Our 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home sits in the dunes on a half-acre lot only footsteps away from the beach. Decks surround three sides of the house and each bedroom opens up to a deck, giving everyone lots of elbow room and plenty of ocean views. A private walkway leads you from the back deck straight over the dunes to the beach.

The kitchen, bar and living room is the focal point of our home. A soaring ceiling and two-story wall of windows gives you views of the ocean from anywhere in the house.

The owner of the house is a restaurant manager who loves to cook and he knows that to entertain properly one must have a great kitchen. Restaurant quality cookware, bar ware, utensils and beautiful platters, bowls and tableware make meal preparation and entertaining wonderfully easy and best of all fun.

Two of the four bedrooms are masters, each with a king bed, private bathroom and crib. One of the masters is on the main floor and the other master (along with the other two bedrooms) are upstairs. The third bedroom has 2 queen beds and the fourth bedroom has two sets of bunkbeds. The bottom bunk on one side is a double. These last two bedrooms share share a bathroom. Another half bath is located on the main floor next to to the laundry room.

Across the street is a pier for crabbing, and fishing is everywhere. You can fish in the surf, in the bay, off a pier or deep sea with a charter boat. If you want someone else to catch your fish, just run over to the nearby seafood market for the catch of the day. If you don't feel like cooking, there are several wonderful one-of-a kind restaurants nearby.

Galveston, with its historic homes and local entertainment, is an easy and scenic 1/2-hour drive up the coast.

Even though summer is the most popular time of the year, the off season is a great time of year to come to the beach too. Beaches are empty, lodging is less expensive and days are typically sunny and warm enough that you can still dip your toes in the ocean. Nights may have a bit of chill in the air which is fun for bonfires on the beach. December is the time for family get-togethers and holiday celebrations and we like to celebrate too with a Christmas tree and festive holiday touches.

January and February are really the only months that are cold but even so, it's cozy inside where you can enjoy the view of the ocean from the comfort of the sofa next to a real fireplace. Relax and unwind with a good book and retreat from the world. Or bundle up and take a solitary walk on the beach where the only sounds are the waves and seagulls. Take a jog, explore the beach and work up an appetite so that when you get back you'll be ready to browse our cookbooks and teach yourself how to make hearty dishes like cioppino, paella, stews, chilis and chowders. Recipes that take more time and patience than you usually have provide a very pleasant way to reconnect with family and friends.

Weekly rentals are 7 nights and are available year round. During the summer we only offer full week stays that go from Friday to Friday but off-season, we offer shorter stays with 3 nights being the minimum. Holidays are only offered for a full weeks stay and there is an extra charge for those stays. Prices on this site are strictly for family rental.

Weekend stays are from Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday. Check in is at 4 pm and checkout is 11 am. These times are sometimes flexible, depending on whether the house is rented before and after you. During peak season, weekend rentals will only be available as last minute bookings.

Well-behaved, short-haired dogs 40-lbs and under are accepted conditionally with prior approval and payment of $125 non-refundable fee per pet, two pets max. No puppies under a year of age please.

About Barbara Haney

In 2006, my husband and I were nearing completion of construction on our beach home when we discovered that our beautiful baby boy, by then almost two, was autistic. Our savings and extra income intended for the beach house mortgage vaporized as we began intensive therapies for our little one. We had decided to put the house up for sale when we stumbled across the vrbo website and an idea was born. What if we could open up our home to other families who enjoy the beach as much as we do? So, overnight my husband and I became managers of our beachhome-turned-resort rental property. And what a fantastic experience getting to know so many really terrific families. We've really enjoyed having the privilege to provide a place for other families to create their own memories while allowing us to create our own beach memories too.

Bobby, now 12, is doing great. All these years of therapy have given us a child who can interact and talk and he can now tell us that his favorite place on this earth is our beach house. We give a heartfelt thanks to all the families who have stayed at our home and extend a warm Texas hello to all the families we have yet to meet. Cheers! Why Barbara Haney chose Texas Gulf Coast

Going to Surfside is like stepping back in time. There's only one road into town and one road out and not a single skyscraper or hotel chain. Restaurants are family owned and convenience stores close down in the off season.

And it's been that way since I was a child coming here with my parents who would rent a beach house in Surfside for one fun-filled fantastic week every summer. Family from out of town would join us and we'd spend our days fishing, crabbing, swimming and eating delicious things. It instilled a life-long desire to carry on the tradition with my children. When we go down to the house, we invite all our loved ones to join us. Our caravan of cars pulls into the driveway and everyone scatters in different directions - little ones with their mamas scoot off to the beach with shovels and pails, the older kids go crabbing or swimming, dads go fishing and those who just want to relax head off to the deck with a book for a little relaxation. Hours later everyone congregates around the dinner table to tackle platters of fresh fried fish, steamed Gulf Coast crabs and chilled shrimp. Evenings are spent on the deck, listening to the surf and watching the night sky for shooting stars while fire flies blink in the dunes and the moonlight reflects off the water. At some point before bed, we'll rouse ourselves and head down to the beach, lanterns in hand, to build a bonfire in the dark. The kids love to toast marshmallows for sandy smores and once they've had their fill, we all head back to the house exhausted and happy and ready to do it all again the next day.

What makes this house unique

We understand that when you rent a beach house you are planning on spending most of your time either enjoying the waves or enjoying the home and we have done everything we can to make this the most comfortable and well stocked beach house you have ever been in bar none. A comment I hear frequently from my guests is that they are so happy to see such a wonderfully stocked kitchen. My husband and I are life-long foodies and our background is the hospitality industry. We met working at a restaurant in college, and we love to cook. The last thing we want to do when we're getting ready to come to the beach house is pack every single thing we need to cook a good meal, so it's imperative that our kitchen have everything that we might need. We think that you will like this too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your home was a wonderful place to "come in from the cold" both physically and mentally. The decorating was pleasant and comfortable. The view is so inspiring and calming. While not made by you, the design of your windows framed the view perfectly. The thoughtful and very considerate amenities are the best we have found in numerous other rentals.

We look forward to future stays. It was a pleasure to stay in your home and Taylor's 16th birthday will be a most wonderful memory. - Mark and Debbie Krall

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We came to Surfside for our daughter's wedding, not knowing what to expect from a home in this community. We were greatly surprised to see that we could stay in a home that was well furnished, comfortable, and on a great location on the beach, and even more surprised (pleasantly) to have owners who really care about their guests! In particular, the long boardwalk and private gazebo, along with all of the porch space, really makes morning coffee and evening wine, even more special.

Thank you, Barbara, for allowing us to stay in your home and for making our special week even more enjoyable!

Spacious, well appointed, fantastic views, convenient walkways

  • 5 of 5

My family of ten had a wonderful three day weekend at Bluewater Star. All the appliances worked, clean refrig and freezer, abundant cooking "stuff", dishes and silverware. The air conditioners worked well as did the televisions. There was adequate seating for meals. The beds were comfortable. If you have very small children, there will be adequate sleeping for them as well. We had some older teenagers, so we took some air mattresses for them, because they were too big for the bunk beds. Looking out from the kitchen and family area, the view of the ocean was very nice. I wish that we had been there longer in order to take advantage of the spacious decks and seating. Because of the holiday weekend, the beach was packed, but we had a wonderful time, none the less. The owner provided information as I had questions. She also called me the day before to answer any last minute questions. I would recommend the Bluewater Star.

The other 5 star reviewers say it all so I won't go into detail -

everything was great - kitchen, views, boardwalk, beds,

linens, location, owner communication, sand toys, ....

absolutely nothing to complain about. Thanks!

Beautiful beachfront hideaway

  • 4 of 5

We spent a long weekend in Surfside Beach, and this house was just about ideal. There's ample room for plenty of people; we had two adult couples, a 6-year-old, a 2-year-old twins, and I'm sure we could comfortably have had a few more kids or even one more small family.

The pictures tell the story - it's bright and airy, just steps from the sand. The back porch and waterfront gazebo are a lounger's delight, down to the setup for piping music in from the living-room stereo. Plenty of outdoor space for family meals, too, which makes the charcoal grills even more attractive. The kitchen is huge enough to cook for an army and amply outfitted with both cookware and place settings. There's ample bed linen, towels, and everything else you'd expect.

If you live in a big city, the location is going to feel pretty remote. The only nearby restaurants are basic burgers-and-fries joints. There are a couple of convenience stores nearby, and small Buc-ees about 10 minutes away, but a full grocery store is at least 20-25 minutes.

The owner is a wonderful hostess. She provides excellent pre-arrival information, called a few days in advance to go over the most important items, had personally gone to the house to make sure everything was in order, and made herself easily available if we needed anything during our stay (we didn't).

It's important to set your expectations properly. This is not a show house that's owned by a company just to rent as a luxury bungalow. This is a real family's real vacation home. That means that there's a lot of really well thought-out little touches that come from living there - stocked bookshelves, strong WiFi, an entertainment system that includes gear for streaming movies, etc.

It also means that it's lived-in... the bathrooms are showing some signs of wear, some of the mattresses are getting a little old, etc. Remember, too, that this house is literally right on the water in a hot, humid climate - you're going to see some wear and tear that even the most diligent homeowner wouldn't be able to prevent. The last little criticism is something totally outside anyone's control: the water pressure in the house is pretty meager, which not only impacts showering but also means you need to leave a bit of extra time for things like filling up a bath for the kids.

There are all minor, minor issues that shouldn't dissuade anyone from choosing this property. We'd rent it again in a heartbeat and could happily have stayed a full week.

Wonderful Thanksgiving Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This was the most wonderful home to spend our Thanksgiving week! This beach house was well set up for our family of 9 and had such beautiful views of the beach and ocean. I cannot stress how comfortable we felt in the home and how well stocked the kitchen was. Barbara (owner) was so friendly and easy to work with. She made sure that we had everything we needed and was very accommodating throughout the process and never hesitated to answer any of our questions. Thank you so much, Barbara, for being so warm, friendly and taking care of us! We look forward to staying in your inviting home as soon as we can!
