fairly priced; fine for the young at heart.
We are a couple in our mid-60s. We are seasoned travelers but this was our first time using Homeaway. We are very familiar with Madrid and chose this apartment for the location. we stayed here for 5 nights with mixed feelings. on the positive side: 1. great location, near the Plaza Santa Ana on a quiet street with wonderful food shops near by and some chic small clothing stores too. 2. the apartment looks as photographed and it seems they have done a good design job for the small space. there is plenty of light, even though it comes from just one window. plenty of hot water, mirrors, electrical outlets, air conditioning. good shower with easy to use water temperature adjustment handles. good bed
on the less positive side: 1. the apartment’s owner was just not reliable. when we arrived in front of the apartment, he told us by phone/text that he’d be 20 minutes. about 45 minutes later he showed up, asked it we had waiting long (and we said yes) and didn’t bother to apologize. He very quickly told us about the apartment and the various utilities but was in a hurry to get somewhere else. he also didn’t show other times when he said he would, and although there seems to have been some family issues he had to deal with then, he never contacted us about the delay nor apologized. 2. the appliances were pretty basic and mostly inadequate. one induction burner, only one, and no instructions. we were not able to use it to cook anything. the refrigerator door was broken and would not seal to stay closed so we had to put a chair wedged in front of the door to keep our perishables cold. 3. there was no top sheet on the bed and we had no idea if the comforter had been cleaned before we came or not. not a comforting thought and we requested a top sheet which never came, nor did any reassurance that we didn’t need it. Lastly, though perhaps no fault of the owner, the locks on the doors to the building and to the apartment were extremely difficult to open.
Perhaps we had higher expectations that the owner would be more concerned about our comfort . While reasonably priced, this apartment may be fine for the young at heart who are not interested in preparing meals and not frazzled by having to deal with finicky locks.
Thanks for your reply.
All I point my clients call me from the airport to move to the apartment in the same time their journey.
Many customers call me, just as they are in the apartment door, without reaction or ability to meet their arrival best, as was this case.
There are customers who think the hosts live on the same floor or building and is not, we do not live in the building and we need like me 30 minutes to move to the apartment, without any additional problem that we may arise.
For this reason it is important to make a call from the airport on arrival, or when traveling in other transportation, communicated at least 30 minutes before arrival, so avoid all unnecessary waiting.
The cost of a basic call is cheap and often even the same driver that makes the transfer lend your phone to make the call.
Great apartment in fantastic location
Great location, we were able to walk to most major tourist attractions within approximately 15mins. Small express supermarket right around the corner, also a good bakery, Brown Bear Bakery, to stop for coffee and a pastry or to pick up sandwiches for your day of exploring. Apartment was clean and had all of the necessary things for a comfortable stay, however we did not utilise the kitchen preferring to taste local cuisine. Rafael was very accommodating letting us check in early, leave our bags while the apartment was being cleaned. As we were tourists on our first visit to Madrid my only suggestion would be to have some more local info available such as: map, closest amenities, emergency numbers, suggested restaurants/bars. Overall great experience wouldn't hesitate to book here again.
"This is a well-designed and thoughtfully-supplied apartment with everything in working order and seemingly quite new. The one stove burner was ample for cooking up the fresh vegetables I obtained at nearby Mercado de Anton Martin. The loft was comfortable with the bannister and stairs professionally secured to the wall. Heavy-duty security keys ensured that our items were safe.
The apartment is ideally located for art lovers…only minutes away from the Prado, with Thyssen and Queen Sophia not much further away. In addition, it is a fast walk to the Royal Palace via Calle de las Huertas, or in another direction to Puerta del Sol and the Gran Via. Down the road are a series of tapas bars on Calle de Jesus recommended by Rick Steves and a Carrefour is just around the corner.
The owner, Raphael, was helpful and considerate. The airport taxi he arranged for us was reliable and on time."
